I’m an alumna of FIT - Fashion Design and University of Wisconsin- Textile & Apparel Design. Been working in the apparel industry for the last 14+ years. I’d recommend that anyone interested in going into fashion who may also want a more traditional university experience look at schools with an exchange agreement with FIT. I did a 4 year degree at Madison in 3 years and a 2 year degree at FIT in 1 year.
Also not to be discouraging but to be transparent- fashion is VERY very demanding. We work a lot. It’s high pressure and high stress. Just be aware going into it is all 😊 and continue to live your dreams! Best of luck 🍀

hey love! I haven't heard of any double majors at FIT, but you should definitely call admissions for an absolute answer. There are a bunch of different minors ranging from creative entrepreneurship, to languages and even sustainability! You may want to consider the Fashion Business Management major, that has a little bit of both fashion and business mixed in. I hope this helped!
You can't double major but you can take classes in other areas that aren't apart of your major curriculum as long as you have the space in your schedule, although I will say the design route is harder to take than business but is more fun in terms of what work you do, business is quite boring from what my business friends say and the quality of education is not on par with the school of art and design. You will definitely get a job though if you go the business route.
Fashion design program requires alot of time as any extra time you have you will probably put into your sewing or sketches. Some also start internships instead of dual majoring. You can also do 2yrs in fashion then apply for a business BA
I’m waiting for my results in April from FIT and I’m terrified of going there because I’ve seen videos of how people are dressed there and it’s so scary seeing everyone have such beautiful clothing and knowing how to style and then there’s me with normal jeans and a t-shirt and a pair of vans 😭. I’m also scared of how the environment is there. I went to another college for a tour and I fell in love with how you get that sort of “going away” experience and clubs and things like that and I just feel like FIT doesn’t have things like that. How has your time at FIT been?
These are all super valuable points! I think everyone’s experience is very different, but for me, I never feel out of place at FIT. i think everyone will find someone else who likes similar things to them here! But you definitely do not get that typical “college experience” like other schools have! There are pros and cons to both types of school so it really depends on what you want to do for your career, the connections you want to make AND if you are a fan of NYC or not! Thanks for giving information because I'm almost in 6th grade and i want to be a fashion designer and start my own brand..... And my father supports me but i have to work hard because for people who are like fat or overweight don't get the clothes for their size so i want to make clothes for all sizes....cloths which are classy gorgeous and fabulous but also comfortable... And makes you feel yourself confident to go out and live yourself

I just got accepted! But I also got into a prestigious school with a really big scholarship. Do you think that the education at fit is worth it, my heart is telling me to go to fit but my brain is telling me to go to the other school because it is a super good school

Really work to sell yourself in the paper! Tell fit why you stand out amongst other candidates, and what you will directly offer the school. Also mentions specifics that the school offers that will help you in your career!

The deadline is usually January 1 the year you would be a senior in HS! You will find out if you are accepted that April, and move that same year in august!

Nah definitely people don't talk to you unless you dress somewhat nice, cause there are so many homeless, even homeless people wearing Adidas track suits and jewelry. It's almost like a barrier for entry, having nice clothes vs not having them.
I’d semi agree. I dont think it’s fair to say that everyone judges off of what others have or wear, but it is fair to assume that there is an impact sometimes! I know I personally don’t judge people in that manner, but I also know that some people do. It’s unfortunate that we live in a world where these things matter. Thank you for sharing this opinion!

I have a question about the industry. Do you really need a degree to get into the fashion industry or are their other ways you or other workers recommend for people who want an name in the industry.
Hey! So if you’d like more info, DM me on Instagram and we can chat some more! But simply put, it is possible to get a job in the field without a degree, but would require a much more complex tactical process. Going to school for fashion especially in NYC, gives you the opportunity to make tons of industry connections that you are able to leverage for the job market. Especially if you want to get into design, having the connections could make or break your chances! At the same time, we do live in the age of social media and can leverage that to build a name for ourselves in the industry we’d like to work in. So it’s a toss up. I don’t believe it’s fully necessary, but you will have a wider range of opportunities if you do attend a fashion school, particularly one in a larger city like New York.

I think all colleges have their pros and cons, but Fit is definitely a one of a kind experience! What are you most scared about? Maybe I can give some experience or advice to ease your nerves💕

You can go part time, but instead of paying a flat rate tuition, you will pay per class! Under 4 classes or 12 credits is part time ❤️

Hello! I am currently enrolled in a different college for Secondary Education English, which is in a completely distinct category. However, over the years, I've become obsessed with fashion and the way that media has helped market and merchandise it, thereby creating jobs all over the world. Of course, I've been obsessed with New York City, so FIT has been on my radar. However, I am hesitant to apply because I have no prior fashion experience, such as in high school or creating clubs. I'm starting my second semester of sophomore year in college in Spring 2023, so applying has been on my mind. Because of my lack of clubs and fashion experience (other than working retail at Michael Kors for 2 years and counting), I am afraid this is simply not enough, and frankly, it does not appear to be enough. I was wondering if you had any advice on how to get involved or if I should get involved in order to write the essay. The only issue is that my college does not provide many opportunities for clubs and groups to form consecutively on campus. I'm thinking about giving up my application because every video I've seen has included the fact that they used various fashion-related clubs and curricular in high school to increase their chances of getting in. So I definitely am at a crossroad here!
A few things I’d like to address here! First, I think there is absolutely zero harm in applying. You might as well try!! With that being said, it’s going to require some extra work. Pre college programs may be a great option for resume building. I think it also depends on whether you’re looking to apply for design or business. If you are applying for business, you should have zero issue with getting in, so long as your grades are good and you write a powerful essay. Maybe even focusing on the sudden inspiration for career switch would be a great arc, and how you can use what you’ve already learned, and apply it to your major at FIT. I think defining your career goals very clearly would be of benefit. Sometimes extra curricular activities are not as important as we may think! I think you’d have a shot, so long as you tell a great story. Now, design would be a completely different story. You’d need an extensive portfolio, which may not be something you’ve got at the moment. Let me know which major you are thinking!

Hey! Transferring is overall easy, Though I already went to a different SUNY school so I’m not sure how much of a role that played! I made a video on how I got accepted, so that may be helpful for you to watch🦋💕 it’s up to you in regards to doing a 2 or 4 year program, but you can always do the associates and once you are done, you can asses and decide if you want to continue with your bachelors!

It can get very repetitive and wasn’t my personal favorite. I’m not into marketing whatsoever so the content was incredibly boring. If ad and marketing is your thing though, it’s thorough and informative!

It’s amazing that you are looking to follow your dream of doing fashion design! It’s totally not weird to start an AAS at 21! I know so many people who just began college at 23/24 so you won’t be alone ❤️

Is the part time course the same as the full time course at fit?
Part time means you are taking under 12 credits and full time is 12+! Most financial aid will only cover you if you are full time.
Hi do you think parsons or Pratt is better than FIT ?
It all depends on what you’re looking for specifically and what you want to spend on college! There are pros and cons to all of these options:)

Fit requires general education courses so definitely math, English and science!

To be fully honest, I don’t know many people in the major and I don’t know too much about it! It’s pretty small, but I know it’s a close knit bunch and you make some really great connections professionally as well❤️

You can work in many different areas such as the gym, library, tutoring center, etc!
Is FIT a credible school, like would i be able to get a degree or only a certificate, im a fine arts student at Booker T washington High school for visual and preforming arts and i want to go to this school so bad
It is an accredited SUNY university, and it is the number one fashion school in the world!! So yea, very credible💗

It’s totally okay if you have to work part time! Most of the students do, I do as well! Whenever you feel ready for college, that’s when you should apply. Typically, if you are a senior right now, the deadline is February 1 for the fall semester. So if you are still in school, yes you should be applying now! Sounds so convenient to go to FIT for commercial photography. A school directly in nyc as a photographer really is a money maker. However I have no interest in fashion but it's what makes a lot of money. Although I don't have a lot of experience with photographing people. Is a bachelor's for photography at FIT better suitable or is a school like Purchase College better.
I’d look at SVA! They have an incredible photo program that is so well rounded. That is where my boyfriend goes for photography and he has grown incredibly as an artist in his first year and a half. Very impressed with what he’s accomplished!

Yes, if you already have a college degree you can go into the post bacc non degree or certificate classes. You pay per class 12 credits is roughly 8k a year

There are just some additional steps for international students, but the school is very inclusive and welcomes students from all over the world 🌟

I want to apply interior design there in 2023 🙏 but I'm not sure if i can able to survive the financial expenses for 3 years in NYC cus my savings is $80,000 not really sure if this is enough
I will say, that is more than most people save! Living on campus will save you money in terms of lifestyle needs such as furniture, groceries etc. so maybe you could consider that!❤️

If you didn't go to college before. You get in through the proper channels and are able to get financial aid then the school tuition will be free. The 80k to live in NYC and buy school supplies will be just enough. Rent a room under 1200 in manhatten under 1000 outside manhatten. Use the metro you don't need a car. I am considering to go to FIT for my bachelors degree after community college. Im still in high school as of now but going to my first orientation for the first time which i'm super exited about this year! I also would like to know if it was easier to make friends during the orientation? were there a-lot of parents around as well? but anyways i just wanted to see how the orientation was like and consider making some friends as I want to major into Fashion Photography. Congrats on the decision to apply!! I made so many friends at orientation and I actually had a great time. It forces you out of your comfort zone and I think that’s great! There weren’t any parents at FITs orientation week💗💗💗

before this video I was very insecure about Fashion University, the people, the money, sociability… but Im still thinking where to study, Im between FIT and ESMOD, in France. I just wish to know from you how do you feel is FIT for non-american students, if they fit-in easily, if the other students are opened to them, in average how many students they are… cuz in europe the majority of the students are from abroad and this creates a multicultural environment that usually embrace everybody
If you’re European especially if you are from France im sure you would do great in a fashion school
FIT is extremely diverse and there are ton’s of international students! Especially in NYC, the culture here in general is extremely diverse. Let us know what you decide!💗

Sometimes yes and sometimes they go for New York fashion week! There are a lot of attendance and volunteer opportunities for Nyfw✨💗
Hello, I recently got a offer from FIT. But, I've still haven't finish my grade 12 yet and FIT didn't really give me an information on what GPA I should have for my remaining high school grades. do they not have something like a conditional offer? After they decide to accept me, that's the end? even if I get bad grades for the remaining courses I have left for grade 12, I am still accepted?

@@Maadthreads Hey! thanks for the answer but actually on my offer letter, it had some conditions I needed to meet. One of them was my Final transcript submission because I dint graduate high school yet. But, my problem was that on the offer letter, there weren't any specific GPA requirement I had to maintain for the rest of my grade 12 high school subjects. Do you know anything about this conditions regarding how much GPA I should maintain and would my admission be rescinded if my GPA gets lower?

Is studying fashion design much more expensive ? Do you have to buy fabric and stuffs regularly?
the initial costs are the same, tuition, room and board, etc! Im not in fashion design so I am not sure of supply costs, but I do often see the students purchasing supplies! So my guess is yes, you may have more costs, im just not sure how much!❤️

@@sullivandraper so i actually just submitted the SUNY application to FIT yesterday! my current school is still doing online since it's overseas, so i just went ahead and applied cos i don't know how much more i can take lol. the decision also came a lot easier to me since i'm applying to a couple other nyc art schools along with this one, so i figured i'd have some backups in case i'm rejected from toy design haha

i’m in culinary school but i love fashion sm kinda screaming at my life choices sometimes LMAOO, cooking classes are 3 times a week 3-4 hours long but i’m literally actively in a kitchen so a lot less boring
Culinary school sounds so fun!!! The fashion majors are more interesting than the business major because you are actually doing stuff hands-on all the time!

I'm currently taking up my 2nd year of Fashion Design and Merchandising here in the Philippines and I have been thinking of transferring in FIT but I'm still new with the fashion industry since I was only in my senior year of highschool when I realized my love for fashion which made me take up Fashion Design in college.
