Brilliant intro with the choir entrance! This psalm is a Song of the Ascents. It was likely sung either by pilgrims ascending into Jerusalem or as part of an entrance liturgy into the Jerusalem temple. The choir put the text into context by processing to it. Again, It was brilliant!
This is,one of the best I have ever heard. The English boys choir sang this at Prince Willan of Englands wedding. This Baltimore group is just as exellent. Not because I am a,Marylander🙂
Fantastic performance. I loved that space. When I lived in Baltimore I attended mostly at Old. St. Paul’s, a true Baltimore gem. This is a fantastic choir
@@blakeclark14 OMG small world ! I know Jeremy and turned pages for him a few times. He was organist at Old St. Paul's at one time a few years ago! Love his playing!
Top high end choirs do this many times. The Aolians from Oakwood University in Huntsville Alabama.USA. I think when you are amongst the best of the best you can walk in the building while singing and it still comes out perfect😂.I walked in 48 years ago with the youth choir singing a hymn entitled.Thy Holy Sabbath Lord Thy people Hail With Joy❤❤🙏🙏🙂
@@leonietaylor7054 You are kind! You will be able to hear it sung properly for the Queen in 2022 as it is her platignum jubilee.. a 70 years as monarch of 14 or so countries. You will get to hear the rarely sung section with the 'Vivat Regina Elizabeta' (which should only be sung if she, Elizabeta, is there). Normally it is not a processional for the Queen (Handel's Zadok the Priest is our Queen's processional) but you can hear 'I Was Glad' as a processionl for royal brides like Kate Middleton (as she was going up the aisle: but by the return trip down the aisle she was HRH the Duchess of Cambridge). Royal music is fun and sometimes transformative (literally in Kate's case). Ironic (but lovely) that americans sing it all so well.
Unfortunately, American choirs seem to always have the sopranos singing in operatic style with heavy vibrato. This looses the effect of grand British choral music that is written for choirs that have soprano lines sung as straight notes- usually boys. Much work has gone into this performance and is commendable, but would be better enhanced sans the opera voices.
The smile on the senior citizen's face is everything
I had this performed at my wedding and I just want to say this is an absolutely superb performance!! Welldone to all involved. x
With an orchestra or solo organ? Either is great, but the orchestra just adds so much to it

Superb conducting, a great choir, and a cracking organ. Wow!!
Kudos to the organist who without being intimidated accompnied and led this wonderful choir as one man orchestra. What a performance!
Director organist and choiresters thank you for your ministry of music 🎶
Excellent job. Very uplifting. Do it again!
And this year we got to hear it in an altogether different context 😊.
outstanding
What a stunning performance! The choir sounds absolutely amazing. Oh, and the organist is totally on top of their game!
You said it!
Organist was great, but opera style singing vibrato in choirs puts me right off.

Really? How about the versions done in the UK? For royal events?
@@mattnbin Yes I did say the one played at William and Kate's Wedding in England. Its the same choirs for Royal events I think
@@mattnbin The UK version is similar but with vivats only when Her Majesty is present
@@mattnbin the version at the coronation this past weekend made me weep. So holy and beautiful and majestic. Plus it had the vivats!
Joyous! Truly Outstanding!

Amazing performance!
Absolutely Beautiful !!!
Excellent performance! Well done! Blessings to you from Mt Gambier Choral Society in South Australia. We are learning this awesome piece now.
Beautiful! My favourite.🙂
A wonderful performance!
Fabulous!!
Who was the organist ?
Jeremy Filsell, who is now the Director of Music at St Thomas 5th Ave NYC!

How odd to have the chorus members walking in during the fanfare and opening lines. Very well sung despite this oddity
When/why glad? When they said unto me "we will go into the house of the Lord". So they walked in... (an engagingly literal choir who sing engagingly)

No opera voices here. 😂
Wonderful performance but the entrance was distracting and overly theatrical. The only person who can walk in is Kate Middleton and her dad!!
well clearly the king and queen also walked in
