Taylor was our Annual Guest Preacher 1996 through 2006 at the West Hunter Street Baptist Church to my transition as Church Planter of the Trinity Baptist Church of Metro Atlanta now in Decatur GA. I know of no greater moment in human history when Heaven and Earth came together in Dr. Taylor preaching for us and others.
This great man was my friend. I had the privilege of sitting with him many times, in informal settings. What a mind! What a man! He was humble, kind, folksy and a delightful human being.
I sat on the front pew on the right-side of the pulpit in the Hartford Memorial Baptist Church in Detroit, Mi, in1992 with the rest of the clergy staff when this sermon was preached. Pastor Dr. Charles G. Adams (P..A) can be heard shouting "Yes Sir." Dr, Cornel West was there. - Rev. Taylor makes a reference to him ("Don't tell your people in Princton this Professor.") I served on the Staff as The Assistant To The Pastor For General Ministry, which means I did what the more senior clergy already had training in, and in which I needed training. I have Pastored two churches since, and I have carred this sermon in my heart and in my mind since I heard it. It was one of the few times that I heard Dr. Taylor in person. What I think was the most iconic statement in this sermon was edited out, for reasons that are unknown to me, but I wish it had been left in.
