Of course this song gets depressing. It's a multi year war with billions of casualties. Every mission near the end is a practically a suicide mission and the final missions straight up says every surviving human has to join the edf's final battle because this is a last ditch effort. EDF is a b monster movie, but don't forget everything sucks in the world of edf.

Even were they to rebuild humanity, it would be made in the image of edf. For all intents and purposes both sides lost horribly and are very unlikely to ever rebuild let alone reclaim their lost glory.

Its akin to the first game where humanity just gets sweeped. 4.1 the aliens are more concerned about the actual planet than whats living on it. In the short term they barely killed anything since they were planning to kill humanity in one big attack with the world eater.
I love 5. but the 4.1 theme just hits harder for me. I like 5 more as a game, I think it ramps it's difficulty a lot smarter and introduces enemies in a much more effective way than 4.1. but I'll always remember that chant until I'm in my deathbed.
I'll be honest, adding a BGM to it makes it much better. In-game with soldiers singing without it they sound tone-deaf and confused. Not as good as the EDF 4 song, but the BGM does fix it.
But also bringing out the legendary heroes comeback, a boost of morale that this hero continue to strike on despite having the third war like it was the first

Me and 2 of my friends recently got into edf 5, never having played edf before at all or even hearing about it. We barely fought godzilla yesterday lol. Is the 2nd half of the song from later in the game?
Considering the primers pace at killing humans its not hard to see why it starts in 2020 and by the time the war ends in 2022 the global human population is around 10% (if not less) of what it was at the start
in my opinion edf 5 was better then edf 4.1 in every way from graphics, new gore textures and much better Ai pathfinding and movement but edf 4 had the much superior sound track and songs
though all are inferior to insect Armageddon, at least in that the NPC could rez you twice if i remember right, that's literally my only issue with the new games
