Thanks for this. Bernstein has a down-to-earth quality. HIs testimony lucidly adds perspective to events of the time as well as contemporary events. That point he makes about Goldwater convincing Nixon to resign, not because it was the right thing to do, but because he would be convicted, was because REPUBLICANS understood the crime he had committed. They stood up, and that protected their moral authority. When Republicans failed to stand up to Trump, that destroyed their moral authority

Fascinating to hear Mr. Bernstein's recollections. It's validating to hear his take on the movie. They both opened Pandora's box and exposed a totally unexpected conspiracy of huge proportions.

Imagine if the current Congress would have had the guts to do the right thing in 2022. Imagine a Howard Baker today. Mitch McConnell & McArthy will never hold a candle to those guys.

Of course, thank you for watching! If you found this conversation engaging, we highly recommend our interview with Bob Woodward, Bernstein's fellow Watergate reporter. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/uzBVVWbTadk/w-d-xo.html

54:18 "A compulsive disorder." You could plausibly call political ambition, at this go-getting executive level, a compulsive disorder. The time & energy & expense & machinations for that level of careerism is no different than the expenditure of obsessives orjunkies. You could take this even further & just as plausibly: WINNING in today's society requires a personality disorder to achieve. I'm not justifying it, quite the opposite.
Ppl aren't comfortable thinking outside the box, even Carl Bernstein, in case they can't get back in once they see its restricted dimensions.
