MR BEAT!!!! Holy crap, i love your videos man i have the bell on and everything! Thank you so much for subscribing! What do you think of a video explaining the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio? Its my hometown haha
Not American, but I also always wondered why there are 2 Dakotas. Also, I like how you used a combination of country balls, maps and historical photographs to picture things. Its very visually engaging. Great video for such a small channel!
You don't mention the political maneuvering that went into the formation of two Dakotas. At the beginning of 1888, with Democrat Grover Cleveland in the Oval Office, there were four states vying for statehood: Montana, New Mexico, Dakota, and Washington. The first two were expected to favor the Democratic party and the latter two the Republican party, so this seemed like a reasonable compromise for both parties. However, the Republicans won control of both the House and Senate in the 1888 elections, giving them the bargaining advantage. The Democrats were allowed Montana, but the Republicans offset this by permitting the Dakota territory to split into two states, while New Mexico had to wait until 1912 before becoming a state. This advantage has stayed with the Republicans to this day, with the lightly populated Dakota region getting four senators while large states like New York and California get only two each.
Thank you! I’m hoping in due time my channel gets more traction. It already would be bigger if I just dedicated more time to it. I appreciate that though, thank you!
They should be one Dakota. This would benefit our country. Relative to their population, they are allowed way too much representative power and electoral power in national elections.
Thank you so much! I greatly appreciate comments like this, its what keeps me motivated to make more videos. Hope you found more videos you like on my channel!
Very informative video. Only issue for me as a person whose mother tongue is not English is that you talk very fast. How can you have so much energy? ;-) Thanks!!
I'd love to explain WV and how it came to be, its very interesting! Unfortunately the carolinas is more of a 'this colony is too big!' situation but I'll still keep it in mind :)
I'd love to, its actually so interesting since WV is just a byproduct of differing ideals during the civil war. Also West Virginia is a gorgeous place! Anyone whose been there would agree :)
Its unlikely that they’re ever gonna join together into one state, even though on paper it makes sense. We’re probably just gonna end up with 51 states
North Dakota in my opinion is still very boring hardly anything amusing to do here. Lots of little settlements all over North Dakota have just been springing up like weeds over the years. Sometimes it feels like it becomes more frequent as of late but that also possibly has something to do with me hearing about little towns or villages or settlements I’ve never even heard of before.
Just leave us alone separated we're better off on our own North Dakota has oil and South Dakota has Mount Rushmore as a North Dakota in I find it kind of mean the other people think that they should merge the two we're very different even though we have the same name
A simple name change would fix your problem. Why not merge Montana and Wyoming if so worried about pop. per capita. Considering most americans don't even know ND exists or is even a part of the USA (speaking as a lifelong resident of ND, 34 yrs) I'd rather see ND secede to Canada, nobody would notice or care
We need to bring back the Megakota mega-merger convo. Companies merge all the time, so why not do the same in states where it makes sense (I thought Republicans wanted to run the country like a corporation anyway)? “Megakota” would still be less populous than Idaho, and in the 21st century we are much more culturally and physically connected by roads and comms than we were back in the 1800s, so I don’t really see any rational argument against this. There’s legit no reason why some of these Midwestern states can continue to be overrepresented in congress and overfunded by federal taxpayers other than to disenfranchise millions of American voters living in more populous areas while enabling a shrinking political party to amass more power than they objectively deserve. #TheElectoralCollegeIsRacist
Hello fellow geography dork. You are doing great work!
MR BEAT!!!! Holy crap, i love your videos man i have the bell on and everything! Thank you so much for subscribing! What do you think of a video explaining the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio? Its my hometown haha
@Nash Kameron yep Don’t give a shit
The Dakotas are like twin brothers, always love each other but always make fun of each other too. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
I just moved to North Dakota last year (from suburban CLE of all places) it’s wide open and there are more cows than people in some places.
Not American, but I also always wondered why there are 2 Dakotas. Also, I like how you used a combination of country balls, maps and historical photographs to picture things. Its very visually engaging. Great video for such a small channel!
Late reply but thanks! I need to get back into this 😢 i drew the countryballs myself!
Thank you! I've always loved geography and always wondered about why 2 Dakotas. Quite satisfying explanation!
well done I hope you continue and make more small docs. Choosing content like this awesome these odd questions of history is a great idea.

Good deal
I don't usually subscribe to things but that was really informative on an interesting topic, and not enough views.
Thank you! I’m hoping in due time my channel gets more traction. It already would be bigger if I just dedicated more time to it. I appreciate that though, thank you!

no, it would only benefit DC and the federal government
@@skurinski DC can only benefit if they get to be a state too… no taxation without representation.
1:45 the railroads couldn’t go further west because the Lakota Sioux wouldn’t allow it because of the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868
I can see this channel blowing up keep up the good work

Thanks!!
I appreciate the feedback. I've actually been meaning to add subtitles to these videos, and you just gave me a great reason to finally start. Thanks!
Awesome video, bro!
Why are their two Carolinas and Virginias?
I'd love to explain WV and how it came to be, its very interesting! Unfortunately the carolinas is more of a 'this colony is too big!' situation but I'll still keep it in mind :)
2 states called CAROLINA too, and one Virginia and one WEST Virginia.
Never been to ND but SD is a really interesting state!
Awesome! Do the virginias next lol
I'd love to, its actually so interesting since WV is just a byproduct of differing ideals during the civil war. Also West Virginia is a gorgeous place! Anyone whose been there would agree :)
As a North Dakotan I have the right to say that we don't want union with the south
I don’t know why they have north and south even tho I live in nd
SIGN THE MEGADAKOTA PETITION
The Dakotas have one notable thing going for them: Dinosaurs.
How about the Carolinas and Virginia and W. Virginia?
I met twin brothers Spring South Dakota and Nevada North Dakota and they live in Texas so gahh
Kinda sucks there are two states still to this day.
I thought it was only basically cause of the civil war which more or less North vs South
Oh hell no I want my home state not to be merged with them South Dakota since it's what makes us unique
North and South Dakota are only similar when you've never been to either one!
Do the Carolina’s
Bill Maher says there should be only one Dakota!
The two states would never allow for that!
Because he's a democrat and he wants to cut the number of Republican representatives.
im suprised that the dakotas are the same size. the carolinas and the virginias are two completley different sizes.
Thats what happens when you split it right down the center!
unite both Dakotas then make Puerto Rico a state so that we will still have 50 states
Its unlikely that they’re ever gonna join together into one state, even though on paper it makes sense. We’re probably just gonna end up with 51 states
no
More!
And have of South Dakota is owned by the Lakota tribe as of the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868
It wasn't a grab. It was a sale. You should edit that.
That's not what the word "relinquished" means.
I tried!
I don't need this I need to know if and how we can merge them!?!
Suppose they'd both have to vote for it

All I know about ND is you guys have a great football team lol
You’re definitely wrong about the last part ND is the worse Dakota
Why are there two Carolinas or two Virginias in the USA
There are a lot of reasons! Maybe that could be my next video.
you haven't subscribed to pewdiepie
