Nice work as always Frank, very interesting but also ball shrinking stuff.
I'm always amazed at how the men manage to firstly access such remote areas with all the equipment required, then on a daily basis, managed the back breaking job of digging, timbering, tracking, ore removal plus trying to feed themselves. truly the men and wemen involved were made of better stuff than we with all our mod cons are today.
Keep them coming, regards Mick 😊👍👍👍

Another good video! Looks like they mined this vein by way of narrow vein Shrinkage Stope method. Heard a comment wondering how the miners got all the way up there. They always worked on a muckpile and only removed enough material from the bottom to allow them to continue upwards, always drilling and blasting and creating more muck to stand and work on. The stulls were put in for ground support or for a working/drilling platform if too much muck was removed and the back or face was too high. Access to top by way of raise or timbered raise, the timbered sets going up possibly the frame of the timbered raise they used to access the top. The timbered raise would have been surrounded by broken muck and built upwards as they advanced. Once it was mined all the way to the top and no ore left, the entire stope was mucked from the bottom. Worked in a few of these as narrow as 27".

*Frank, not trying too take away from your great video. Albeit anyone who is or has a similar passion. Don Cash passed away after finishing the 7 summits, last being Everest on his descent. Mountaineers, caving, mine exploring is no joke. IMO if I personally second guess a situation, I listen too my gut. Frank is fully aware of the ramifications of his actions and I applaud your cautious demeanor and weighing your options. Thank you for the vid it was quite a descent.

Another fantastic video Frank. When you dislodged some of those stones the kept falling for a l o n g time. I'm not good with heights and i don't think i could do that. So its nice that you can do it for us all who watch from the comfort of home. The doing it alone bit doesn't help calm your nerves too, but it does give you respect for where you are. Frank your job is much more demanding than my tech scuba diving. In water you are weightless so one can use much less energy if you know how to. I watched the seals and fish to learn how and became very fast underwater without expending more energy then needed. This also conserves air. The danger level is equal but when diving your chances of rescue are limited to your air and decompression demands. Like I said before recovering iron from the sea floor is much easier with lift bags in the water. I dove also because you could find untouched, unseen areas with little effort. Now here in Central Mexico I need to learn how to use the techniques you use to explore caves and also build up my stamina and heal from my total knee surgery but your videos keep me going. Thanks.

Great video Frank !! I really enjoyed watching your descent !! The water makes the climbing look like slippery work. Fortunately for me, my vertical shaft is plugged at about 70' so I just rappel down to the work area where I'm pulling out the old collapsed square sets and man way pieces. I will be using a winch in the next trip so this old fart doesn't get so tired out ascending. Have you tried out the battery powered drill ascenders? The biggest hazards are the rattlesnakes and the occasional tourist that wants to drop rocks to see how deep the shaft is. Since I work in the winter, fortunately, the snakes are slow and sleepy and can be avoided. The tourists and city folk gawking down the shaft are a much higher level of danger.

I know the feeling in another lifetime I did industrial confined spaces work and there where a few times I stopped and said I dont want to do this one.As for being on rope to me the greatest feeling in the world cause once on rope was always as happy as a pig in mud I trusted the gear and my training though i admit to slight edge vertigo so I always stay away from the first twelve inches of a drop just walk straight through it and onto rope works for me.May I say another great upload and one would have to have been on rope before to truly appreciate that descent hello from Australia.

Another mine exploring channel I watch is some guys in Wales. Some of the mines they go in date back to Roman Empire days. They often find sheep tallow candles still attached to the ribs. They appear to be real mountaineering guys and I'm always impressed when the drill 3 to 5 anchor points to tie their ropes too. Redundant safety is never a bad thing.

I've found that pool noodles are excellent as a cushion for rope on sharp edges. Combined with a piece of cloth to hold it tight in place (added a few snaps myself to a piece of canvas that goes around the pool noodle, which is sliced so i can insert it where i want) it's perfect for impromptu angle changes in caves or mines (in this case). I have like 4 with me in my backpack at all times.
