Thank you for your presentation. Are you aware of any videos out there detailing how to marry a post and beam, timbered, structural ceiling or 2nd floor floor joists to a stick built home?
You are providing a tremendous educational service to the public. Timber Framing and Hybrid Timber Framing are classic architectural styles which produce a satisfying feeling no other type of architecture can evoke within the human mind. As opposed to a properly built timber frame home; the stick-built "McMansions" of upscale gated communities across America are revealed to be merely "posers" attempting to display a form of grandeur that is mostly just flashy imitation and pomp, without real architectural integrity. Such grandiose but ultimately cookie-cutter homes proliferate because they impart a feeling of status to the affluent person who does not have the discernment to distinguish genuine beauty and elegance from the pale and hollow facsimile offered by these soulless trophy houses, despite their seven figure price tags. Standing in stark contrast to this immature and amateur display, we find the timber frame home offering a solidity and timeless structure that comforts the mind with a feeling of imposing protection, and elevates the spirit to soar with the massive beams that stretch upward in a manner reminiscent of the grand cathedrals. Those who lump timber frame and hybrid timber frame homes together with "log cabins" and dismiss them as being overly "rustic" are allowing themselves to fall victim to a stereotype which simply is not true. While a rustic look is certainly possible if that is what the buyer wants, the majority of timber frame homes display a more balanced look which encompass some classic elements together with clean modern styling. The only reason timber frame homes are not more widely seen across America, is because they are not as well suited for mass production as their stick built counterparts. Arrow Timber Framing has become the primary advocate and evangelist of our generation for this vastly underappreciated school of thought and architecture. I look forward to receiving my copy of the second edition of Bert Sarkkinen's definitive work on hybrid timber framing.
