This song highlights 70's Journey better than any other. They were first, and foremost a LIVE band. The studio albums just can't capture how great these guys are at their craft. Neal is a BEAST. Gregg mashes out the blues on the Hammond B3, and Ross -- who gets way too little credit - belts out the funk (listen closely in the bridge) to make this one of most technically difficult and mind bendingly incredible songs ever written. This is a classic rock anthem that far too few people know...
If you never saw Steve Perry in his prime he wasn't just a great singer and writer, on stage he would dance around the stage, his legs always moving and he made everyone feel like they were watching and hearing the best in the world. A lot of film doesn't capture what it was like to be there, though some of the very good in sounds are, but the footage is selective and you never see the full stage like any of us did in the crowd watching. His dancing wasn't choregraphed either it was a rock and roll show and Spontaneous.
some of you need to get your story straight. Steve wanted to be in the band but he didn't want to be pressured about the decision on his hip replacement therapy. The proper thing for the rest of the band was to wait for Steve to decide and heal. Other bands have never given up on their band members despite problems, such as Aersosmith.
Yep, the band has never been the same since. I don't care what anyone says, Perry made that band. Noone comes anywhere close to his singing. Deen Castronovo is close but still Noone can take Perry's place.
I agree with you Sandra ! His bandmates ( BEST FRIENDS ?) Gave him a choice.....Do the surgery now or we replace you ! I think Steve was afraid of the surgery. He left. I don't think they really gave him an option. Do it or else !
The Talent in this Band is Absolutely incredible I saw them back when Steve was on stage, the Goosebumps on my arms would not stop, would love to see this today, Bless you Journey
hey mr. evolution. first of all, if someone calls themselves a JOURNEY fan an doesnt own CAPTURED, they dont deserve to hear it!! second: i saw journey with PERRY 8 times and they were one of those very rare bands that sounded better live then on their records. in my opinion, i think they thought the CAPTURED version of DIXIE HIGHWAY was so brillant, that they couldnt do it justice in the studio! so there it stays for all time, live, flawless and unknown to the "fly by night" JOURNEY fans!
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! I never knew there was footage like this of this song! Just listen to those soarinngg vocal lines! O.O!! Thank you SO much for sharing this! 5 starsss and faVed! RAWK ONN! ToMMaY!i!
I WENT TO VISIT A FRIEND DOWN IN SAVANNAH GA, DRIVING DOWN FROM GREENSBORO NC, I GET TO SAVANNAH AND MY FRIEND TELLS ME THAT HE BOUGHT SOME TICKETS FOR US TO SEE A COVER GROUP CALLED DEPARTURE WHO PERFORMS JOURNEY SONGS AND THE SINGER WAS A SPOT ON FOR STEVEN PERRYS VOCALS, SO WE SIT THROUGH THIS WHOLE CONCERT WHICH CONSISTED OF ABOUT A 100 PPL AND THEY WERE GOOD. OUR TABLE WAS PRETTY CLOSE TO THE STAGE AND AFTER THE CONCERT WAS OVER THEY THANKED EVERYONE AND I LEANED OVER MY TABLE AND SHOUTED TO THE SINGER WHY THEY DID NOT DO DIXIE HWY??? HE REPLIED HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE SONG AND THEN WALKED BACK OFF THE STAGE AFTER A NUMBER OF FRIENDLY HAND GESTURES TO THE CROWD AND I THOUGHT IT IS SO FUNNY FOR A GROUP WHO KNOWS JOURNEY SO WELL AND NOT TO KNOW THIS SONG.
Steve Perry and Neil Shonn grew apart over the years. Neil had to have the music Steve Perry was NEVER in a hurry after he left the band in '86 and they broke up.
daspudster01, I kinda like that shot myself...sigh....and I love this live version, where he sings with Neals guitar note for note. Who does that? At first I wasn't sure what I was hearing, then realized it wasn't an instrument, it was STEVE ! Do you have this version but with clearer video?

Neal' s so mesmerizing guitar player 🎸

I truly love to watch him dance so so great love!
Every time I`ve heard this song live they nail it. Journey was incredible for being so consistant live.
Steve has so much energy to this rockin' song! And I miss Gregg Rolie's fingers pressin' on the keyboards!
I was HERE Baby💕🎶, Largo, MD~1980~the fabulous Capitol Centre, later named US Air Arena.
I haven’t been quite the same since!

Crazy mad vocals...fantastic musicians..... brilliant!!!
What can you say... Awesome song... Love the beat... Everytime I hear this song my feet just want to move... :)
Love his dancing.
Neal Schon, wow love it. Playing an Ovation electric guitar. Those were the days with Gregg Rolie and Schon. Not too long before leaving Santana.
this song is the shit. I don't know why they didn't record it in the studio. I also wish they hadn't stopped doing it after Gregg left the band.
I love Steve's dancing in this one
"boy you are a fun group tonight, you are a fun group" haha steves hilarious
Fun fact - this was filmed in Largo, Florida, where there is, indeed, a road called the Dixie Highway!
Yep, that is the Dixie Highway that Journey is referring to.
The Dixie runs from Michigan all the way to Florida.
all supreme musicians but mr. steve smith was the secret weapon...truly a drummers drummer.
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! I never knew there was footage like this of this song! Just listen to those soarinngg vocal lines! O.O!! Thank you SO much for sharing this!

There is NO Journey without Steve Perry!
Yeeha - you GO Steve !!! :)
AMAZING!!
wow isnt this something!
3:38-4:28....omg Perry
In my next life I want to be Steve Perry :) :) :)
@RatAffasGirl ... I think both Steves in the band are epic, Perry and Smith.
Steve Perry and Neil Shonn grew apart over the years. Neil had to have the music Steve Perry was NEVER in a hurry after he left the band in '86 and they broke up.
Oooo he just does things to me when he shakes it.
daspudster01, I kinda like that shot myself...sigh....and I love this live version, where he sings with Neals guitar note for note. Who does that? At first I wasn't sure what I was hearing, then realized it wasn't an instrument, it was STEVE ! Do you have this version but with clearer video?
👍👍👍
😍👏👏👏👏👏👏🎼🎸
Someone, (or me) please AI upscale these videos! We wanna see Steve in HD.
Ovation, "UK II" electric to be exact.
Ross and Smith Fired. It's Over. Only Schon Left. Sad.....
neals hair is big but not as big as 1978!
Is Neal's guitar playing this similar to that of Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover?
Simular, it the same arppegio in the key of G
I thought the same about so I had to listen to Cliffs of Dover.
I was at this show! Wasn't this at the old Bayfront Center before it was torn down?
Steve Perry I bet you could do zip
This does not appear to be the same Perry of the 80's Escape era anyone else notice the difference ?
Nobody like Steve
And, Dixie chicken by little feet.

What's Neil supposed to do pine away for Steve. If SP doesn't want to be in the band forget em.
