Wild Hog Charged Me Hunting - Follow up shots with Marlin 1894 Cowboy in 44 Mag - Graphic

- Hunting wild hogs is always fun, but sometimes they charge. I was glad to have some "fairly calm" follow up shots with my trusty Marlin 1894 Cowboy Lever Action in 44 magnum. This hog stood it's ground then decided to charge. I hit him every time, but these critters are built like tanks. Third shot got him down and the fourth for good measure. Glad to have a clean kill to fill the freezer with delicious meat.

I have hunted these feral pigs for years. The wounded ones are the dangerous ones. My partner was attacked by a wounded boar even after being shot with a 270. Luckily I was there as the 400 pound beast knocked him to the ground and cut open his leg. One shot from my 22 hornet in the head did him in. I do not trail wounded boars at night anymore especially by myself. When trailing a wounded boar now I use an 18 inch semi-auto shotgun loaded with buck-shot and a slug!

Overkill beats marginal.
@@MadFox-jr6by bullet placement is king.
That makes a good argument far a high power rifle.
It makes a good argument for placing your shots better
You aren't going to place your shots very well on a charging animal, but the skull when at a shallow angle will skip handgun rounds right off, a high powered rifle bullet won't care about the angle. @@virgilhilts3924
@@virgilhilts3924 How is it always the people talking about shot placement are always the worst shots.

You're the first I've heard make such a child-like assertion.
The real world of science has proven that proper placement trumps everything else.
The fact that it took this guys four shots to drop some pork speaks for itself.
Meanwhile I can easily drop them with a single shot of 22 Magnum.
I cannot help it if facts hurt your feelings.
It makes a good case for a repeater, too.
"is that close enough?"
Bro the dinner pretty much brought itself to your fuckin table.
Determined to getcha! I've got an 1894 .44 Mag. that I picked up used in Northern Colorado.
He was in a hurry to be the main course at the pig roast 👍🏼
Agreed
try my bacon!!!
Dang, he was mad at you
Good job! looks like a good time.
Did you hit with all 4 shots?
Seems like number 3 got the best of him and the 4th for insurance.
yeah I think only the last 2 actually hit

Where is this? Looks like Paso Robles California maybe.
I was thinking the same thing, or Shandon.
That one came in!
Central Coast California?
Lots of hogs outside of San Jose seen many of them running along 101
A bear charges faster
Indeed they do.
They're certainly fast, but not faster than a semi auto's follow up shots
I heard Ruger .44 magnum semi auto's are pretty popular for Bear defense
Really?🤦♂️
did you see a Bear in the video there Winnie???!
Good thing it's not a bear then
Bacon.....it's what's for dinner....
Nice one
Was that white box 44 special or target FMJ?
Neither
LOL.
Why would you be using either of those rounds for a hunting application and not jacketed soft points meant for animals? Why is this even a question?
@@sergeantbigmac I think he was being facetious.
@@thomash4447 Ya I admit I missed the joke the 1st time
Close the distance.
My uncle Climbed a tree are he would have been eating by a wild boar. Back in the 50s in Texas.
what was that with the lady seemingly going to give a pistol? a little tiny weensy pistol.
For the coup de grace.
Chris P. Bacon rip
Come at me, bro?!
Boy I know that made you sweet a little bit lol good shooting
Hog had no chance against a big boar rifle.
That hog was 3 weeks from retirement too 😢
the 3rd. shot, "I think I can make it." 4th. shot, "I don't think so." ...shake it off.
Yeah now try that on a momma grizz
Looks like every one of your shots was way too high, just skimming his top. With every one you can see smoke at the very top, rather than at middle for a direct hit, and then bullets hitting dust a lot farther off in the distance, not nearby. Indicating you aren't getting solid, direct hits. Requiring 4 shots of 44 mag to finally get him also indicates something is wrong.
I do not think he ever saw the shooter.
That hog had heart reminds me of a Spartan pig ya know 🥷🎭
The vikings and ancient Greeks revered the wild boar for many of its attributes
Keep the camera on the target quit moving around
Need to have an eye exam
My ex wife charges faster for a Big Mac and a….well nm
Hogs sure are to7gh s.o.b.s
maybe it charged you because you were pointing a gun at it dum dum
You do realize, the ham, bacon, and pork you eat from grocery stores is made from slaughtered hogs, right?
@@BigDaddySwingingMeat Patrick thinks feral hogs know what a gun looks like, so it’s doubtful he is aware of where meat comes from.
@@Pavia1525 I think you're correct. I just visited his channel page and noticed he is a soy boy euro c u c k o l d that lives in Germany. 😆
