I read the Log From the Sea of Cortez as a child and it put a splinter in my mind ever since
Haha I'm reading it now! Birthday present :)

The best way to get rid of bees and other insects is to burn Greek coffee. Just put a little in a dish and light it up. It will smoke them out, without irritating you. I live on a Greek island and learned this trick from my neighbors. It works!!!
Love the underwater photography!
Your photography has really evolved beautifully. Framing, perspective, etc all soooo sweet. Love that you just were 1 with the bees, peaceful coexistence which is currently solely lacking world wide. You are really scratching my itch!!
Amen
you have an itch to kill harmless and dfenseless sea life? really? you need help...now. seem professional help...
Yet another stellar episode of Salt & Tar: the hits just keep coming!
Thank you guys, Go, Kinsey!! Another awesome video from the ever-beautiful Ruth, Man I even got a little jealous of that bee, and thank you for "I'm Defenceless". Garrett, you're a natural man.
Yes, like to know about your other anchor too.
Been to San Carlos many times. Think you’ll enjoy it. If you end up driving to Tucson, look us up. We can linger over a beer n discuss sailing!! Best on your trip. Jim
It was destine to be the two of you meet on vacation and never looked back and both of you were meant for each other. And the two of you sailing into your 90's and beyond will continue to sail into the sun set...
Wow guys, The boat looks fabulous! Glad to see your in a great place.
Ruth unlocks the art of the aqua-selfie 👍👍
I'm missing you guys, I have watched you for so long your projects have become my projects LOL. Well I hope that you get your rest and eventually returned to the Salt & Tar vlog.
So nice watching you both enjoy what you have worked all those years to achieve.
what...working years you can kill harmless wildlife inthe ocesn...get yourself out from under the rock you live under and see what these two are doing...end it now!
Hi guys, the bees will be chasing freshwater so if you put some water outside sometimes it will help keep up the good work. Love your videos Cliff from Logan city Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 from the big island 🇦🇺🏝️
Golden rule of spear fishing
Do not hit the dingy !
Love the videos! The vibe is quite different without the influence of alcohol. You guys make my days so much brighter!
Thank you
Oh yeah…… your narration and soundtrack are off the charts great
Your move from building channel to cruising channel is getting better with every video. Whoo Hoo!!
Greatly enjoying Kinsey in your videos, she is an asset to be kept around for awhile ❤
JIM🎉
This is the episode that showed up on my feed, after watching this one, I went back and have binged them all in about 3 weeks. Loved them so much I ordered a shirt. Can't wait to see where you guys go! Beautiful boat and beautiful people!
My computer lost all my subscriptions and not I just found it again glade to be back watching you both
I sailed in the 70s 31'pearson ,I'm 65 now and can't do what I want but I see you guys and it makes me remember how it was back in the 70s on the east coast, thanks
I love the underwater stuff! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the update. Have a great week.
Thank you for all your hard work and sharing your talent. Your videography, editing, and storytelling are better than anything on TV/Netflix. "Thanks for sharing!"
New subscriber and have to say I love the content and the boat you have as well! Living the life guys. Stay safe and looking forward to the next video!
Bees! I keep several hundred thousand, they are gentle enough when it is not their home, they won't bother you. They die when they sting, so they only do it as a last resort. Put an inch of small pebbles in a tray, fill with water and they will drink that in preference to anything else. Put it on the bow and they will *probably* leave the cabin alone.
Fun times.
Thanks!
Another wonderful film. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent b roll this week. Did the swarm leave after the smoke? I hope you were able to resolve the bee issue. Install a bee hive and you could start a new side hustle "Sea Bee Honey"😂🎉❤ I love your content, Jacques Cousteau would enjoy your footage.
The sequel to salt water taffy, salt water honey!😂
Hope you guys are safe from that hurricane/tropical storm that just went up the Gulf of California! Made we wonder if you'd ever recovered / replaced that anchor you donated to the Pacific? A second anchor during a hurricane might be useful!
Is this a budding gal-crush? So cute!
I guess that's one way to end up Bee-Calmed for a while
Bee serious now.
Ouch!
That pun stung.
Wonderful video! You had me smiling most of the way through it. I have been worried about how you faired with Hillary?
Y’all make underwater filming look so easy! I’ve tried it enough to know it can be tricky! Hope to see more spear gun action soon!
There are so few people that built their own boat from scratch and actually managed to enjoy the fruited of their labors and you really do it so well.
A joy to watch and follow along ❤
Cheers Warren
so..do you think it's a joy to watch successful you-tubers who have a lot of money, killing wildlife in the sea? well, do you>...or not?
@@savannaswildnatureworkshop7810 You don’t seem to know anything about Ruth and Garrett, they spent 7+ long years on a very small budget building their own sailboat from raw lumber and many used parts. I have supported them thru this entire time and have been very happy to do so. I’m sure nobody would think of them making as ‘lot of money’ from their efforts. They deserve all the joy and happiness of being able to use their own sailboat in anyway they like.
The small amount of aquatic creatures they harvest from the sea for their own consumption is fine with me. The time and effort they put into this is worth way more than the small harvest they occasionally take. There are parts of the world where it would be inappropriate as the over ‘fishing’ has Devastated stocks. Baja is not one of those places.
Oh and there move to the mainland was 2 fold , safety from storms and access to supplies and facilities to do work on their sailboat which needs steady repair and maintenance.
They are leavening a very small footprint on the world, your anger would be better directed at the over exploitation of natural resources by commercial interests and governments than don’t do enough to reduce the unnecessary pollution and desecration of the environment. Since you asked!
Cheers Warren
You know guys, when all the other sailing channels went there and got raided by the bees, they just immediately packed up and left. Maybe you should consider some bug screens for your port holes and companion way the next time you buy some boat parts. Just sayin!
And as usual, another great video. Very enjoyable to watch!
Take a bowl, fill it with marbles and fill it with water. Put it up near the anchor bee problem solved.
Bees were likely there for the fresh water and/or sugar on the food, which is why they were all in the sink. The island looks quite dry, as well....or no well, as it were.
Not sure if I’ve ever said it before, but Garrett, you are a lucky lucky guy.
Wup wup ! Good job guys
I hear the trivially is great eating. Good job 😮😊
Always exciting to follow you on your sailing adventures; very groovy.
Great video guys! Just subscribed. Can't say I envy you with the bee invasion hehe enjoy and fair winds from the Trinity Crew!
Great Video !
Just Sweet.
Nice area down there, the bee's can be a problem sometimes. Looks like you need a few fillet knives, it'll make your life a lot easier! Get a sharpening stone also, you'll need it.
Put a bucket of water on the beach and use peppermint extract to push the bees ashore.
Nice fish
"Striped Sea Chub" 😂😂
Wait a minute 😮 two man crew! Lucky man 😊
Hope you guys were safe and made it through Hilary unscathed !!
Thanks for the great video, I hope you weathered Hillary okay...
Love your channel.. Keep it up.
Need a bee hive and some flowers on deck for them to retreat to at night. In no time you can start harvesting your own fresh honey, right there on board.
I don't know about foreign customs issues though...🤨?
Great underwater footage in this video. As a hunter/fisher, didn't care much for an injured fish getting away, but it does happen.
I don't like letting injured animals loose, it makes them prey for other animals too often. But hey, it doesn't often make them any easier to catch either. It's different with a rifle than it is with an under water spear. Heck of a nice try. Looks like she was continually shooting a bit high. But she did keep getting closer with each shot. She's getting there. Keep consistent with how she loads the spear, and how she aims, and she'll be deadly accurate with that spear in no time. She definitely has the drive to be a spear fisherwoman. Just remember to come up for air when needed. Zeroing in on a fish can distract from your own needs very easily.
Learning new skills.
Man those bees,,,,,, I’d be having a real problem with them lol. Ya all handled it like champs! Great episode
enjoyed the video…….be safe
I’m a lousy spearfisher, always have been so I’m well impressed with you guy’s ability to score enough to keep yourselves fed. Those meals you cook up always look awesome!
Really enjoyed the vid, sooo chilled.
Hope Hillary didn’t cause you too much hassle?
Cheers, R. 😎👍
Bees love Salt & Tar - who knew? The problem to solve is how you can get them to make honey for you. :¬) Webhead USA
Garrett, Kinsey, with your spearing activities, maybe make yourself or get a 90 degree offset left hand grip for speargun like you have on your power drill etc tools ? It will help keep the trigger squeeze from tweaking the shot if you're better braced using both hands. You could mount it aft near where you have that padding on butt. Have also seen an improvised crutch forearm grip used as a stabilizer too, though that's less mobile.
Mint extract will help get the bees to leave
KInsey is a welcome addition to the crew, if only as an extra camera operator. Now we get action shots of Ruth. The filming and editing is improving so much and making the watching so much more enjoyable. However I do do believe you, Ruth and Kinsey are not being fair to Garrett, what is a man to do in the midst of two half naked beautiful women? I suggest the girls should be dressed from neck to toe in flannel onesies. They would be quite cooling when wet so .... Hang on scrap that thought, leave things exactly as the are. 🙂
Wow great episode.
Try swimming beside the fish and hold the spear gun across sideways with both hands to shoot fish from the side.
Fish are less cautious when you aren't following them.
Swim slow and steady as if you aren't interested in the fish at all.
Beautiful video!
Bees are mostly calm and gentle. Many people, who don’t know better, call wasps/hornets bees, which are terribly aggressive. 🐝 = good
I hope your crossing is enjoyable and I'm curious to hear how you fared during the Hurricane. My last sail in the sea was across to San Carlos. it was a bit rough 25 to 30 knts. Safe sailing!
I would try using sugar water in a container on the deck. This should draw them out of the cockpit.
Got the damn munchies for some fish now! You will be my go to sound engineer/music editor if the time ever comes to pass.
Love it keep it up as always 💘
if you guys had a couple of folding crab traps you can catch some crabs and or Lobster with them fish scraps
Yellowbird is the only animal that can withstand peppers with out feeling the heat.
onboard lifestyle had the same problem with the bees
I hope you guys made out ok during Hillary.
Your making really good videos 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Thank you.
Fantastic episode the videography and editing continues to improve just hope everyone is doing ok..
What?! No Hillary drama? Lovely episode as always.
how did you finally get rid of the bees ? did I miss that ? :-) lol
It's very hard to hit a fish when you are shooting down. You want to be on the bottom and pick a target that is level or slightly above you.
Just curious, did anyone ever manage to find and rescue your other anchor?
Its strange you mentioned that as I often think about that too when they raise and lower the anchor
Russell
following
Which also reminds me of a song by E.L.O. "Bruce, don't bring me down!"
I believe that’s lost forever….
@@DiscusRussellhi I seem to recall an episode where the guys retrieved there pick and chain Marty Australia
ayyyy
Fun to see you guys spearfishing if you wanna tip get a Sea urgent and flip it upside down chop it up with your dive knife under water and back up and all the fish will come to you many many fish have been nailed by my speargun in the Channel Islands
where did all those bees come from?
The best part of the fish you throw away......
Never seen bees on the ocean like that where did they come from plus you are in what looks like a desert
The Sea of Cortez is surrounded by the Sonoran Desert. There are plenty of bees in the Sonoran Desert (which extends up into Southern Arizona).
Well at lease they are honey bees.
IF its type of wasps I have here that I don't mind to much, I call them Helicopter Wasps because of their two section body. They are one of the least aggressive of all bees/wasps but maybe that isn't what you have ?
Now u need a bee tattoo.
Were those baracuda @ 13:20 min?
video quá đẹp và rất ấn tượng với tôi ! các thành viên trong video đều chuyên nghiệp trong việc của mình , chúc mọi người nhiều sức khỏe 😃😃😃😃😄😄😄😄
How did you ditch the bees ? My friend used to use ganja. Safe journeys !
I so want to give her tips on spearfishing..but i bet so many others already have..if your target is swimming shoot where he's going to be. Not at him.
The bees need sugar. We are losing them at an alarming rate. Without them we are screwed. Hate to sound so negative but this is what is happening.
No were not.
Garrett - exercise, check yer prostrate with a doc. And love every minute of your time. Thatisall. 👊🇺🇸🧂
Misunderstood three 3⃣ man crew still a lucky man
Don't comment much@ But love your food shots
what about the bees?
God dam get a electric windlass...lol
As a hunter and non spearfisher and knowing I'm months behind. CALM, float to the fish. Deer know you're a hunter because you sound like a predator. Those fish are just swimming not pursuing. At best they're escaping.
Okay, this version tops the rest of the pack of "adventure salors": two very undressed chicks per guy instead of one. Simple but you had to be first!
