That takes me back. My father had a few, last one was the super 850 estate mum dad and 5 kids in back. And every year dad having the king pin checked or replaced on front end . I really do miss the Robin.
Had three of these in the 80’s. Run them all on a full motorcycle licence. Came in handy for bad weather travel when I couldn’t be bothered with all the wet weather riding clothing. Have since got a full car licence but still have a motorcycle. Often thought about getting another reliant as a fun runabout. Might just do it one day. Great vid 👍🏻
Wow what a rapid robin. I could hear that nice snickety gear change. Yep, I really enjoyed that trip and apart from the middle wheel picking up the rougher centre parts of the road she seemed to be indistinguishable from a four wheeler. I didn't get the sense of instability on bends or turns. She scrubbed up well too. I'm going to enjoy seeing this car and the contrast with your other cars. Thank you.

20 yrs ago i carried out mot repairs/mild restoration on one, i was really surprised how fast it was after a full hit under the bonnet. setting tappets, new tank + pump + cleaning out the carb made the biggest difference it took a lot of provoking to get a wheel in the air, but still felt reasonably stable, only the sudden increase in revs told you that you were up... clarkson's car was seriously doctored to make it unstable, because it would not roll on demand
@@paulriggers1558 thanks for watching and commenting. Been a while since I've taken one out but enjoyed every minute and has you point out will only get better with maintenance.
Good for you! Bit different from Zephyr but hey ho you will get it sorted. You should get a grant for restoring these ordinary cars that are part of our Heritage, without these cars there wouldnt have been any of the later yuppymobiles in the 80s 90s. A little Austin A30 might be fun too!!!!
What a neat little car and it gets around right smartly. That front end banging and rattling would get annoying I think. Roads must be rough. Although I'm having the same problem in the front end of my 84 Mustang trying to find where all the rattling is coming from.
You used to go past the back of the Reliant factory back in the 1970's on the train. In the corner of the yard there were old burnt out body shells. Mmmmmm.
I remember being told that miners in your neck of the woods used to buy cheap old Reliant three-wheelers to get to work back in the day because public transport was often non-existant at pit shift change times, and motorbikes weren't much fun in the rain or snow - and three wheelers could be driven on a bike licence, of course.
In my Rialto van the best mpg I've got is 67 to the gallon Yes yours is a 850 with the su is right, zenith is just the 750 A good upgrade on a robin is to ditch the reliant version of the su 1-1/4 and use the mini version but the same reliant needle, that version doesn't have the breather outlet on the rocker cover (use a vent can with a breather) One thing you need to make sure of is that on your chamber top lid it has a overflow outlet you connect a pipe to, if it doesn't change it as it'll overflow on your exhaust manifold and that's the most common fire risk on a reliant Good luck with it 👍

Tax and Test exempt, loads to the gallon, they brought transport to the masses, especially us bikers who only had a bike licence back then. Back in the early 80's my mate's dad ran a recovery company out in the sticks and said he got called out one night to one of these with no front end left on it. Just the drivers and passengers seat left. The driver had pulled out on a Princess on a local A road which had consequently carried on after hitting it. The driver of the Robin was fine and had managed to get out when the car stopped spinning!. How's that for tough.
