Wow! 28lb boat! That will make the portages that much easier. You will enjoy that trip. If the route isn’t busy you will have all the peace and quiet you are looking for. All the best to you on your trip. Enjoy your new boat and I appreciate the kind words. Thank you!
That was wonderful Dave I'm looking forward to part 2 Appreciate the shoutout and I'm glad you like the sabot stove. Canoe looks great 👍 Thanks for taking us along
Cragdwella surprisingly I didn’t. First trip in a long time where I haven’t. The terrain on this trip isn’t as conducive for Moose especially due to the boulder strewn glacier deposits on all the lake shores but I fully expected to see bear. To be honest I saw no signs of Moose or bear scat during my travels. On the Allagash and St. John River you couldn’t walk 3 feet without stepping in Moose scat at a minimum
Chad, glad you enjoyed the video. I agree Maine is beautiful and there is plenty to explore. Hopefully, you have as many opportunities as possible to explore both Maine and New Hampshire. Appreciate the message!
Benjamin it is and was a great trip for sure. It’s a rugged trip depending on how fast you move but very enjoyable nonetheless. Appreciate the comment. Always look forward to reading and responding to comments. Thanks for taking the time! Happy New Year!
The area is very well protected and a gorgeous area for sure. I almost decided on the Explorer plus. The positive response to the Explorer Plus is extraordinary. Maybe my next paddle!, but I certainly hope to build a couple of my own when I can source the wood this winter. Thanks for watching!
This is s trip we have yet to do. Is the portage marked well from the lake? The trail itself looks pretty well worn down. The steak subs on naaan bread...great idea!
New portage signs a few years back are helpful. The portages are strenuous to a certain extent but not too long which makes it a great trip. I like to eat well on the trail and believe me when I say those steak and cheese on naan bread was absolutely delicious. I got the idea of using Naan bread from the TH-camr Lost Lakes. So versatile with what you can make with them. Thanks for watching. Very much appreciated!
This looks so good everybody is going to want to do it and it won't be remote anymore haha. I haven't done canoeing in years, but I hike the backcountry in Maine a few times a year - great adventures! 27:30 - nice looking saw. Can you tell me the manufacturer or name?
Thanks for the message and watching the video. Maine Trail Finder makes this route very public. It is a strenuous trip but enjoyable. The saw that I use is the Agawa Canyon Boreal 21”. It is a great saw and makes quick work of cutting wood.
There are a total of four carries on this trip. Seems like a lot but it is a small percentage in comparison to the lake travel covered. Thanks for watching and following along Greg!
Pleased to hear that you enjoyed the video. This trip is a favorite of mine and I was motivated to capture it this particular time on video. Thanks for tuning in, watching, enjoying and leaving a comment! Have a great day!
I think that may be one of the best reasons I've heard for a fuel stove. quick and no maintenance on the fire to extinguish it. I have a cheap burner that screws to a can, don't use it much, but with dryer summer coming on I may be making a simple hobo stove as a cheap alternative to the twig stove.
Sometimes it is just easier to get going in the morning and the fuel stove is a great alternative. I would be interested to see what you come up with for a hobo stove. I Enjoy watching your videos and I thank you for watching this video!
Building the canoe was the best decision. There is a special feeling about paddling the craft built with my own hands. Winds got in the way on Pemi and Third for fishing but I managed to land three smaller sized Brookies on Second
Ha....is that all you got out of the video! Smithfield precooked bacon....not bad at all though. First time ever consuming that stuff. I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was!
I always take fishing gear with me but I don’t think I spent a lot of time fishing on this trip. It was a windy trip and fishing conditions weren’t the best.
I suppose what I meant to say was the eggs are unwashed meaning the bloom is still intact which allows for the eggs not to have to be refrigerated. Convenient for a wilderness trip especially when eggs are preferred and a cooler is not practical on a trip which requires portaging. Hope this helps.
This canoe weighs in at 56 lbs. definitely manageable. I will do that same trip again someday with the same canoe, however, I will reduce my pack weight and single carry without a cart.
class job great trip enjoyed from start to end look forward to seeing the rest thanks for putting it up
Mike, thanks for the comment and certainly glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
I just put a deposit on a 14' Hornbeck and I'm going to "Debs " this July , God willing!!! thx. Also, your boat is beautiful !!!

Thought you did a great job on many levels, music, video, silence. Thanks very entertaining.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it. It was a great trip and one that I will definitely do again. Appreciate you taking the time to watch.
THE MEALS WE EAT ON THESE TRIPS ARE OFTEN THE ONES WE REMEMBER MOST AS WE GET OLD.
I plan to eat very well on my next trip. I couldn’t agree more. Food tastes better in the backcountry while on a canoe trip.
looks like an amazing trip!

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video. Pleased to learn that the trip sparked some nostalgia with your past trips in Maine!! Thank you for watching.
Looks like a really gorgeous area! Bending Branches makes a great paddle. I have an explorer plus that I love.

Pre-cooked bacon?!!! That’s sacrilegious 😂😂😂

Where’s your fishing gear?
I always take fishing gear with me but I don’t think I spent a lot of time fishing on this trip. It was a windy trip and fishing conditions weren’t the best.
Dave ,Im really sorry but what did you say after you said eggs were from your buddy and there not RINsED ?What ? Ive never heard rinsed

you should get yourself a lighter canoe
