I have a few things to mention that I did not mention in the video that might help you out if you're having any issues getting your camera to work as a webcam. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ ZOOM - Make sure that you have updated zoom to at least 5.1. If you don't, then Cam Twist will not appear in the video settings. CAM TWIST - If your image is looking low resolution go into the Cam Twist preferences and play around with the FPS and resolution. - A good starting point is 30FPS and 1280 x 720. You might think 720 is low quality, but it looks incredible in comparison to a normal webcam. YOUR SONY CAMERA - Make sure that your camera is in Movie mode on the top dial. - From what viewers have said, THIS METHOD does not seem to work with the a6000 at the moment. I do not personally own an a6000 so I cannot test this for myself. - There are other ways to use the a6000 as a webcam, but they typically are a hassle to make work. - If anyone has any helpful tips to get that specific camera to work with THIS METHOD please comment below :) Hopefully this helps :)
@@mah5255 As far as I know you cannot use the camera audio for this method. There are however a couple of options. 1. you could run the Rode directly into your computer with a cable like this amzn.to/3jegYHU However, the one drawback is that you would need to use headphones or external speakers in order to hear the audio coming from your computer. You could use the standard apple headphones if you wanted. - Macs are a bit funky because they don't have a dedicated mic input. So if you don't have external speakers or a set of headphones that you like, then this method may not satisfy your needs. 2. You could purchase one of these cheap capture cards amzn.to/3gDASdI It's like $23 and would enable your mic and camera audio to feed into your computer since it runs over HDMI. - This is actually what I use now instead of the Camera Live and Cam Twist method because it's easier and more flexible. - I'll be making a part 2 of this video soon talking about this capture card. It's only 1080p at 30fps, but that is more than enough for the majority of people and I've never seen a capture card that produces such good quality for such a cheap price. 3. You could always purchase a USB mic to use for your computer, but obviously, you'd be limited to what you could use it for. Unless... if you happen to have the Rode Video Mic NTG amzn.to/2D4JFYx then I think you can just run that to your computer over USB. Hope that this helps Mark!
This is the best tutorial to get lagless and smooth video input into your OBS. Other tutorials didn't work. This one did! Saved me $200 on Elgato! This video needs a million more views! More power to you, Zac! Great content!
@@srgnt23 quality isn’t as good as elgato’s. I’ve tried this method with the camtwist, sony’s imaging edge webcam software and the camlink4K. Sony’s webcam software is buggy and camera live would sometimes go from “ active” to “camera error”

This works like a charm! I just spent a week watching tutorials on how to connect my DSLR and the were always pointing back to "expensive" video capture cards. I cannot believe this is free. And it works with my old Canon T2i, too!

Thanks, man! Nice summary and approach. Using a7ii worked like a charm the first time. Unfortunately camera live tool went to "camera error" after about an hour and could not recover. If anyone experienced the same - please comment. OBS with Sony's remote control still works too as a backup plan.
Hey Andrey, sorry to hear that you're having some issues. I haven't personally experienced the issue that you described so I can't really suggest a solution. The only thing that comes to mind is when I've had my battery die on me I get a camera error. Out of curiosity, what camera mode do you have the dial on top set to? I typically run mine in movie mode.
@@ZacSopak Tried movie, auto and pretty much all other modes. Like you mentioned, I also feel like if battery goes lower than x% - camera error comes up, however mine never recovered.. Anyway, using OBS and screen capture works, perhaps one day sony will start supporting Macs better :)

Thank you so much! Had freezing and lagging issues with the Elgato Cam Link 4K and my Sony A7C camera. Had to use a micro-HDMI-to-HDMI adapter out of my camera, then a HDMI cable, then the Cam Link, then a USB-to-USB C adapter and then plug it to my new M1 Mac Book Pro. I think it was too much so that the image froze every few minutes or barely worked at all with OBS. Your solution works perfectly fine! Thanks mate, you saved me another whole day of trouble shooting and headache 🤝

hello, I just would like to give a quick way to open camTwist and that by Clicking Right click then open it will ask you to click on cancel or open click open and you are good to go .

Got the ZV-1 in order to use it as a webcam for Zoom, but the charge it's getting from the USB cable is not enough, so after a while, it runs out of battery and shuts down. Details: - I use the "Imaging Web Edge Webcam" software on MacOS, - I get similar behavior both with the USD cable that was in the box and a slightly longer one I bought from Amazon. - Actually, with the long one from Amazon, it seems to be running out of battery faster. - I've connected it directly to my mac mini which already has many USB devices. Actually, when I tried to connect my iPad after that, macOS complained about an accessory that draws too much power (the ZV-1), so I wonder if I just need to plug everything else in a powered data hub, so the mac mini provides more voltage to the camera. My expectation was that if I had it plugged-in I could be doing videoconferences for 7-8 hours per day-not that the battery would run out after 50min. I also wonder if the people that are talking about how an amazing webcam it is, are using HDMI for data and are only powering via USB.
Sorry to hear that you're having issues with power. I would normally suggest purchasing a dummy battery for continuous power, but it doesn't look like anyone makes one yet. It is possible that running the signal out over HDMI to a capture card can improve the battery life, but I can't say that for sure because I have never tried it.
You need to correct the title. and info. This works with Alpha cameras that are live-view compatible. The a330, a57, and a58, plus others, are Alphas but may not be capable of streaming due to lack of live view.

CamTwist did not appear in the OBS and I selected the only one option came in 'syphon client' in obs, that was camera live sony a6000. but preview screen of the camera is not appearing. Can you please advise me on this? my camera is Sony a6000

For some reason I can't get this to work on my Mac Mini M1. I have my a7iii on movie mode, settings are correct, plugged in via usb c, everything is showing up correctly on camtwist and camera live, and installed imaging edge. But when I open any program that requires the use of a camera, it does't show up in any drop down as an option. Anyone else encounter this and happen to have a solve?
In CamTwist, CameraLive did not appear as an option (In fact there were no options available in the Syphon server). Any idea what the problem might be?

I am running a macbookpro 2019, with the sony aiii and connected with a power usbc cable (100w capable). MY QUESTION is the following: Even if I set my camera to charge while using it, it seems to run out of battery and die....The cable initially shows the white charging bar on the camera, but when it deplets it then it shows a red mark on the charging.... I don't understand why that could be.....could it be the output from the macbookpro?

I plug my macbookpro with its own mac charger, and I use another port (one of the three left) for the camera. I even tried with an additional camera (nikon z6) to do multicam...and they both work. What I am not so sure is if that usb is actually charging at the same time that is sending the signal....strange

I'm curious about your camera mount. The stand you linked doesn't appear to be desk mountable? Is it just a tri pod behind your desk?
It is actually a light stand with a quick release plate on it. Basically it serves the purpose of a tripod. It's just hidden really well.

Maybe try reinstalling it. Sometimes this can be a little glitchy. I recently posted a video that shows an easier method of doing this and you can pull it off for around $20 if you want to avoid the hassle of the different softwares. th-cam.com/video/dgobX7gVGzc/w-d-xo.html

hi just found this a7iii start cam Live and camera auto shoots like 10 pics,
high speed and says camera error
Got the ZV-1 in order to use it as a webcam for Zoom, but the charge it's getting from the USB cable is not enough, so after a while, it runs out of battery and shuts down.
Details:
- I use the "Imaging Web Edge Webcam" software on MacOS,
- I get similar behavior both with the USD cable that was in the box and a slightly longer one I bought from Amazon.
- Actually, with the long one from Amazon, it seems to be running out of battery faster.
- I've connected it directly to my mac mini which already has many USB devices. Actually, when I tried to connect my iPad after that, macOS complained about an accessory that draws too much power (the ZV-1), so I wonder if I just need to plug everything else in a powered data hub, so the mac mini provides more voltage to the camera.
My expectation was that if I had it plugged-in I could be doing videoconferences for 7-8 hours per day-not that the battery would run out after 50min.
I also wonder if the people that are talking about how an amazing webcam it is, are using HDMI for data and are only powering via USB.
Sorry to hear that you're having issues with power. I would normally suggest purchasing a dummy battery for continuous power, but it doesn't look like anyone makes one yet. It is possible that running the signal out over HDMI to a capture card can improve the battery life, but I can't say that for sure because I have never tried it.

Do a video showing of you doing the same the without downloading software just to use the camera to stream.
You need to correct the title. and info. This works with Alpha cameras that are live-view compatible. The a330, a57, and a58, plus others, are Alphas but may not be capable of streaming due to lack of live view.

with a micro usb Sony camera output (mine is a6500) the video is choppy around 10 fps. It's unusable !!!
Check the pinned comment at the top for tips on how to make things look better in Cam Twist. You have to change the resolution and FPS with the preferences

CamTwist did not appear in the OBS and I selected the only one option came in 'syphon client' in obs, that was camera live sony a6000. but preview screen of the camera is not appearing. Can you please advise me on this? my camera is Sony a6000

For some reason I can't get this to work on my Mac Mini M1. I have my a7iii on movie mode, settings are correct, plugged in via usb c, everything is showing up correctly on camtwist and camera live, and installed imaging edge. But when I open any program that requires the use of a camera, it does't show up in any drop down as an option. Anyone else encounter this and happen to have a solve?
In CamTwist, CameraLive did not appear as an option (In fact there were no options available in the Syphon server). Any idea what the problem might be?
Just wondering I am using a A7C and the PC remote setting is not under the USB connection.. I can See only three option, MTP, Auto and mass storage

That is a fantastic video Zac. Thank you so much to make it so clear for all of us. It really works perfectly. I am running a macbookpro 2019, with the sony aiii and connected with a power usbc cable (100w capable). MY QUESTION is the following: Even if I set my camera to charge while using it, it seems to run out of battery and die....The cable initially shows the white charging bar on the camera, but when it deplets it then it shows a red mark on the charging.... I don't understand why that could be.....could it be the output from the macbookpro?

With the A7iii you could technically plug in a USB-C cable to the computer and then the other USB to a plugged in power source to see if that helps. Otherwise you could try a dummy battery like this amzn.to/36jXqNl

I plug my macbookpro with its own mac charger, and I use another port (one of the three left) for the camera. I even tried with an additional camera (nikon z6) to do multicam...and they both work. What I am not so sure is if that usb is actually charging at the same time that is sending the signal....strange
