- This set was also called "Descriptions hypocrites" and "Vocations électriques" at various stages before their publication. No 1 was also titled "Sur un loup" (about a wolf) and "Sur un thon" (about a tunny-fish). In system 8, Satie quotes the popular song "Maman, les p'tits bateaux qui vont sur l'eau, ont-ils des jambes ?" (Mummy, have the little boats that go on the water got legs?). In the 6/8 sections of "Sur une lanterne", he quotes the French revolutionary song "Dansons la carmagnole". And at the end of "Sur un casque", he first finds the rising three-note figure that was to mark the lifting of the curtain in his later ballets "Parade" and "Relâche".
