@@martinh1309 Baxter a great player, like Best in many ways. I'd agree he wouldn't get in over Charlton or Edwards they were better, but Baxter would be the most skillful & elegant of the 3. One of the top 5 CM's British football has produced I'd say & in the bracket with Law, Dalglish, Mackay & Johnstone as Scotlands best player. Charlton over Edwards as Englands best? Because of career or you think he was better? From what people say it's probably between, Best & Edwards for the best player Britain has produced. Charles the best Welsh 100%, a player ranked with the likes of Pele & Maradona. Giggs wouldn't compare against Charles level of ability, despite being a top player. No Bale? Great XI Keegan a surprise & is Matthews in AM?
@@tt99football56 im not sure Baxter would have been more elegant than Bobby Charlton, i can't think of a player ever being as majestic as Charlton. But a great player without a doubt. If i were to rank my top 5 british players ever at their peak id go: Best Charlton Edwards Charles And im not entirely sure who id go for at 5th I would put Charlton above Edwards on the basis of Charltons overall career allowing him to reach his prime in 1964-1969. Edwards was never allowed to, as he probably had 15 years+ left of his career when he perished. Bobby Charlton has the most Ballon D'or nominations of any british player ever, he was player of the tournament in 66, captained Englands first ever European Cup only 10 years after Munich, without Sir Bobby that wouldnt have been possible, neither would the world cup. If Edwards, Taylor, Byrne, Pegg, Colman etc hadnt died England and United would have dominated world football for the next decade without a shadow of a doubt. In terms of overall career and life, no British player comes remotely close to Sir Bobby in my opinion. But if we go by only at their few prime years id have to say Best, Edwards, Charlton, Charles, Johnstone, Matthews, Keegan, Dalglish etc all has to be in a top 10. Yes you're right Charles was complete it's just hard to go around the longevity of Giggs and his enormous success. Bale doesnt come close to neither in my opinion as he played in a team that was virtually guaranteed European success and he wasnt one of Reals top 3-4 players outside of the 13/14 season in my opinion!
@@martinh1309 I mean interms of Baxter being more graceful & silky, I think we had a bit of elegance on his balance & ball control etc. Charlton like Scholes, Baxter like Iniesta if you get what I mean. Sir Tom Finney he'd be right up there, infact from what those who saw him say. He's top 3 or 4 all time English players, the English George Best. I don't think that can be held against Bale, he was great at Spurs & had at least 6 or 7 great years. A better player than Giggs IMO, though Giggs was more skillful & graceful.
@@tt99football56 that is a good very comparison judging their technical ability. Scholes was in the Charlton mould, Charlton was just a combination of Scholes, Rooney, Gascoigne, Keegan, Ball etc. Baxter was exactly as you say a magical footballer like Iniesta! Yes, Tom Finney has to be mentioned aswell, probably not regarded as highly because of his lack of silverware. Yes Bale at his best was probably better than Giggs at his best, but Giggs was a more complete in the way he was able to go from a pacy skillful winger to a controlling CM later in his career, while Bale hasnt been able to replicate that, maybe due to injuries playing a big part. How would you rank british/Irish players in the PL era purely on ability? My top 10 would probably be: 1. Scholes 2. Rooney 3. Gascoigne 4. Bale 5. Gerrard 6. Shearer 7. Giggs 8. Lampard 9. Barnes 10. Owen
From what I've been told by my grandparents and from what I've heard ex pros say, Duncan Edwards is the greatest player the UK & Ireland has ever produced and that includes George Best, Roy Keane, Paul McGrath, Jimmy Greaves, Dennis Law and the great John Charles. Having lived in Glasgow I know all about Slim Jim and I used to watch him gamble almost every night in a Casino in the early 1980's. He might have still been drinking in those days, but he was never any trouble and always quiet and respectful. Held in the same regard by Gers fans as Jinky is by Celtic supporters 👍
Baxter was a brilliant player, but like George Best, the demon drink shortened his career. Billy McNeill said that Celtic started to get the better of Rangers only after Baxter left them for Sunderland. Great player.

You comment on Duncan Edwards disappeared. If you were talking about the goal i linked, it was 1/2 goals scored against Denmark. I have 3 other England goals of him in the highlight video i talked about
Yea must have been Marked as spam, because I commented twice. I'd seen that goal before, but never knew it was against Denmark. Seen your video a few weeks ago, some great footage.
Would Jim Baxter make your All Time British XI? If not who would in CM?
