    Use No 40 wire with 11% more space between core and base of winding. Reduce Space between individual windings by 35% and you will get 25% more sets of windings and 60% more turns onto the configuration. This will provide output of more voltage with less driver current.

      @diy-or-die5700 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adding 60% more wire whilst reducing insulative material between coils is a terrible idea. This works great if using a diode stack (one in between each coil) for DC output. The problem is HF AC eats/degrades insulation over time. Many 3d printing materials also suffer large losses and heat considerably from HF AC.

    I don't have access to a 3d printer but im an engineer with lathe access so im going to make a bobbin based on your design from solid stock nylon. really like your design and have a load of flybacks from old tvs that i have stripped but as with you, i need HV AC not DC for many of my projects so your design is mint.

    nice one!
    I have a question. How do take the wire from one section to another section? I see there are slots accross the section. the last turn of a section has higher voltage than the first turn of the section. When we take the last turn of one section to first turn / layer of the next section, there will be large voltage differences. Does it not cause arcing through copper wire insulation?

    • @diy-or-die5700
      @diy-or-die5700 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a key concern when winding such transformers. You have two options. The first being to estimate/roughly calculate the peak voltage potential between each pancake coil/spacing and then submerse the transformer in oil and/or add a sheath onto the transfer wire heading into the next section. The second option (more ideal) is to have a hole and "tube" leading to the BOTTOM of every division allowing the HT wire to start at the bottom of each division thus greatly reducing arc over and wire to wire potential.

    What is the purpose of multiple slots on the high voltage winding? Can you share a link where I can read more about the theory? Thanks.

    • @BrunoSantos-lm1pz
      @BrunoSantos-lm1pz 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It makes it so that in 1 slot the voltage between the winding with the lowest potentential and the highest one doesnt get too high and arc. It divides the high voltage into multiple lower voltage parts.

    Really cool, im going to try this, I dont have a 3D printer, but i have a lathe I will just turn a similar piece and mill out the slots in the plastic. I’m thinking of just using a simple 40amp DC PWM speed controller to control the frequency for now. It doesn’t have to be super precise. I have a few projects I need some REALLY high voltage for. Thank you for this video and construction techniques

    Hey, You will burn out your transformer like that, I'd recommend putting it in a transformer oil bath.
    Then you can drive it even harder. If you look closely your transformer is turning blue when its on (arcing across)

      Its ferrite. Its used instead of an iron core like in a "classic" transformer. It works best at high frequencies (in kHz to Mhz range), so you always need a driver circuit (ZVS, royer) to power a ferrite core transformer.

    hello, I am looking to brute force myself to high voltages with no driving circuits. I am looking to re-wind a MOT transformer for 30000 volts at 30mA (900W). Will 32 gauge wire work? I estimated I will need 32000 turns. I will rectify the AC to DC and use a Variac for power control. I want to re-use my primary coil. I do not like using driving circuits and such and need the ability to swap between negative and positive output.

    • @paulbyerlee2529
      @paulbyerlee2529 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be easier to use a voltage multiplier to get to that kind of voltage. Start out with 3000v and do 10 or 11 stages. The down side is you won't have that level of current. 30ma could potentially be lethal. I'd try to keep it under 2.5ma or even get it in the uA range. If you just want impressive arcs try a Marx generator.

      No if you use DC no magnetic field no arc
      You can use AC
      Use the AC POWER SUPPLY
      Or you can use DC by multi mosfet transistor

    • @AsimKumarMahakul
      @AsimKumarMahakul 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you have to multiple High voltage diodes, between sections or else if you are planning below 15kv then one 15kv diode is enough. But here dc means one direction not ripple free, but that works for every physics research needs from xray to ion beam.

      It depends on the transformer core specs. If the core can handle 350Khz, then it sure would (coil numbers/layers differ vastly with different frequencies however).

    • @nautitard
      @nautitard 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well most people have heard of Arduino and can possibly get or use a 3D-printer. If you don't have the tools, then you can't expect to do everything you want to. Not saying it's necessary for this kind of project, but in many cases you can't blame anyone with the right tools for you not having the right tools x)
