Hi Ian Enjoyable / watchable video, as usual, harpy new year to you and Chris, appreciating what we had, still let’s hope we can all look forward to better times in 2022 Expect work is hectic for you and Chris ! Stay safe and go steady, as your in tier 4 Best wishes Derek
Hi Derek yes we are working but it was a nice few days off at Xmas!!! Amazingly we still in Tier 3 in North Somerset but not sure for how long! Have a great 2021 happy new year cheers ian
Some canny conger for you Ian, well done to you and Chris for providing the fishing entertainment this year. All the best to you both for 2021 and look forward to watching more of your fishing videos. Take care and stay safe. Tight lines Charlie 🎣🎣🎣
Hi Phil it hasn’t been easy has it!!!! We went again on Monday absolutely perfect tide just after storm Bella not a sniff!!!! What is that all about???? Where are the cod???? Happy new year mate!!! Cheers ian
good to see both you and chris are still ok and still catching. i would like to thank you both for keeping us entertained and sometimes jealous the past year and hope you have a better one to come, hopefully we will get to meet up at some stage in "21 until then tightlines
Ah thanks Andy very kind words indeed! When you mention jealousy it’s obviously about my film star good looks 😂😂😂 Well 2021 can’t possibly be worse than last year can it?? Happy new year stay safe cheers ian
I’m keen to visit that beach at some point when restrictions allow. We had a family holiday in the area and the kids loved that we parked on the beach. It seems the eels are in numbers everywhere and not just here in the Solent. Tight lines and Happy New Year. 👍🏻
Hi Mark yes they are very active....on deep water marks I can understand it but Brean is so shallow they normally depart by November but I guess the sea is still very warm. The lack of cod in any numbers is very frustrating as have fished some perfect tides recently up here for little reward. We get (in a normal year) a spring run of cod and bass in March and April of good sizes so watch this space!😂😂😂 Happy new year cheers Ian
Another entertaining vlog, thank you Ian and Chris👍 Got out today, no worms - couldn't be bothered getting up at stupid o'clock in the snow and hail to pump them.... So mackerel and squid it was then! A dozen or so Whiting, no major size, just nice to see the tip bounce, haven't been out for 2.5mths! Happy New Year to you and Chris, and tight lines for 2021!
Hi Simon you probably are of the same opinion as we are...that it’s just fortunate we enjoy a pastime which enables us to stay sane in these troubled times!! Happy new year to you too cheers ian
Hi Ian, I love watching your videos. I have learnt lots. Having a caravan in brean and been a course angling. I quite fancy having a go at fishing brean down. I have invested in new rods and reels. But not sure what line to put on them, rigs and how to put lots of worm on a hook? Any information would much be appreciated. Keep up the good work 🎣🐳😎
Hi Mark fishing the beach at Brean is relatively easy no snags and a simple pulley rig will do perfectly…I have done a video of how to make it. A baiting needle makes putting multiple worms on the hook easy too. 18lb line is good! If you want to fish Brean Down it’s much harder…very snaggy I wouldn’t recommend it until you become competent at general sea fishing! Start on the beach ….from April onwards plenty of bass around!! Lugworm will catch them! Cheers ian
Hi Mike well if you know where they are I would be grateful!!! We went again Monday a perfect tide just after storm Bella and not a touch!!! If ever there was a tide to catch a cod........☹️☹️☹️ happy new year cheers ian
Hi Martin thanks for your kind words! The rods I use on Brean are very old Anyfish Anywhere rods rated 6-8 oz the actual model can’t remember and the writing on them has long since gone!! Probably a bit too powerful for a Sandy beach but they are indestructible! Have a great new year cheers ian
great video ian and a few eels , the cod seem to be like unicorns at the moment dont they but then this does happen every few years ! happy new year to you both and stay safe
What’s a cod???😂 Very few and far between this year unfortunately!! Still nice to get out and get a bend in the rod regardless of species!! Happy new year buddy cheers Ian
Ooh nice!! Lovely place to live!!! Unless you get caught in storm Bella or something similar!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Cheers Ian
Hi Martin that’s interesting....we did catch a few doubles around then it could be me I guess!! Unfortunately haven’t had one for 4 years.....However I can say with absolute certainty that on December 18th 2002 Chris had a 26lb cod from Brean beach and two nights later I had one of 21.5lb...never to be beaten I think!!! Cheers Ian
@@ianclarkfishing Definitely you with your son Jacob . If you like I can send you the photo. It's from "Improve your sea angling" . The fish looks bigger than your son.
Nice to hear from you Kevin!!! No we do have a few blanks but they don’t make good viewing though I have put a few poor trips on TH-cam before!!😂 Glad we have entertained you....happy new year cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing happy new year to you too. Really love the videos they have made me stick with the shore fishing through some frustrating sessions and now I seam to be catching a few fish, happy days keep it up
Another great session Ian, always wanted to fish bristol channel but due to current restrictions can't travel, hopefully one day in the near future.. Keep up the good work and Happy new year.
Hi Ian, a mate and myself are going to fish Brean beach next weekend. I would like to know, as we driving on the beach up to the first set of poles to fish, how high up does the tide come and how long do you take to get back? We in my Toyota Hilux.
Ok nice tide high at 530 pm you can begin fishing 230. Not sure when beach is shut to cars maybe 6pm?? You had better check! 11 metre tide you can park on the beach by the dunes no problem it’s only a minute’s drive to the poles from beach entrance. My main concern is the current weather forecast is appalling they saying 25-30mph sw winds it will not be fishable in that unfortunately!! I hope this changes for you…. The whiting have arrived and hopefully the cod are close behind!! Cheers ian
Hi Alex thanks for watching! Well many anglers on berrow fish with high rods but we generally keep them low for the following reasons. The large tides dictate usually fishing setback from the waters edge quite a long way so keeping rods low minimises the wind creating big bows in the line. As the vast majority of fish are taken at distance you rarely see subtle bites.....Invariably the bites are slack liners which are easy to see with low rods. Finally you don’t get neckache when they are below eye level!! When we fish say Chesil we will always have rods high up. Hopefully that explains our reasons!! Happy new year cheers Ian
@@ianclarkfishing Hi Ian, yeah that makes sense cause your using mono on a multiplier. I used to have multipliers but changed to fixed spool so I could use braid which gives good bite detection at distance. Cheers
Yes braid would be great on Brean for both bite detection and increased line capacity on reel. Never been brave enough to spool up my multiplier!!! Cheers Ian
Great video Ian good to watch during lockdown. Can you tell me for when I am allowed to fish there again how long are you there before high tide and do you reckon a bait pump will be any good for getting the lug
Hi Ken thanks for watching and taking the time to comment...glad you enjoyed it! To be absolutely safe you can fish for 3 hours before high...any earlier and you risk the very soft mud and sand getting you or your rigs stuck. With regards to pumping a friend tried it with little success as the consistency of the sand wasn’t good. They are easy with a fork. Cheers Ian
Hi Ryan thanks for watching and taking the time to comment glad you enjoyed the video! The beach is full of lug but pumping is difficult due to the consistency of the sand. The size is ok at Brean but a couple of miles south at Berrow they are definitely bigger. If we have time before a session we will dig at Berrow and fish at Brean, though Berrow is also good venue and just an extension of the beach at Brean.
Hi there well we both fished Monday afternoon absolutely perfect tide and conditions and not a sniff either!!! Just after storm Bella too!! I couldn’t believe it where are the cod???? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!!! Hope fishing improves soon! Cheers Ian
@@ianclarkfishing Thanks for taking the time to reply Ian. We fished up the other end, nearer Brean Down to get out of the wind a bit, is the fishing good all along the beach or is it better up the Burnham end?
Don’t really fish beyond Brean village hall but many fish Berrow towards Burnham. If the cod are in I think anywhere is good....they just ain’t there!!☹️
Hi mate nice to hear from you again!! Sorry don’t quite understand the question?🤷♀️ We have our own Mark on the beach which is a little drive from the entrance ramp. However you can’t drive down to the water as your car would be submerged by the fast incoming tide....the water probably covers over 800 yards in the three hours before high tide.

Well we have our own little areas we like....there are some very subtle dips and banks out there we try to concentrate on.....sometimes they work....,,,,😂
Hi mate....that was a medium height tide but was 10.8 m....a shallow beach like Brean means the sea comes in very very quickly...if you set up a few feet from the water line you are moving back every 5 minutes or even less...so we set up maybe 30 yards or so back until the sea reaches us then move back again....we can therefore stay in one spot for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. Hope that explains why we do that!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers Ian
Hi Shaun the beach is only open til 430 pm so we park on grass verge opposite Brean village hall and walk to beach to the right of it. You can fish 3 hours up and two down but you need to be a great caster on the ebb as the sea disappears quickly!!! Tide are massive in bristol channel, water comes in real quick! That is why people fish far from the water.

BERROW ? As a rough guess average ?
Also why is pumping hard there is
The sand to gritty its looks soft ?
3 to 4 inches I would think on average though it seems to change throughout the year
I’ve been told there bigger in the summer and easier to get
