  • More rain in the last 24 hours here in the Beulah Valley than we got all last spring and summer.

This storm was May 17th - 18th, 2021. The only real damage to our place was the washout on the road. A load or two of fresh road base should be all it takes to make repairs.

Glad you all made it through fine but sucks about that newly layed gravel though..

Yeah, the price for road base isn't bad, but the delivery fee is very high to bring it out.

      Just a thought Mr John.
If you have a small plow or disc...consider bagged Portland cement.
As you spread the base n get it pretty much where you need it, add a layer of dry cement powder on top. Mask up it's not good to breathe lol. Then plow it or disc it in good. Then just pack the base down as normal. It will set up on its own from ground moisture or you can spray wet it and pack it.
My driveway at the ranch is about 880ft to where I laid in reclaimed asphalt. I bought 2 pallet of bagged cement powder. Spread the base over layed in powder then plowed back n forth. Sprayed it w water then packed it w my dually loaded really heavy. That was 14 yrs ago. Haven't added any base since then. I think in real road work they call it soil cementing.

Nasty weather indeed, and hail in the shop is most unwelcome, at least in mine. Thanks for the video!

Glad you only had some minor damage. Stay safe. Seems to be that time of year. About an hour ago on a mostly sunny day here in Oakland California (in the hills) we just got some rain. Fairly heavy for 15 minutes, a shower but there are no clouds above us. Just weird.

John, hope things are clearing up for y'all! Hey, in addition to the gutter cleanouts, check & clear out the bottoms of your spouts and the 'arms' that go from the gutter to the wall. That's where clogs can form forcing water to fill up and shoot backwards out the seams :)
    Also, LOVE the drone footage!
    Take care and best wishes!

As he stated, the problem was not from an accumulation of debris, but the torrential amount of hail that fell, ice damming the system.

@@stanervin6108 Yeah, I definitely got that. I just run a gutter business and thought I might throw out the suggestion as an idea since we see similar issues weekly :) You never know sometimes, and I figure a little more info is always better than a little less.

I got 3.75" over the past few weeks here in Denver. Soil still on the over wet side. If only it would snow on the west slope - I don't want another year of smoke.

Afternoon thunderstorm here in south east queensland! Including the hail, big pain sometimes other times not so bad! Unusual where you are, so more of an issue!

Anything more than an inch is a lot of rain. Or annual average is about 20 inches

Sorry John ! I’d love some of that we’ve only got a few sprinkles in Iowa ... and my garden needs rain ... water from the house hose isn’t like rain ...

That sounds like our year last year. We were hot and dry from March through the summer

We need the rain here in NE Washington too, but not that much all at once! I’m curious, what kind of range do you have with that drone? Or did you move to several locations in that footage?

    • @JohnSwitzer
      @JohnSwitzer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's rated at 5.5 miles. But you also need to fly withing line of sight and I could never see it that far out. But all of these shots are within about 2,000 feet of the house. I just need to move around to see around various things that block my vision.

    • @pivers01

Wow! To see anything 10 times that size at more than a mile or two, it would have to be pulling a banner like you see being pulled by airplanes! Lol I had a cheap drone a couple years ago just to mess with, and it would stop responding and auto return to its take off point at about 150-200’ away. I did say it was cheap!! Lol
