Please dont if at all possible, You don't know how many people threw out the old Wurlitzer Jukebox mechanisms and replaced with CDs/digital now there are very few 45s left. So sad TVs I understand as bad as the older tubes were.
I am one of those people who love your videos btw! I don’t think personally the spray lacquer would look anywhere near as good as the finish on your other unit in the bedroom. Not being critical, just my opinion.
Almost like an episode of new Yankee workshop. Yes I know know how much that reference dates me lol Edit Doesn't removing the original finish devalue it? Or has that ship already sailed due to the damage?
This isn’t a 17th century desk or a custom made piece of furniture designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. A proper refinish can actually INCREASE the value on a set that’s badly faded and dinged up - this unit looks pretty bad in most lighting conditions. The real value in this piece comes from the depth and color the finish provides when paired with its art deco appearance.
The difference between sanding and stripping is that when you sand you not only take the lacquer film off but also some of the veneer. stripping in theory should take the film off (as well as the film that soaked into the grain) without touching the veneer. Acetone can help break it down before using the stripper to take it off. However you really, really don't want that stuff on your hands, and breathing it in is a major no and not something you should be so quick to dismiss. Even limited exposure can cause you a lot of health problems. There is no harm in using an orbital power sander on veneer within reason.
Death and cancer are inevitable - I’ve been painting, sanding, and stripping finishes without a mask and proper ventilation since I was about ten, same as my old man. I know the risks, and they are mine to take. Others may care more - To them, I highly recommend a mask and proper gloves and ventilation.
I said before you should go as Al Borland for Halloween and now a Binford shirt appears.
Nice 👍🏻😁
Can the cabinet be used as a retrofitted Rasberry Pirry Pi touchscreen stereo? Bluetooth. It could be better, but you're not looking to restore it.

The factory likely used a spray gun - I just don’t want to invest in the equipment.

The paint strippers I’m used to using are not for wood finishes - but could strip a battleship with ease.
