Jack, when I was your age, I was in Vietnam and trust me, I was homesick. I sometimes cried but when it was time to do my job, I just did it. You spent your entire life surronded by your family and friends and you have every reason to feel alone and a little frightened. To have a special spmeone your seperated from on top of that isn't an easy thing. Hang in there. Trust me, it will all be over sonner than you think.

Jack, I left home when I was 18 years old to go into the military. I went through a lot of what you are going through. Live the moment, know that you are there with an end in sight, make friends, get into the job and do your best, and before you know it the time there will be over and you WILL walk away with a lot of good memories if you choose to embrace the people around you and enjoy those moments there and create memories.

Hey Jack. I'm 52 now, but when I was like 43 I had to go to India on a business trip, just for a week. Now I travelled the world before this, but that trip was hard. I actually cried when I got there as culturally it was like nothing I had ever experienced. I could not get out of that place quick enough. Now as I look back and remember the memories I had in just that week I wish I had not felt like that, because that country, those people, the things I saw, I learnt and enjoyed were some of the best I have had. I just did not realize it at that time. I think if i had stayed another 2 weeks I would have gotten past that. My point is, your not 44, you a young man with his life in front of him. Everything you love about home will still be there. Use this time to grow as a person my man, you will thank yourself for it later.

Been there and still have waves of incredible homesickness. For those who have had more transitions - whether TCK (third culture kid which I think boat culture would be a subset of), military, ministry, or displaced - I think homesickness is a part of it.
Mackenzie is right - it’s a grief in this world you just have to feel. It’s part of living.
And the yearning to be with M compounds it all 100x!!! I remember that well even 25 yrs later now! The yearning, the desiring, the waiting…it’s a gift even today after 24 yrs of marriage - hard to describe it. Especially during relational tough times it’s like glue.
You are ok - you are naming the losses; keep naming the griefs.
Huge hug! Hug your sister! Cry together. You’ll be ok.

It’s normal bro. I was 17 when I left home and we all go through it. It’s the transition between relying on others and being your own man…and we aren’t all tough…it’s a big facade. Just be chill and know that time passes quicker than you think…and you’ll be back home and you’ll want to be back there in Tonga. And by the way you are already showing maturity by posting this and being true. You are a great guy.

      @KingOfFvckingEverything 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, but I believe he’s overthinking everything he’s saying. Almost ro the point it gets irrational thinking.
He’s in tings with his sister - alone for the first time in his life, with no safety met like family or anything. However he has friends in that island. I feel like he’s nit taking the time to just live in the moment and slice the day, enjiy the other people instead of moping around.
Feelings are good but there’s a fine line between overthinking and just reflecting.
In this situation, it’s quiet simple. He’s away from his family for the first time, his new girlfriend as well.
But he can’t let that stop him from moving on, growing up, Everyone will most likely be at home when he gets back anyway.
It’s nit a healthy thing to be homesick at his age. To this degree. As long as he doesn’t pull others down with him when he’s moody, vulnerable. That’s what I mean by him overthink things, making things harder for himself instead of just see his new suituatiin as it is, and embrace it, Grab all the experiences and enjoy the locals company.
Six months is nothing.he will have all the time in the world when it’s time for the next adventure.
You can’t live in “what could have been”. You accept your situation and make the bets out of it.
Life is shirt and unpredictable so it’s just embracing every opportunity that you find interesting.

Oh dear.. I just read about his friend who passed away on the island shortly after this clog was uploaded.
That would hit him and Kate very hard. I can’t even begin to imagine how JJ’s family are coping.. That young man was scheduled for He allegedly died whilst with friends out free diving. that kid was no stranger to that or those waters,
So very tragic. I don’t know why anyone onboard didn’t watch out for the free divers.
I just hike they didn’t push each other too hard. That’s always a worry for me when I see young guys. There’s often a completion who’s the best at something and they take unnecessary risks they normally wouldn’t to show off.

From someone who made a rash decision when i was 17 after being homesick and then regretting that decision for the rest of my life as it majorly affected my relationship with my mum in particular (I was in the Navy - left after general training rather than seeing it for what it was as a great maturing and growing opportunity) - no two days are ever the same and especially for you and Kate given Boat Life is all you have ever really known. You are alot more mature and forward thinking than you realise mate, so don't lose sight of an incredible chance to learn about yourself in a unique environment, but also a really cool chance to further develop your relationship with Kate more who prob shares alot of your feelings at the moment. Looking forward to episode 2 of the 'Jack & JJ Sparky' sitcom in the next video!! Keep doing you Jack, we appreciate you

It's good that you shared your thoughts with us and it is very healthy to talk bout these things. Your parents have exposed you to a wonderful life and you're going to do great things and they're going to be very proud of you. Keep your chin up, you're going to be fine.

Thank you for being honest. I have struggled a lot in my live and didn‘t even always have the strength to stand up. I find it great that you go through it and don‘t give up! You have a great support system in your close nit family. Use it, and especially Kate, because she is close location wise. She can feel best if it becomes more than struggle - might or might not happen. You are already a great guy. That‘s for sure! And going through this experience will make you an even better man for your future wife. And it will make McKensey stronger through her own struggles with the situation and all.
Thanks again, man for sharing! It helps others who go through hard times!

hugs jack. change is hard. I'm sure when you first got on the boat to live that it was hard from being used to living in a house. time will help. you are allowed to be human and feel what you feel. but know that you may be in a different place and not with your family and things may be different BUT the one thing that hasnt changed is us watching you and supporting you from a far. I look forward to seeing all your adventures and growth.

Awww. 🥰 A real man can share his emotions like you did. I know Mom and Pop are so proud of you! Your time there will go by so fast so soak in the memories and remember that this too is helping to define your future(s) for you and Kate. College was similar for me. Even 2 months in I was just homesick and questioning everything but it all helped me figure on and work out the future- keeping my goals in mind for my life. You got this!!! Hope you feel better!

Wow, thank you for sharing Jack. I have so much respect for you for doing that. It's normal to be homesick. You spent so much time in an intimate small space with your family over the years that of course you're missing them.
Learn all you can in this chapter of your life. It will be over before you know it.

Yep. You are out in the real world now, trying to find your way without everything your parents provide for you. You are already ahead having their guidance, support and love in your arsenal. Good to express your feelings, just avoid feeling too sorry for yourself. You are privileged. Time to make new friends, time to build your independent identity. Not easy, but essential. #youredoingfine !!!

It’s natural to be homesick and you’re smart learning to sit with it plus knowing it will pass. *The best way to make yourself immediately feel better is to volunteer or help others in need.* Worse thing to do is to self medicate with any alcohol or weed. Just take one day at a time and *be present* instead of in your head. Make it a point to be curious and learn about the local’s culture and unique surroundings, stay busy, be creative, and find moments of joy every day. Maybe talk to a therapist (via Better Help) if you can’t *adapt*. It would be good to share feelings and have a professional guide you if needed. You’re an amazing young man Jack and learning how to adapt to any situation will help you throughout your life. 💙

Hi! There is no code for being a man. Just be you. You have an awesome family. Having those emotions show how much you value your family. I’m 55 and I have lost my sister, mom, stepmother and last summer my father. The longing to relive my time with them is tough. From the glimpse we see into you all lives it’s easy to see why you would be homesick. Keep yourself grounded in the present. Enjoy your adventures and you will enjoy those moments again with your family.

You’re a good kid, Jack. Thank you for being real about your feelings. Whether you’re in Tonga or Dallas, these feelings are all normal for being out on your own in a foreign place for the first time. Hold onto your faith and all the lessons you’ve learnt from your experiences, and choose to make the most from this unique opportunity to shine your light on this little spot in the middle of the ocean. You have a lot of prayers being prayed over you and your sister from all over the world!
