For a number of years I would tell my co-workers about this as I remembered it like it was five minutes ago. I was so excited to see this on the news because I had bought "Jack Your Body" and so now people in another country would be able to buy it too. And here is the even cooler thing: eight years later - in July of 1994 to be precise - I was transferred to England (enlisted in the Air Froce, and this was to be my second duty station). I got to experience the UK club scene and Jack My Body some more! :D
Not wanting to be pedantic but it wasn't until January/start of February 1987 that Jack Your Body shot to number 1 in the UK,so that news item cannot have been from 1986. Love Can't Turn Around by Farley Jackmaster Funk already became a hit over here in the later part of summer 1986,though,and was the first track to be called House Music to do so. Funnily enough,Jack Your Body was very nearly disqualified from the singles chart because of the rules regarding eligible formats.
In 1986...... I WAS 17 Y.O. ! WELL INTO HOUSE MUSIC ! AND LIVING IN CHICAGO ! WENT TO GAGE PARK HIGH... BUT HOUSE PARTYed AT MENDEL HIGH SCHOOL ! STILL STRONG IN CHICAGO TO THIS DAY ! ! ! I WAS A TURNTABLE D.J. BACK THEN. I AM NOW A CERTIFIED, BONAFIDED LAPTOP CONTROLLER D.J. ! AND THIS IS FRESH !
Anyone else think it’s cool that a south side movement was blowing up in the UK in 1986? I’m thankful the UK got a taste because they took that genre and created new ones. It’s a shame that wasn’t the case for Chicago.
+Manuel Monge it's still happening! 20 year olds are even making pretty "traditional" house, this guy for instance is totally kickin soundcloud.com/sweelymusic
If it didn't reach until January 1987, then it is true and correct to say that the news report was from 1986 since the song came out in the summer of '86.
In the summer of 86 Jack Your Body was being played heavily on Chicago radio station WBMX in Farley Keith mixes & by other members of the Hot Mix 5. My friend was a DJ & I remember him going to the city on the train & buying that record. He would play the shit to death down in his basement practicing for gigs! I may not remember every detail of my teen years but that I remember well. I left for the Army in July 86 & took taped BMX mixes with me. I still have a couple tapes that have survived the last 30+ years & the song is in one of the mixes.
UK is more or less irrelevant in the early history of house music as it is a 100% American thing, originating in Chicago and to some extent New York. Jack your body came under the label Underground in 1986. I got to give credit to the brits for one thing tho: taking credit for things they didn't invent.
... and without kraftwerk 'be' no techno. Stop trying to categorize art by race and pretending that it's literally a black-and-white thing. And also, stop taking credit for something because people with your skin colour invented it - you didn't do shit except play Call of Duty, it seems.
This video is from the 80’s yet the man at 1:56 said that you can make it high pitched “like the chipmunks” which usually refers to Alvin and the chipmunks
Pretty sure NO! It was Detroit Techno, and Chicago House that was then taken by the Europeans. But, it was very much so a black invention, as with all good, funky, soulful, jazzy music.
@@househeadtwo5509 Euros stole the blueprint laid down by black artists from Detroit. It’s a whitewashed issue. Credit should be given to the true originators. And, White euros need to sit back down and stop dominating the world with their egos and hegemony.
I don't think she was hating at all. It was objective new dialogue. She's still active in Chicago media. Just moved on from being on air. Supposedly she dated one of the Chicago Bulls during their 90s run.
This video is a real historical treasure...
Prophetic!
I hope there are South Africans watching this.🇿🇦 Because wow. 🙌🏿

somrazy3 Straight Outta Compton was a biopic about the group NWA. Not the history of rap music.
somrazy3 yes!!!!
WBMX back in the late 80's couldn't do no wrong. Chicago definitely back then had one of the top 5 best club scenes in the country, if not the world.

Seen this so many times and after 33 years NorthWestern still trying to stop their losing streak.

yeah youre right, we brits took your amazing chicago house and ran with it.. House Music all night long. God bless You and all ravers
Chicago went on to create ghetto house, footwork, and juke.
i am 23 yo, and i 100% prefer old school house than that Avicii-Calvin Harris-David Guetta- top 40 shit!
+Manuel Monge no

+Manuel Monge To me, the sound of their music is closer to trance. The definition of house music has become pretty bastardized over the years though
Lmao, I'm 16 and in the same boat!

Interesting times for music.
1:38 what synth is that? Where can I find that bass?
That is an Oberheim OB8. I used that keyboard on many classic House Music tracks back in the day...
Master Jack era de mentalidad muy avanzada a su epoca.
Epic!
Wow. If it takes off the way everybody believes it will. Certainly more than what I expected, but in a good way. I also miss Joan Esposito.

Please share the title & artist. I'd like to hear it.
Can we get a Track ID??????
Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, OMD and New Order inspirered House and Techno
True, but so did countless disco, funk, and even hip hop artists.
That’s just not true, it was Americans who introduced techno and house to Germany

1 song of video?
Yep
without house music be no edm no dubstep and techno thanks to my people not yours mind
dupstep from dub. dub from reggae
+ws s reggae from ska, ska from rnb, rnb from blues, ...
I could sure do without edm and dubstep. Early Detroit techno and Chicago house are awesome.

Flers Stirn he means the people of Chicago music our house music get used to hearing that race baiter
does he just lift farley at 1:40?

This video is from the 80’s yet the man at 1:56 said that you can make it high pitched “like the chipmunks” which usually refers to Alvin and the chipmunks

THE KING ( GODFATHER ) OF HOUSE MUSIC.......
FARLEY JACKMASTER FUNK !
Alvin and the Chipmunks started out in the late 50's.
So England made it go national? I'm asking for research purposes. I'm a librarian and I want to get house music information in my library.

Techno music originated in detriot
There was electro music before this scene ie Kraftwerk from ( Germany)
