I watch a lot of music on TH-cam and I repeatedly make the mistake of reading comments. It seems a lot of people think every band/band member is underrated!?!
I basically spent my youth at the Club where the "Mirror People" he writes about were. Daniel Ash was dating a woman from Columbus Ohio and she would hang out at Crazy Mama's. The coolest punk club ever! He wrote this song about the club, and it's dance floor that was flanked by floor to ceiling Mirrors. Some people in altered states of consciousness would often dance the entire night and stare at themselves in their own trippy world. Some would congregate and sit along the floor in front of the mirrors to watch all the dancers. The club was usually pack with tons of unique dance styles. It was THE place to be in the late 70's to late 80's! Often alt/punk bands would hit the club after a show too. I remember seeing The Cult in Concert on OSU's campus and later saw them show up at Mama's! Great memories from a great place! Love and Rockets Rock!
@@michellericker3972 I can confirm this is about Crazy Mama's. The woman's name is Kathy. She went to my high school but they met in England when she was modeling. Both of them are credited for the Express album art (although I think there was someone else driving the art direction based on the symbology). I knew her a little bit but I knew a close relative more. There have been a lot of other interesting things that have circulated, such as if she was the inspiration for So Alive (not sure based on something Danny said in an interview), if she was the model on a Tone on Tail record (I _think_ so but don't remember for sure), etc. I admit I'm interested in trivia but kind of plug my ears about gossip because it's not my business. I used to hang out on Mama's occasionally but spent most of my time at Mustards. Bands used to come in there all the time, too. Trent Reznor / Nine Inch Nails toured constantly and came in one night after playing at the Newport. My friend hung out with him for a little bit - and he signed his little black book and left a phone number. He was too nervous to call it, though. :) Speaking of the Newport and the Cult, I still have my t-shirt from the Love tour somewhere. I have more stories but I'm getting off the subject. Thanks for bringing this up. Lately I've regretted how invested I was in aspects of that lifestyle back then, but this has really brought back a lot of good memories.
There's something so intoxicating and sexy about this song. Earth Sun Moon will forever be my favorite Love and Rockets album. Can't wait to see them live next month! Such an underrated and amazing band, that clearly influenced a lot of 90s alternative groups to follow.
@@valeya Yes, it was a fantastic show at a beautiful, ornate old 1920s style theater in Brooklyn. The set was fantastic with a fairly equal selection from nearly all their albums, with some deeper cuts among the singles. The energy was electric and the stage design was very psychedelic and fitting of their music and vibe. The whole band was in top form, excellent musicianship and stage presence (even if they wore sunglasses the whole time). They just exude cool.
They were on a bill with Janes Addiction and others on a tour in the 90’s and I bought a ticket because of them and they didn’t show up that night...so consider yourself lucky!
The mirror people one day shall be free The mirror people laugh at you and laugh at me The mirror people, know not how to cry So they scream, the mirror people scream inside Because I could be nothing at all Because I should be nothing at all I wish I could be nothing at all I wish I could be nothing at all
If memory serves me, this was inspired by Ash going to a club in Columbus, Ohio called Crazy Mamas, featured a lot of floor to ceiling mirrors of course.
You're 100% correct! Mama's was my home away from home. Spent every night I could there. Daniel was dating a girl from C-bus who would frequent Crazy Mama's!
Love it!!!! I have this tendency to share good songs. Question has anyone else had this problem with Facebook? "Goes against there standards", please give me a break!, anyway love it ❤❤
I think goth is dead, thanks to the cybergoths and capitalism, but the music and the soul still lives on even today. Theres some pretty great postpunk bands goong on lately!
Saw them in ‘89 for the Earth. Sun. Moon. tour. hahahahahaha they were fucking awesome! Too bad so sad for all the losers who didn’t get a chance to see them.

Daniel Ash is an extremely underrated song writer
You are absolutely right... !!! Daniel, has a rare gift and he's also underrated as a singer, as well.
You have no idea of what a song writer is.
That's your opinion.

Loved, loved, loved this band! I saw them in 1988. Echo & The Bunneymen opened. Freaking excellent show!
I was at that show in Boston, Orpheum Theatre!
i am almost 48 and this song still makes me feel young and dancing on the outside world of love and shadows
Tengo 48 y me pasa lo mismo....
I still want to feel like that when (if) I make it to 80. You're never too old to feel young!
55 and bopping around
Music is a high-tech time machine!! We all remember and travel back to the past...
i am 65 love this band
This guys fuzz sound is beyond. It just sounds like a mix between a b17 and a chainsaw.
2024, still rockin' it.
Saw them open for Siouxsie in 86 in los Angeles

I meant Porno for Pyros!!
This is a better mix than the album version
it is however I prefer the "slow" version due to the DEEP bass synth
