The Angles Way Long Distance Trail. Part 5 - Diss to Knettishall. Hike and Riverside Wild Camp.

- In this video I am back out on the trail completing the final leg of the Angles Way on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, a long distance trail stretching for 96 miles from Great Yarmouth to Thetford and following the rivers Waveney and Little Ouse.
Leaving the market town of Diss, I head through a beautiful landscape of wetland fens, heathland, woodland and alongside wide open swathes of the East Anglian countryside basking in the Autumn sunshine.
After a glorious 18 miles, I reach my camp spot in Knettishall, roughly half way along this section of the trail. Home for the night is a simple tarp and bivy bag next to the river and after a filling dinner and a couple of medicinal rums, I am out like a light, ready for tomorrows adventure.
I hope you enjoy the video,
Thanks for watching.

That cow was like, "what fence".
I saw that. I thought, isn't that fence supposed to keep them all in one place 😅
I noticed that too!!
Hold my Steer!
You know, Simon, I always like it when you take those trails throughout the English countryside. They are so relaxing to watch and helpful for learning when you talk about the different areas. Keep up the great work. It’s much appreciated.
Simon, I always like videos of your trek through the woodlands and the quaint little villages. Sixty four years ago I came to England as a young boy and left a man. While watching your videos I can smell the air I once enjoyed while in England. I have so many memories of Suffolk Co., London, Great Yarmoth and ETC and they all com back to me when I see "Simon, a Bloke in the Woods" has a new video. I am too old to do any hiking but have my memories. Thank you for getting an old man through another day of memories.
You may not be a teacher any more Simon but you are teaching us a lot about the beauty of the outdoors. Just buckle up a rucksack and go for a nice big walk. Thanks a lot!. Cheers, Henk.
Great video. Thanks for keeping it real when so many others have turned into what are basically one big advert for various companies.
Okay, I was bingeing Simon’s videos this morning. I hit this as soon as it popped up. So good to see this bloke again. That cow coming through that fence… Some farmer has some pretty cattle, healthy and well fed. Obviously, they come through fences to eat wherever they choose.
Simon, I had plantar fasciitis for two years. Did the massaging, the ball rolling, the leaning on the wall stretching, the ibuprofen, finally, the Dr. Scholl’s insoles, from Walmart, worked. Trying to favor your bad foot will definitely affect other parts of your supporting structures, ankles, knees, hips and back. I did anesthesia until retirement. We had a tongue in cheek mantra, “Pain is your friend”. My point is, pay attention to your body’s pain. Stop when your pain says, “Stop”.
I’ve been carrying a chair for 45 years. My hiking buddies have never said a word negative about it. I use a stool and hang it outside the pack, kinda pushed inward, over the top, to hang snuggly in place. That way, I just lift it off, whenever, sit and rest. Now, I’m an old man and it’s my friend…
Good to see you again. Thank you for sharing this adventure…from an old man in the US, hills of east Tennessee.
Thank you Jeff! I have those very same insoles, in fact I’ve just ordered a second pair so I don’t forget again!
These walks are my favorite, especially when they are somewhat local to you. Thanks so much for the walk and all the time and effort you put into filming it for us. I greatly appreciate the care and detailed editing you take to set up the shots/segments that add a pleasant flow to your presentations. You are the Grand Master of the walk and the paddle, which makes your videos timeless and can be watched and enjoyed repeatedly.
Thank you!
Just came to tell you that your videos are my favourite! The way you film makes it like I’m right there with you. Thank you for sharing this amazing journey with us!

Really enjoyed that. What I like is that you have a bit of background on points of interest along the way.
I logged in again just to say high, nice walk I really enjoyed.I have to say you're the best Simon, I feel you really looks like you miss Maggie a lot. Peace, sorry! I brought this up, but we can't never forget our fury friend.
I just lost my fur baby a week ago. I'm so glad Simon posted. His videos are so peaceful. It helps with my loneliness

Thanks for a lovely hiking video! It gives me a chance to see the wonderful countryside and I agree...nothing better than finding a nice cosy hideaway to spend the night. Thanks, Simon! Looking forward to your next one.

Simon, I really like the videos from the series "The Angles Way", they are my favorites, with long walks. 🇵🇹
nice to see you back simon a1 plus vid
There's a lot of backtracking in 16 miles. Thanks you Simon & well done.
My tracking/mapping app said 18 miles by the time I stopped, but I reckon a couple of miles of that was filming related! 😂👍
@@simonablokeinthewoods Exactly, I thought 16 + backtracking would mean more than an extra 2 miles. All with a poorly foot too !
hi Simon, I've been following your channel for quite some time now and I think you make wonderful videos, I especially like these long walks you take and you're good at telling stories as well. hope you continue for a long time to make nice videos, greetings from Norway🙂👍
Thank you!
Such a beautiful land. And so generous with walking trails.
Nice to see you out and about again lovely countryside walk, love watching your videos
Fantastic as always. Just what I needed on a long day. On to Andy's video now 👍
Simon I suffered with plant fasciitis for years, in the end I gave in and had injections, iv never looked back I got instant relief. Maxx
Firstly, fantastic video as usual Simon, secondly as a plantar fasciitis sufferer myself doing around 30,000 steps a shift and a long suffering scout leader you need to get yourself a hockey ball to roll around under your feet. Worked absolute wonders for me.
Great Wednesday video from Simon I'm watching with a beer and bacon rolls thanks for sharing this amazing video Simon 👍
I love hearing your footsteps…it’s so much better than music ☺️ The little historical bits are quite interesting as well 😊 An absolute pleasure to watch! Thank you Simon!
Great video Simon , ever since we seen you with Andy we enjoyed your videos also . Thanks
Cheers Simon it's always good to see parts of this beautiful island that you don't know. Perfect hiking weather and you managed to make a comfortable camp in not great conditions, that's always a sign of someone who's got the skills. Many thanks for sharing, best regards from North Wales ❤
You always have such beautiful music in your videos 🌲🏕
Thank you Simon. I really needed this peaceful adventure. My heart is heavy but you made it lighter.
Hi Simon. Awesome video!! I absolutely loved the windmill!! Great job videoing the scenery!! I always love it when you tell the history and name where you are!! Really looking forward to seeing part 2!! So happy that you are back!!😊😊😊😊
Another great video Simon. Thanks for taking us along👍
Always a treat! Thanks Simon!
Great content, loved the cinematography, always ❤
I was suffering from policeman’s heal as it’s called here , I give in with mine and called the doctors, some very strong anti inflammatory tablets later and a trip to a physio mine cleared up completely.. and no issues on my last big hikes up in north wales 🏴, great little camping spot you found there. See you on the next one ☝️
I always absolutely enjoy your content. It's so well edited and your personality reminds me of my high school friend.
At 19:40 cow: "what the heck you looking at?"
Finally a long awaited video, have been waiting a long time for a new adventure from you.
Hi. You really have become a very good film maker. The shots and editing are really slick.
Great vlog mate. All the best, Jonny.

Good to see you back mate. Looking forward to part 2.
That stock proof fence, cow says ‘hold my beer’.
😂😂
Another great video Simon, love the scenery. I feel bad that you have pain when your walking. Thank you for taking all of us along with you on your adventures. Wish I was there!
❤Lydia, from USA
I love your zest for life Simon👍. What a beautiful walk. The landscape is lovely. Thank you for taking us along. Take care
Ive really missed these videos. So calming and its where im at peace, in the English countryside. Im very fortunate in that my 3 boys ( in their 30s) and i fairly regularly walk bridleways and footpaths usually between 15 and 20 miles with obligatory pub lunch with a couple of pints. Blokey humour, piss taking, whats not to like? All 3 of them are subbed to your site and they really enjoy your videos. Youve inspired us to get spendy with wild camping clobber, weve not started yet but its imminent. Please keep 'em coming. My therapy😂 Edit. Looking at many of the comments here i reckon youre responsible for improving the mental health of at least dozens of people.
Cheers Simon been watching long time, now I've been walking enjoying the countryside. Building up to a camping trip....some day.
Love seeing this slide of Norfolk thank u
Thought of u a few weeks ago as we were in Thetford for the weekend, went to the Dad's Army museum and Framlingham Castle.
Beautiful part of the world.
Nice! It’s a lovely part of the world isn’t 😁
@@simonablokeinthewoods certainly is love
I’m going to watch this as soon as I get home
Very enjoyable video, Simon.
Good luck with your foot/ heal.
I'm also suffering with the same condition. It bloody hurts! Well done.
Great to see you back Simon.just love your river walks and camps.miss these 👍
Thanks for sharing this, Simon!
God knows where I know you from mate. Cdo logs, RM Poole or Selection. Either way, really enjoy these vids, love the tone. Excellent messaging and example of how we can reconnect with the countryside and wilderness post military in a healthy way. Keep up the brilliant work. Who dares wins!
Lovely to see you again and the beautiful Norfolk/Suffolk countryside.
Lovely video as always Simon, love your chuckle!
I feel your pain (quite literally!) with the PF, I've had it myself and it's horrible. Not tried insoles for it so must have a look at that, the one positive for me is after my last bout I got back in to cycling after many years away as I could do that with no discomfort.
Looks like a lovely route, I love river walks. I live near the confluence of the Avon Water and the Clyde in Scotland, so lots of options around here.
Simon It's always a pleasure to go hiking with you. Thanks for taking us along..
Loved the video and cant wait for the next one! take care and stay safe!
Very very good Simon fabulous countryside great walk. You are so good at putting the videos together. Well done looking forward to the next part of the walk. Take Care. Cheers. B. K.
loved the video the scenery brought back memories from my childhood i moved from Norwich 50 years ago and still remember the walks i had with my mum and dad
Lovely trek and overnight . I feel your pain with plantar fasciitis. It does improve with the right foot support. Take care and enjoy your time outdoors ❤️
Another great video simon, I love your walking/ camping videos there so relaxing. Great to see you back again.
Simply wonderful!!
Another Brilliant,and informative video 🇬🇧
Wonderful, thank you!
Thank you for this series on Angle’s Way. It’s been a few years since I lived in East Anglia and it’s nice to see it’s not changed too much.
I am a daily walker and had that problem in my foot for a while. I had shockwave therapy on my foot and oh my goodness it worked a treat . Also rolling a tennis ball under your arch helps too
Been waiting for this next instalment of this walk. I watch the first 4 parts regularly. The Angles Way has been my favourite out of the other walks you’ve done.
Another great showcase of the marvellous countryside we have in East Anglia. The Angles Way is on the list for a couple of friends and me in spring 2025.
Keep the videos coming @Simon. More campfire cooking would be great as well, although I appreciate on this one it wasn’t practical. 👍🏻😀
What a wonderful video Simon!! So laid back and such a nice walk! A great diversion from the political chaos here in the States! Thanks so much for taking the time to make it and share your hike with us!
Excellent video Simon - was last in Diss in 1996 - happy days - please keep them coming 👍
That looked a nice relaxing walk.
Nice place. Fantastic trip
Take care of that foot Simon. We want to accompany you, even though vicariously, for years to follow! (So glad to see you out there making videos that incorporate a bit of camping again!)
Good to see you back. 👍
Hi from Ireland. I occasionally suffer from plantar f as well. The advice my physio gave me a few years ago now was definitely no inserts. She says inserts contribute to making the problem worse. Her advice was get a tennis ball and while sitting watching TV or whatever roll the tennis ball underfoot. Maintain a little pressure on it. Do it regularly every evening or whenever your sitting for fifteen minutes or so. I found it worked a treat. The symptoms faded away andviv had very little trouble since. If I feel symptoms returning I resume the tennis and it settles down again.. try it.
Great to see you back on your walks what a fantastic vlog with some amazing country side
Watch yourself in Suffolk. Things get a bit strange over that border. They’ve got some rum old ways out there.
😂😂😂
Once again a very well done pit of video work sir. The Angles Way seems to be a great way to see England on foot. BTW I got my shirt a few weeks ago, really like it, great color. Stay safe.
Simon, you do make a very good guide, describing your local lands, so thank you. Most enjoyable.
Enjoyed that thanks very much
Awesome and outstanding as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along.
As someone with plantarphansitas I know the pain. I should look into the inserts you minchond. Great video as always.
Loved it pal..... Over way too soon😉👌
Always enjoy seeing the beautiful scenery and I always enjoy your content. So peaceful and relaxing. Thank you for taking us along! Sorry to hear about your foot pain. Hope you get some relief quickly. Take care and be safe! Looking forward to your continued adventures! ❤😊
Instant like.
Very enjoyable videos as always 👍🔥
