      I am "Brown" Soviet.
I was kind of a rich kid.
My grand-ma use to hide ALL the food, b/c she was terrified that somene would rsport her to KGB (if she has anything in the table).
      I had bananas & oranges/lemons... maybe 1ce a year. & chocolates & meat...
My less lucky friends didnt ever taste an orange or bananas.
It was all Potatoes & Beets & Cabbage...
Berries & mushrooms you can pick up in forest.
      *
My mom didnt even had the winter coat or boots.
I am still crying b/c I lost my mom's boots, which cost her like her 2-3 monthly salaries. And we had to wake up at 4-5 am to get to the store.
I thought, my mom will kill me.
And she just said, "it's ok. I've never had the winter boots".
(I lost her 2-3 month salary & we stood in the line for hours... ).

Cubans who make it here are indeed the best type of people. They live life how most of us aspire to. They are strong, courageous, kind, and grateful. I had the honor of going through recruit training with a Cuban born man, he barely spoke English, his family was worried he would be deported for attempting to enlist and he did it anyway because wanted to serve to earn his citizenship. He was an inspiration to our entire platoon. The DIs attacked me for snickering when they found out his story, they thought I was laughing because he couldn’t speak English, I was laughing because it took them a month to figure it out. They thought he was a mid decent who was slow to follow orders. He was top tier, he just had to wait for us to translate what he needed to do. The funniest thing was he was an admin clerk, we used to joke that’s why our orders were messed up, but we knew he was just that confident he could learn English in a few months, he did. It was always great to run in to my Cuban friend and here about how well he was doing.

I met a woman years ago that was from Russia. Her parents and her escaped from Russia and moved to Cuba. Then, they escaped from Cuba to America. She told me that people in America will eventually have to escape from America, but where are they going to go?
17 years ago, I left America and moved to Thailand and have watched as America had deteriorated. I have been in Thailand for so long that I will only come back to America when I have to. It's not that I don't love America, but I have a nice life there that I don't want to give up. My income goes a lot further there than it can in America. When you live on retirement, it's hard to live on half or less of what you were making when you were working full time. If things keep going the way they have been going over the last 4 years, retired people will not be able to keep up with the economy. If I were to move back to America, I would probably be living in a broken-down van under an overpass in Arizona. In Thailand, I have a 3 bedroom 3 bath condo in Bangkok that cost me $300.00 a month. I have a good life in Thailand and don't want to give it up.
