I heard the first time of Cynthia Erivo in the musical "the color purple" and the song i'm here pulls my socks off !!! I cried a river 🙈 and than with stand up ! Just SHIVERS !!!! stunning !!!
My first time learning who Cynthia Erivo was is also from the color purple musical. I was in NYC on a school field trip in 2016 and I didn’t even know that The Color Purple Revival was on Broadway. (I only knew of the select few shows that I already had set to see as a first timer and also just didn’t know many musicals yet) One of my best friends’ moms just told us one day out of the blue that she was sending us to see the color purple that night… like in an hour and a half. We were beyond hyped that we were going to see Jennifer Hudson. Her mom was like “I hear this Cynthia Erivo is the big hype on Broadway rn” Boy was she ever right. Our jaws were dropped from beginning to end from the entire cast. I remember leaving and saying, “Now THIS is broadway” I still have my ticket and playbill with Danielle Brooks’s autograph 😁
i appreciate your sentiment re: shoshana's capacity to deliver a lyric -- she speaks straight from her heart, and it's so palpable when she sings. one of my favorite things about her.
I love your reactions! It takes a lot to be as open as you are and still explain what’s going on - thank you for making the music more accessible! Fanboying like mad here. 🤩
Nice ladies...when I first heard this in the cartoon movie...oh my emotions of the mind, body and soul, then Whitney and Mariah sang this on Oprah, oh my gosh the full inner and outer being experience that is soul cleansing...tino ataahua tenei waiata.....this song is beautiful❤
I would LOVE to see your reaction to The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot. He just passed away yesterday. (I'm Canadian, and he is an iconic folk singer/songwriter). This song is one of the most haunting ever written, and it's about a true story. It's basically a sea shanty combined with detailed storytelling and poetry. I know you would love it.
both are new to me>> great song, the vocals lyrics performances, perfect for this time of year. esp with all thats going on in the world right now.. thank you
Oh my goodness, this song reminds me so much of the liveliness I could hear in negro spirituals, the mini records my father played on the pickup box when I was about 8 years old. Since singing in church, my father was a minister, was without any flowery side effect, and I, of the same age, asked some church-members, after service: "Why is life outside the church so different from life in the church?" those records with church services for black people, clapping hands, cheering, and chanting "Hallelujah" was the best medicine for my waiting for an answer to that question in church. Eyes looked at me, but mouths never spoke. I'm speaking of the end of the fifties. It's different now, in those churches 😌 HALLELUYAH! 😊
how are you. Dear Ms Bethany. Don't crying you . two lady singer's very beautiful, super great voice musiction's , endless God bless you. lovely singer.
It's wonderful to see you someone so passionate about their chosen craft, and to be able to break down the singing techniques very simply for your everyday fellow.....I wish I could sing, but it scares the dog unfortunately, ...
Side-Note: I really like (Bethany) The Vocalyst's format of allowing her viewer's an uninterrupted initial listen / appreciation of the song's intro; then going back to the segments with vocal observations.
Cynthia did an amazing two part interview with Terrell on his channel by the same name. I didn't think I could love Cynthia anymore, and then I heard the interview.
This review reminded me that I first heard this song done by Celtic Woman. What do you make of that group, particularly the original 5, Chloë Agnew, Órla Fallon, Lisa Kelly and Méav Ní Mhaolchatha, and fiddler Máiréad Nesbitt?
Could you possible take a listen to Corinne Drewery, the lead singer from the jazz-pop group Swingout Sister? I think she has a wonderfully lush singing voice.
Oh Beth I love this song too and that was a very beautiful version. Although it's a little bit bizarre that they all seem to be dressed like it's washing day ! Not that I can talk I suppose. I am familiar with this song because Lucy Thomas ( at 17 ) and her younger sister Martha ( at 11 ) did a version that you might like to have a look at some time. It might bring you to tears as well perhaps but for different reasons. Maybe because of the "innocence of youth" element rather than the "voice of experience". I'm sure that this is a live recording because Martha does a little bit of performance ad libbing you might say and it makes Lucy's eyes go wide. Can't mime that ! th-cam.com/video/q4SPW9mk2ro/w-d-xo.html And as you love vocal agility you might like to have a look at Eltasya Natasha from Indonesia. Her voice is stunning and I particularly like her covers of 'Bad Liar' and 'Easy on Me'. She excels at performing emotionally charged songs. Unfortunately both of these are pre-recorded lip-sync versions but that's all there is. So many great singers !
I love the richness of Cynthia's voice HOWEVER< the endings of her phrases feel incomplete - thrown away - not sure if it is a choice but, not working for me. I think this happens more when she is on her own - vs. directed.
Hello Bethany, I am new subscriber to your channel after watching your reactions to Lara Fabian and South Korean singer Sohyang. I hope you do not mind me asking, but is there a chance of taking a deep dive into more South Korean singers (with live impactful performances in particular of course) ? I am not Korean myself and I do not even speak Korean, but I became passionately interested in their music (not the typical K-pop) which often can give a big emotional impact / feels - even though I do not fully understand what the songs are about. Especially in live performances, a singer can express a feeling and emotion - and also when shown with the reaction from the audience - one can be dragged into the emotions in a very pure form, which is both very fascinating and beautiful. There is one performance in particular which really grabs a lot strong emotional reaction of non-Korean speaking reaction-TH-camrs: Kim Jin-ho and his live performance of his song "Family Portrait". It would be very interesting to see your reaction and also your feedback of his voice and performances - especially in the way he is able to express emotions over to the listener and viewer. And of course, the best way to react to this is to get the first instant reaction in the purest and honest form. Here is a link: th-cam.com/video/wL_fI_xDKTQ/w-d-xo.html
Please please please review ‘A House In Nebraska’ by Ethel Cain or ‘Passage’ by ExitMusic. Both have lush synthesizer layers, but the vocals are wonderful, and the songs are wonderful. Thank you.
I could have Shoshana Bean on 24/7 and never grow tired of her. Her skills are just beyond everything!

Cynthia Erivo is one of my vocal favs of her generation. Shoshana Bean is new to me. 💙
This is so beautiful...I mean I was tearing up when those major chords kicked in... such powerful singers

Beautiful song, stunning cover. Thank you, Bethany for sharing through your tears and love for music:)
The dual run. Brief, but absolutely breathtaking! ❤
That was absolutely beautiful and stunning Beth. The text, the melody and the delivery was superb! Thanks for sharing it with us!❤
I'm so happy you enjoyed it!! 🥰
Thank you for sharing, and introducing me to these two. 'Wow' isn't a strong enough word to describe these two voices. But wow.
I love your reactions! It takes a lot to be as open as you are and still explain what’s going on - thank you for making the music more accessible! Fanboying like mad here. 🤩
One of the things I definitely have to do before I die is to see The Prince of Egypt musical live…hope they will do it again someday.

Fabulous and teary eyed reaction Bethany!! 🥲❤️❤️🙏
You are not "selfisly" sharing ,you are just sharing what you like,no apologies required.
No microphones no special effects no studio board... and they are able to pull off such beautiful vocals...
It's wonderful to see you someone so passionate about their chosen craft, and to be able to break down the singing techniques very simply for your everyday fellow.....I wish I could sing, but it scares the dog unfortunately, ...
Your job suits you..such passion..ty

Shoshana - yes - singer with acting chops - YES, her voice cuts big time. However, did you not know you were going to do this today (outfit?)
