    This is amazing work from you on an amazing Cathedral that we, Parisians love so much. Notre Dame is our roots and faith over centuries.
    So now in July 2023, we wait for the new spire and carpentry to be installed from Summer and finished by the end of 2023.

    This is absolutely wonderful! Congratulations on a superb piece of work. It’s a great tribute to this magnificent building. One small point, at 6:20 you show the south rose window in its later form (after Viollet Le Duc rotated it by 15 degrees)

    Were there ever going to be spires on top of the towers?

    • @cynthiacarter532
      @cynthiacarter532 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would like to know too. I read some years ago that the towers were supposed to have spires, but were never built. I've been following the reconstruction and have not seen that mentioned.

    • @crixxxxxxxxx
      @crixxxxxxxxx 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cynthiacarter532 Apparently there were plans in the 1800s to add spires to the towers along with the spire that was constructed in the middle of the transept. There were actually sketches made of what it would look like. Ultimately they decided against it and they were never built, only the transept spire was built.

    Well, here I am again to bring some news. My drawings have halted due to a movement from a little chamber from the Army of Salvation, to a real house with a garden. I'm currently working on the decoration of my new home first, before I can finally and buy myself a decent drawing board and drawing materials to resume my work on a A3 double drawing of the Notre Dame with 2 completed front towers, resembling Voillet-le-Duc's concept from the front and the back side. There are also plans to start a small website with (probably) encrypted pictures of all the work I've done on paper.
    I also have future plans;
    I don't like the spire from the Kölner Dom in Germany. It just doesn't match the 2 gigantic front towers and the rest of the building. Let's design a better one.
    And if you look close at Milan's Cathedral front facade, it actually contains a starter for 2 gigantic front towers... How would that look? How can I make it look like those 2 front towers match the whole cathedral, and are still supposed to be built?

    • @MylesZhang
      @MylesZhang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You might be interested in the facade of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The original concept from Michelangelo called for only a dome and no nave. Later architects added the nave, large square in front, and were planning on twin towers for the main facade. Construction was begun on the towers, but stopped as soon as the foundations started sinking and cracking from the added weight. Earlier builders had not anticipated the weight of the towers.
      The addition of the nave at St. Peter's hides the view of Michelangelo's dome from the public square in front. Later architects, among them Le Corbusier, have condemned the later nave and facade of St. Peter's for obscuring the aesthetic clarity of Michelangelo's original vision. It is common for the different parts of a cathedral to not match each other because different architects (and different egos) are involved over centuries of construction, as you note.

      @@MylesZhangman I love this kind of information. There are so many churches and cathedrals that were supposed to look different then it looks today. It's becoming a huge obsession and time consuming job for me to document that in the way that I do. Viollet-le-Duc is a huge inspiration for to do so. It's really taking an old self thaught craft to the next level. Working on such projects works meditative. And strangely, slowly but sure it's turning me into a christian as well. Todays world we have to endure, gives me the final push towards christianity. Especially when I open up a Holy Bible at Ephesians 6 10-16, I start to see why I have always been rebellious against the rulers of the darkness of this world. It feeds me reasons to repent, do what I have to do and be who I want to be. Another aspect of drawing a Notre Dame while surviving in a homeless shelter is that it kind of works as a talisman. It amazed so many people that it protected me from a lot of violence and ultimately descending into insanity. Even the most violent people were kind to me. The most broken ones hid their tears of joy. On a personal level, this fire turned my whole life upside down. But I'm working to turn this one bad day into a huge blessing in life. Hopefully, when my story about this comes out, it will inspire lots of other people. It's where these buildings are made for. To give you a hint about my testimony, I've created an actual picture of a déjà vu of the fire 5 years before it actually happened. It's why I must this.
