What do you mean, gonna give a new layer a vector layer? Trying to do this but doing things and pressing buttons without telling the viewer is making this tutorial impossible to follow
I create a clipping mask. You create a clipping mask by hold down option (Mac) or Alt (Windows) and then hovering over the line in between the two layers in the layers panel and clicking on the line. check out this link for a more detailed explanation: helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/revealing-layers-clipping-masks.html
Apparently according to photoshop Define an image as a preset pattern Use the Rectangle Marquee tool on any open image to select an area to use as a pattern. Feather must be set to 0 pixels. Note that large images may become unwieldy. Choose Edit > Define Pattern. Enter a name for the pattern in the Pattern Name dialog box.
I've said this once and ill say it again. Small channels always explain better than popular channels
