Esperanto. I have never heard of this language before. I loved learning about this language and hearing some of the words. And so crazy how Germany and Belgium are split like that along the trail.
It amazes me how close so many borders can be in Europe. That's something I want to do in the future, visiting spots that are bordered between 3+ countries or states. WWI really changed the border landscapes of Europe. I love all the nature along the walking trails. Learning new languages, very nice. You guys really covered a lot of ground. Well done.
I think borders always have a lot of history to tell. I do sometimes wonder why they're, where they're. Especially here IN Europe, they're hardly ever a straight line! All the best!

The route along the Belgian border was really beautiful and varied, I've never heard this little country before, so you always learn something new. The second part was new to me and there were great trails here too, right up to the Eifelsteig. Another nice tour and I could tell Frodo had a lot of fun. Hi Kaat! Fun adventure with Wandersocken! Great to hike and camp out! ⛺️⛺️It was really great to see the different parts along the border between Belgium and Germany. It all seems pretty informal. The way-markers are great, especially the really old one… and fun to see where the old train lines were. I have to look at the map, but it seems like a nice long border. Is there a time change? O yes, that one section is probably reserved for Aliens!! 😉😁 lol! 👍👍🥾🥾
Hi, the border is about 203km long. So still a bit to go! Crossing the border has become really easy. The only difference now is the language, although in the part of Belgium at the border they also sprak german. 😊 There is no time difference in Europe. Only the UK and if you go further East. The Wandersocken are great and I think you would get along as well. 😁 If you ever make it over to Europe again we should meet up! By the way, my sister has left Seattle and lives in Mexico. Normally that's in 2025. I would like to join the Red River Gorge meer-up in oktober 2024 and combine it with a 4-day hike somewhere in the US. And I would love to do that with just a few people, maybe only girls.... But they're just vague plans... Normally this oktober I plan to do the 2nd half of my Compostela adventure! Another great hike and what made this more interesting was the fact that you walked from one country to another in an instant with just few steps. Looking forward to your next hike involving Luxembourg. My wife and I are interested in doing this trail and particularly would love to see the crazy corner! Two thumbs up!
Yes, the border sure has some crazy corners and stories as well. WW1 sure shifted the borders a bit... The trail is just a gpx file you'll find in the description. The Eifelsteig is close to the border as well if you want to follow a marked trail. Luxemburg is still quite far and won't be in the next episode. 😉

I really enjoyed this video. I liked the historical information about Moresnet - I have never heard about that before. I find it interesting how borders change over the years.
Here in Europe the borders sure have switched a bit over the years. Belgium only exists since 1830 and we got a part of Germany after WW1. And Central Moresnet. I only heard about that place a view years ago when they made a television show about lost history in Belgium. I really enjoyed watching that. Have a great week!

Seems like a fun time with your friends. That part where you had to cut through that barbed wire fence looked a but challenging. Neat to hear Esperanto. As a Canadian, it's awesome to me that the borders are so open and close - here in Canada our only land border is the US and you cannot freely cross.
But I guess in Canada you do know about speaking different languages, to solve that 'problem', Esperanto was a big dream of some people in the early 1900's, a language everybody can learn quite easily. I guess now most people speak a word or 2 in English. Imagine us, making TH-cam video's in Esperanto! lol
Such fun!! I loved my time living in Germany. We visited so many countries in Europe. It was before the EU, so we needed our passports at the borders. Otherwise, it was like driving from state to state here in the USA. However, such rich culture and history. Great story Kaat. I like the aliens theory. 😂

The borders in Europe sure are full of history since they changed quite a lot over the years. I think there even was a time that England ruled over most part of France. Overhere we have had Romans, Germans, Spanish, Dutch, Austrians, French and I don't know who more, ruling our country... 😊 We had a lot of fun and learning a bit of Esperanto was also fun. Esperanto is an artificial language, made by some dreamers, trying to unite people thru a language.

The borders in Europe are so close and quite peaceful. I am just comparing Indian border with our neighboring country 🙂. Good to see Frodo after few videos.
Yep, Frodo really enjoyed coming along! Cycling with a dog is a lot harder, so that's why the poor guy had to stay home! 😉
I think the Indian border is harder to cross then this one! 😁

Yes. It makes quite a few part of Germany surrounded by Belgium! I didn't know that before meeting the Wandersocken last year, they told me. 😉

Seems like a fun time with your friends. That part where you had to cut through that barbed wire fence looked a but challenging. Neat to hear Esperanto. As a Canadian, it's awesome to me that the borders are so open and close - here in Canada our only land border is the US and you cannot freely cross.
But I guess in Canada you do know about speaking different languages, to solve that 'problem', Esperanto was a big dream of some people in the early 1900's, a language everybody can learn quite easily.
I guess now most people speak a word or 2 in English. Imagine us, making TH-cam video's in Esperanto! lol
Such fun!! I loved my time living in Germany. We visited so many countries in Europe. It was before the EU, so we needed our passports at the borders. Otherwise, it was like driving from state to state here in the USA. However, such rich culture and history. Great story Kaat. I like the aliens theory. 😂
And at that time there was a different currency in every country, that was a lot of hassle when traveling around. And a lot of different languages as well...

The borders in Europe sure are full of history since they changed quite a lot over the years. I think there even was a time that England ruled over most part of France.
I like the fact that they're easy to cross. And I think on the other hand that we need a passport to travel to the UK now. 😒

Hi Mark, I think in Europe the borders have sure shifted quite a bit. Overhere we have had Romans, Germans, Spanish, Dutch, Austrians, French and I don't know who more, ruling our country... 😊
We had a lot of fun and learning a bit of Esperanto was also fun. In fact it was a great Idea that artificial and simple language. I guess English has taken up the role of a more universal language... 😊
