I’ve had a kindle since the beginning of their creation and love them. I have always had an issue with holding on to the Kindle as I have smaller hands but I have found just adding a pop socket to the back is a life changer.
This is an excellent idea! I hate pop sockets on my phone because they cover my phone case design and make it bulky but that wouldn’t be an issue for me for the kindle!
Popsocket was a game changer for me too! Saw @larryreads use one and gave it a try.
And you can buy a cheap silicone case to put it on if you want to use some protection 😊
Same, and I also switched to landscape display and I find it easier to hold with the thicker bottom edge in my left hand

I got the basic in 2021 and since it helped me read 80 books that year I thought I deserved the upgrade to the new ppw. I don’t regret it. I toss the basic in my bag and take it with me everywhere I go while I keep the ppw at home.
This is helpful. What is unfortunate is that the biggest complaint on Amazon about the oasis is the cost vs that actual product. If Amazon would drop their price of the oasis, I bet more people would purchase it. I would, simply for the design alone. This was a very helpful review Chantal! Thank you!

It will be cheaper in the Black Friday sales, they drop their prices to almost half price.
I wanted the oasis for the buttons and searched poshmark and found a super gently used one for $150, love it and it was totally worth it!
To be fair, the $250 price she mentions in her video _is_ a dropped price. I bought the Oasis when it was new and I paid $350 for it, so it’s already come down by $100.
But yeah, it’s about due for an update, and I’m hoping they’ll do a good one because I really _really_ love my Oasis and I plan on buying the new one whenever they update it if it’s anything like this one. But for most people, like she said, this one is more for people with the disposable income or who _really_ read a lot and would benefit significantly from the improved ergonomics, or who need the water resistance.

almost bought the oasis and got the new paperwhite instead and im glad i did. the paperwhite is also faster, since it is updated and doesn't lag as much. i have a case that has a spot for you to slide your hand so, so holding it is never an issue for me with it small edges. usb-c was also such a huge plus for me. i think the battery also lasts way longer. and the newer improved screen size in the paperwhite also made me buy it instantly. hands down my favorite one. lol.

I bought the basic model in white thanks to you on Prime Day last month and it was such a great decision. I love, love, love it. I carry it around with me everywhere & the battery life is amazing. I never thought I needed an e-reader because I have my iPhone and iPad, but I gave the Kindle a chance & my reading experience is much better now. so thank you! :)

Your mannerisms are similar to Mariah Carey's, which made the video a sort of infotainment. I have the Kindle Oasis, too. I feel that it's the best Kindle among all three because using it feels closest to reading a real book. The form factor. That extra space on the side. I'm being subjective, though, because it's the only Kindle I've ever had. If I didn't get it, I'd probably be holding a Kindle Basic. It's hard to like, on a personal note, the Kindle Paperwhite because it looks like some random Amazon Fire Tablet turned into an e-reader.
I have had the basic white paperwhite for 6 years. It not being waterproof has never been a problem, i just put tissue in the charging port when im reading in the bath so the condensation doesn't get in. Never had an issue even when i havent done it :P love love love my kindle. Every year i get a new case. Good battery, good lighting, fast pge turning, good enough resolution plus its the most compact and cutest kindle. I like that it has bezels that stick out a bit from the screen because it makes it feel more cosy and protected like it's not gonna get all scratched up, just how i see it. Not personally into the whole flat faced look on devices, i like a physical difference from the screen to the rest of the body :) great video!
I got an Oasis as a birthday present and loved it SO MUCH! If I were choosing myself I probably wouldn't consider it because of the price, but the ergonomics of it are crazy good and worth it. My hands are never tired of holding it and I don't need to adjust my sitting/laying position to still be able to use a device. This really makes the reading process smooth and enjoyable for me.

I ordered one of the first Kindles when they came out in 2007. I’ve updated of course but have used a Kindle since then. I read a lot and use my Kindle every day, I love it!
I want to buy one , can i ask you if 8 GB enough or i need to buy one with more GBs?
@@bayana5023 more than enough for just books. You only need more than 8gb if you are going to be storing audiobook however it’s better to use something like a phone for that. I have over 300 books on mine and it has used barely any space, roughly 5.2gb available from 5.9gb total
I think the oasis is worth the price for me (wait for a discount for sure) - the designs and the buttons are game changers IMO I switch hands all the time while reading I can't imagine tapping the screen anymore
You can actually change the settings for the buttons to turn the page forward or backward!
I am a avid reader and book collector. I am 54 years old and I have read thousands of thrillers. John Grisham, David Baldacci, James Patterson, Mark Greaney, Stephen King, Daniel Silva are some of my favorite writers. I was always carrying 2 more books in my backpack 🎒. A few months ago my wife purchased a Amazon Kindle Paperwhite. She introduced me to the world of Kindle Paperwhite. I don't have to lug 2 or 3 books in my backpack anymore. I now read on Kindle Paperwhite. I really enjoyed it and love it. I highly recommend it.
I just bought my kindle 2 days ago... I’ve been a bookworm since I can rmbr and having a kindle is indeed life changing.. i can read easily and also it is rlly easy on the eyes.. I mostly read on my phone or my ipad and my eyes rlly gets irritated whnvr I read for hours.. anw ebook is a must ~ love your vid 💖

I know this was three months ago and you probably made your decision but I added an all black pop socket to the back of my paper white so it still looks sleek and it really solves your problems with the holds. You can hold it in either hand and if you swipe from the middle with your left thumb while holding you can keep your other arm cozy! Save the money and make sure you can keep the device for years. You could even splurge on the signature edition and get wireless charging and adaptive warmth for less than an oasis👀

I had the Paperwhite [2015 version] and last year updated to the Oasis, and I am the same way as you where I know that UNLESS you get it at a discount, it's not worth the original price, but man that design makes e-reading such a good experience.
Yeah I agree with you on the Oasis but I'm purchasing this one 100 out of 100 times just because of the buttons and the larger borders. Like you I hope they come out with a revamped Oasis. Battery life on this thing is not great but I just plug it in every other day and it's never an issue.
I do love the border, makes it so much easier to hold!
I'm sticking with the Oasis for the same reason you do. I even have an older model that doesn't have a warm light option but I'm not switching to the newest Paperwhite because it's uncomfortable to hold. I also do not like taping on the page to go to next page, I have a better experience with the buttons.
I got my kindle PW 11 Gen. 2 weeks ago, your video was very helpful in helping me decide. I love it, was so worth the purchase. Compared to the new Kindle Basic- there is no warm light and that was a deal breaker for me.

You are able to transgress (to go beyond a boundary or limit. In this case age.) I really WANTED to like the Oasis. And I so WANTED to choose the buttons. But you made such a compelling argument that unless they update the Oasis the population oughtn't support it. So I'll hang in with the silicone-backed 11th Gen e-reader until they listen to the people and update the Oasis. Bless your heart, Sweetie. Rock on ❤️
Was planning on getting a Kindle for Christmas so this comes in clutch. One strange thing is the manufactured scarcity with the library ebooks and the imposed wait time. I suppose it might be a legitimate licensing issue but that also is very silly, similar to content geo-blocking. But everything, as always comes back to money. Great video though!
It’s unfortunately a licensing issue. I work at a university library and we have the issue that some of the books on the curriculum are bought with just a few licences meaning only maybe two people can use them at a time. It really sucks for the students, but on the other side it would have been similar if they had used physical copies from the library as well. I still wish it wasn’t like that.
On my super old kindle, it doesn’t have the ability to tell if a book is due when I’m off of wifi so I’m able to just turn on airplane mode so I can keep the book longer. Super nice, I don’t think I would upgrade my kindle for that reason 😂

I got my basic kindle early in 2022 and upgraded to the paperwhite this christmas. I LOVED my basic, but the paper white really is a much nicer experience. I would get somewhat irritated with my basics' touch ability, it would be very slow and the wifi would go in and out. Still a great option for the price though!

I have all 3 and the scribe. I used the oasis more than anything. I like the page turn buttons. I used the paperwhite for traveling, and the scribe for at home reading. I’ve forgot what I did with the regular because I don’t use it anymore.
I use a pop socket on the back of my paper white - GAME CHANGER for holding!!!!
I bought a basic one used around 2020, it was like $60 and it's great!! It was like new and I have never ever had an issue with it!! I got a cute case on Etsy also once I knew I was in love!! ❤
I got an oasis for Christmas and I love it! It is my first kindle, I have been using the app for years, so it was a nice surprise underneath the Christmas tree this year. I personally love the design, love the buttons, and I love that I can easily switch the orientation and have the buttons on either the left or right hand side as I tend to switch hands when I'm reading. I find that I actually read MORE on my kindle then when I used to buy physical books... I would totally recommend a kindle if you are an avid reader.
ALSO.... You can load fanfiction onto your kindle oasis ;) I'm not sure if you can do this with other models.
Just go big and get the Oasis! There is not a single thing that I am upset with about it. Never had a battery length issue i can go like a week of reading hours and hours and not have an issue I just put it on airplane mode when im not downloading anything, the physical buttons are perfect and it the right location to be comfortable. I would spend the amount on it over and over it is 100% worth it.

If you're not married to the idea of a Kindle, the Kobo Libra 2 is a great option. It's a fair bit cheaper than the Oasis and a has many of the same features. (libby compatibility, page turn buttons, auto rotation, water proof, etc.) It's a plastic e-reader, but I find it more comfortable to hold because it's never too cold or too hot on your hands. Additionally, this is most definitely getting future software updates unlike the oasis.

I have both. Can’t get library books on my Oasis due to my location but I get them on my Libra 2 which is a fantastic product. I find it easier to get books for the Library 2 (ePub and Mobi), however Amazon always have great £0.99 deals on offer. Best of both worlds really
I upgraded to the 10th Gen Basic White after 10 years, or using and loving the 4th Gen. I've had the White for about 2 years and still love it. I thought about going for the newer Basic 11th Gen, but it doesn't come in white and I am totally OCD about fingerprints!
I'm hoping that they'll bring back the White option in future releases.
I’ve realised I really need to upgrade my kindle. I have a 2014 Basic model and I’ve used it a lot, but it’s started to become harder and harder to use. It’s so slow and has such a hard time connecting to the internet that I’ve started just reading on the kindle app on my phone, only using the kindle itself for buying the books. It seems like the Paperwrite is the most ideal, but I love the features of the Oasis! Also I really like the fact that it’s not made of plastic. I might just wait for a little bit longer to see if there is an upgrade for the Oasis as the one I have still kinda works.
U have exactly what i have. With mine the problem is the battery. It doesnt last very long (used). So, i bought the new kindle paperwhite (11th gen).
Great review! Thank you for sharing. I've been thinking of updating to the Oasis, but I don't really see the point of it. Ergonomics isn't a big issue for me, so it looks like I'll be sticking with the paperwhite!

I’m getting a kindle paperwhite on black Friday so I can read more for 2 reasons. 1) I have no room to store books and 2) I often get multiple books at a time which gets really expensive and I can buy the same amount of ebooks for about half the price or more depending on the price of the ebook

Great video review thanks for posting it. I have (use) the newest 2021 Kindle Paperwhite and I love it. I purchased mine in November 2021 during the Black Friday sale. I only paid $105.00 which is a great deal. I also have the Kindle Basic and the previous Kindle Paperwhite. I only have them as a backup if needed.
I've had the Oasis for awhile, which I really enjoy, but I ride my bike all the time and it doesn't fit in my saddle bag (too wide), so I solved this first-world problem by getting a PW (2022 version).
I agree that for a vast majority of people the Oasis is overkill, but man, once you go with physical buttons and that asymmetrical grip it's kinda hard to go back! The PW is great for travel, it fits perfectly in my saddle bag which is awesome, but when I'm reading at home I definitely go for the Oasis.
The most annoying thing for me with the Oasis is the micro-USB. Everything I charge these days uses USB-C except that darn Oasis!

I was on the fence at $185 and was going to wait for the Kindle Oasis 4 but at $125 I couldn't pass this up. Then I got a three month Kindle Unlimited subscription for $0.99. You could get the Oasis for the same price with 3 free months of Kindle unlimited but it doesn't work with the Amex deal.

I have the newest basic kindle, the 11th Gen, and it has usb-c.
I like using my kindle in landscape display, I find it's easier to hold, and I have never accidentally touched the power button.
The only kindle with a blue light is the kindle oasis

Thanks for this! I've been doing my research on nook vs kindle lately. As much as I love having physical books to read, in order to save space in my house, I think eReading is the way to go 😂 I currently have a nook simple touch that my parents got me for Christmas many years ago.. maybe 2011 or 2012?

I love my basic model Kindle. I've had mine for years. I'm upgrading to the Oasis. I need a larger screen. Slowly moving my current paperback/hardbound book collection to Kindle.

I had never considered upgrading my kindle that I bought ten years ago because none of them had buttons until they made the Oasis. The page turn buttons are a must for me. I always read in bed one handed and having a device that requires me to tap with the other would get so annoying for me. I hope they update the Oasis so i can buy it.

The paper white has two options that weren’t mentioned. There is a premium model that has 32gb, has no ads, and that can wirelessly be charged. It’s important to note this if you’re on the fence between the PW and the oasis. I decided on the premium PW model because I was getting more benefits for my extra money. The premium model is more than the regular PW. However, the benefits of all the updates and additional features make it worth it. I keep my kindle in the case so I can read it like I am holding a book. That takes the aggravation away of being uncomfortable holding the kindle or touching things that you don’t want to. Thanks for the great review otherwise. My vote is the PW all the way. Paying the extra money is worth it for the PW premium, but not enough features to justify paying even more for the oasis. Dr. Mo
Exactly, for just $20 AUD you can buy this cover from Amazon that has a build in stand and hand straps (left or right handed folks).. I am not associated it it, I just found it while looking for a cover for myself.

Great review, I have two Kindles, the basic that I keep by my bed in case I wake up in the middle of the night and I have the paper white. I decided to put a pop socket on the back of my paper white to make it easier to hold. I thought of the Oasis because I Ike the buttons on the side, but the price, maybe one day but not right now.

I want a kindle and so I am waiting for my birthday to get it. But I am using the kindle app on my iPad to get used to it. One thing that one can’t do on the kindle app is to underline in like a pen or pencil and I also wish that there were more colour choices for highlighting.

I just bought a 2012 4th gen Kindle, which I know that amazon service no longer support, well just for kind of testing the water before paying 10x money for new one.

Thanks so much for filming this incredibly informative video it was a joy to watch and enjoyable to learn from, I didn't know that there were three different types of kindles! I like the one you decided to keep the oasis I think having a defined edge to help hold the tablet especially when reading in bed or on the go or in the waiting room, would be immensely helpful! I have been throughly enjoying reading ebooks and listening to audiobooks and until I discovered both of these methods for enjoying books I didn't think it was possible to enjoy reading more

I have a Oasis and I can say that you’re better off to get the new PPW. The battery is better, plus you’ll have a USB-C. I still love my Oasis but it definitely needs a update 👍

I've tried all 3 and I love my Kindle Oasis but for the price you might aswell get the paperwhite. Personally I haven't had issues with the battery and it charges quite fast but your really don't get much bang for your buck to justify it
I have the kindle paperwhite 2018 model. I love it but I think I will be upgrading it to the 2021 version for some of its new features. Especially for the USB-C port since I have so many lol.
