I was raised atheist. Used to love to drink, go out, and chase the ladies. 4 years ago got saved, had supernatural encounter with Jesus. Didn't drink since because when you feel the presence of God and receive baptism of the Holy Spirit it gets you higher than any drug or alcohol for that matter. Also, being obedient to "Do not get drunk on wine but be filled with the Holy Spirit."

I did the exact same thing with all three; sex, drugs, and drinking. When I was in 8th or 9th grade I saw how one and sometimes all of those three things really messed up the lives of those around me. From my friends all the way to my close family members.
So I promise myself, "you will NEVER go down that road and you will be the example of the right way of doing things." I am 25 years old right and I am still living that promise out!
Yung Disciple, keep up the phenomenal work!

I lived a life full of why not... Just about everything I was told was "fun" in hischool and College, I said "why not?" I partied, I had sex before marriage, I drank alcohol and I smoked weed, had a baby out of wedlock BUT then I Got baptized and got married to a man who claimed to love me and beat me daily in our marriage and one day half to death. I took my son and left. After recovering in the hospital I didn't want anything, no food, no drinks, no friends, just Jesus. I only wanted Jesus. That was about 3 years ago and I have been walking with him since. No cravings, no HEAVY Alcohol (just wine now and then), crazy partying and I have abstain from premarital sex for a year. I Got a chance to live again. I wasn't allowed to finish college when I was married but now I have a BA. I feel blessed, renewed and refreshed. I give praise to my Savior. I pray that someone can learn from my mistakes and not do the same.

    1) I seen how it damaged my family.
    2) It's nasty.

I don't drink and it's amazing how many people down you or try to belittle you because you decide something isn't for you. It's part or my walk I guess, always different, creating my own path. I decided I wanted self control as much as possible and the lord has been with every step.

From the age of 15-18 I was consuming alcohol at any chance I'd get, but I'd go ham, mix drinks, the whole lot. (family parties, birthday parties etc)
I was that quiet, shy girl, but as soon as the alcohol got in my system, I became so lustful, carnal you name it.
I used to smoke weed too. I was addicted, but I realised I was doing it because I wanted to look "cool" and gain acceptance from others, I even got caught rolling up with my cousin by her dad. I almost got in so much trouble.
but Jesus freed me from those substances.
I am 19 now, will be turning 20 in July.
Being free from it allowed me to see things with my spiritual eyes at family gatherings, weddings when alcohol is being consumed etc, and everything started to make so much sense.
I've been clean for 2 years now, and I've never felt so free.
    THANK YOU LORD!

Loved and understood your message. I can honesty say that I do drink alcohol from time to time. I am a wine drinker for the most part. I don't club, party, and go hard or go home on Bourbon street like my peers. I don't drink regularly and I don't smoke. I just want to continue to get my life on the right path with God.

Hey, I just landed on your TH-cam from Facebook! From buzzfeed posting about your Sallie Mae video. I just wanted to drop a few lines to say congrats on your signing, paying off your loans (I'm still working on mine) and really get the vibe you are doing what you love. It's awesome! Quickly; I quit drinking over four years ago. I grew up believing the ultimate goal to live life was a 9-5 job you kind of hate, going out after, doing things you regret, sleep, repeat. I never imagined living a sober life. But God showed me that I am so much more than a bottle and bad decisions. That I could have serious purpose, joy, fulfillment. So that's why I don't drink. Keep doing you. ✌

I drink alcohol, not regularly, but I do. Never have gotten drunk before though and never will. This video brings me to this internal battle that I've been having with myself about drinking. I really can't find a real reason to drink alcohol, the only reason I do is because people around me do to have more "fun". Now, I think I'm going to stop drinking from here on out, start thinking for myself you know. Thank you for the video, needed the introspection lol. Love your music by the way. whoaaa that's crazy...makes sense tho...i had a short lived thing with alcohol..grew up in church knowing that it wasn't right...but I got curious around my college years..long story short .. mentally I didn't want to depend on a substance to find peace or joy etc...plus it was a waste of money and it didn't usually end well so I let it go... God bless ya!

Your testimony is awesome. I had maybe 3 drinks in my life time, they tasted nasty and then I got saved so I didn't feel the need, that wasn't one of my weaknesses, I had other weaknesses though that God dealt with and is still holding it down.

I haven't had a drink since 2018 6 years sober off drinking. Why I used to drink was because of depression I felt I needed to numb the pain I wasn't spiritually strong enough till I got delivered from that addiction when I gave my life to the Lord

I've never drunk alcohol in my 23 yrs of living because God took the desire out of me. When I was 16, I wanted to drink. I was super anxious for alcohol and my mom thought I'd be a wine-oh. However, when the time came I was about 19 and literally, God took the desire of out me! And still, like you said, I don't feel like I'm missing out or missing anything. I just took it as a way of God protecting me and using me to be different from others!

Praise God

+Junky Slimm This is such a true testament to God's power.. I used to do hard drugs, even though I always used to say that marijuana isn't a gateway drug. I prayed begging God to help me to stop and get me away from the people I had started doing them with, and He did. It's been almost a year since I did them.

Big blessings Dee1 I havent drank any alcohol in about 12 years. And when i did drink it was no more than two years of my life. I use to drink because it made me more social. since then ive lived as a monk in a temple for about 6 years. Now that i dont live that monk life.. leaving the ashram... I dont feel like i need that in order to connect with people. Through meditation and spiritual cultivation.. I feel more open to connect relate and grow with the world around me. Now a days i do shows in alot of clubs and bars and festivals where alcohol is sold and i dont mind that. But for my personal journey.. i'm life already brings so many great adventures...

Great testimony thanks for sharing Dee 1 I pray you continue to improve.🌺I used to drink a half a glass of wine twice a year on my birthday and New Year's to celebrate. I stopped because I had an alcoholic husband at the time and I worked with alcohol and drug addition patients. Wine also made me sleepy also so I enjoy my life without it.🙂Be blessed!

I think I found my new favorite TH-camr. I drank in high school to keep up with the "cool kids" but it was never an all the time thing. I was a follower. But I cut it out altogether until I officially turned 21 (I'm only 22 now) & even still, to this day I only have one fruity type of alcoholic drink when I go out to eat or something & that's maybe one time out of a two to three month frame. I'm at the point now where I see it's not all that & I could very much do without it. I don't need it to have a good time or to relax or as a type of pain reliever. I think it's more of a taste test for me.

Dee I never drunk and I dont enjoy drinks with acid as well. I made a decision since I was a kid. Seeing things my dad did when he was drunk. It wasnt any anything extreme, but I prefared him sober. So I choose to sober... On Christmas almost all of my friends get drunk, but I dont envy their state, cause I value the awareness of being Sober.... Keep it real man. You are an inspiration.

I used to drink and it really affected me badly. Physically, I even blacked out a few times. Spiritually, it made me way more open to sin than I would normally be. Then, I got saved and my whole life changed. God helped me to understand that the alcohol had to go because why would I keep drinking when alcohol opened me up to the sin that Jesus gave His life for me to be free from? It wasn't an immediate change, but thank God He delivered me completely from it. I love being completely sober at all times. I love being caught up in worship, rather than being tipsy or drunk. Thank God for His grace. God bless you Dee-1.

I've never had a drink either. Growing up, I wasn't really exposed to alcohol because my parents don't drink. My paternal grandfather (from what I've heard because I never got to meet him) was an abusive alcoholic, so my dad vowed not to be like him. My mom also made the conscious decision that she didn't want to drink. By the time I got to college, I wasn't interested in trying anything that would lower my inhibitions. I had too many other things to focus on (like graduating lol)! I'm in grad school now, working on my PhD, and I am so happy that no alcohol or drugs have touched my body. I read this quote in Whole Foods once that said "Treat your body like it belongs to someone you love" and that really made me think. I wouldn't want my loved ones injecting poison into their bodies, so I shouldn't either.

What up Dee 1, I'm from New Orleans currently living in Houston, I first took my first drink of beer in the 8th grade...about 16 or 17 i would drink a small bottle of cheap voodka a day, for two weeks straight...on the last day i was drinking my whole body collapsed and fell to the ground and took a couple of minutes before i got back up...i realized then the side effects of drinking early on ad i quit for awhile. I drinked throughout life in college, and in the navy but when i got my life with Christ i gave it up...

dee-1 I remember meeting you in San Diego I solved the Rubik's Cube really fast for you after you opened for Lupe. I'm 27 and I haven't drank either, and that's not because religious or anything, though I respect you and your religiosity, it's because I know I don't have the luxury to be able to casually drink alcohol. I'm Native American, Alcoholism runs in my family and so if I chose to drink, chances are I'd go down that path and the best way to quit is to never start. I went through college as well, at ucsd, and know how socially it ostracizes you. Anyways, thanks for the inspiration and the good music you put out there. Stay real, righteous and relevant.

    Love these videos.
Stay real and start smart, Dee. I used to drink quite a bit. Never by myself, because drinking alone seems depressing to me. But in bars, sure. So I basically lived in bars for a couple years, then burned out on it. I still like a beer from time to time, but I hardly drink at all anymore. I've had friends who've drunk themselves into comas, gotten blackout drunk and tried to commit suicide for no reason, and not even remember doing it. I've seen friends go to jail, friends get badly injured, lose their jobs, lose their marriages. And some friends are gone. And some are sober now. But I've seen alcohol destroy more lives than any other drug.
So stay true, little homie. You're on the right track, and you know it.

I never drunk as well, I mean, my dad let me smell a corona a long time ago, and it... just didn't smell right to me. I thought to myself: "Why would I even drink something that makes me cringe, just by smelling it?" same went for smoking. It physically sickened me just to be around people who did it. Stomach didn't feel right. I usually drink water, and different fruit juices though. but I really liked your sallie mae back (wish I knew about you sooner! heard about you from buzzfeed on facebook) and watching this, I really enjoy you taking the time out to reaching us Dee-1. I don't think I ever had a rapper that I could really relate to growing up (so I stuck with classical music, oldies, and old school rap, none of this trap), but I got 1 more year of college, and i'm excited to see what else you have! keep doing you, and be the best in all you do! This IT major going to make something out of himself yet!

I started drinking in high school but thats what the cool kids were doing. I am one of those smart kids who was doing dumb things but about 2012 is when I stopped after coming back from Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Before coming there my life was already changing as far as making my way to the Lord. And then when I came down there for Mardi Gras, God was talking to me every where. He was on the tv when I was sleeping talking through a preacher who was giving a sermon, He was on one of those streets before we hit Bourbon Street where there were a group of Christian brothers/sisters who were basically having a revival on that street. He made it real hard for me to even enjoy drinking because of the conviction I was getting. I have not drank since and do not plan on it. A year later my little sister passed away due to drinking/driving but she wasn't the one driving. So that is another reason. I am here for a purose and the days of living it up for the enemy is done because I know who I am in Christ Jesus and I know whose I am. Thank you for sharing.

That's awesome, Dee! I'm a 32-year-old single guy, and I've never tasted an alcoholic beverage, either! Never ever wanted to or felt the need. If that is required for being "cool" and socially accepted, then count me as an outcast! Don't want it, don't need it. Plus, it's not even healthy to drink beer or higher proof drinks. Thanks for sharing your story!

I never was a real drinker or anything but occasionally I would one every now and then. Being from Louisiana Daq's are popular and common to have when partying with friends, etc. But some months ago the taste of alcohol started to not be so satisfying and I attributed that with new found spiritual change. So as time progressed I would test myself and test myself but I knew that I wasn't pleased with the way liquor tastes because of God. So I gave up alcohol and I don't miss it! #spiritualgrowth #nounwantedcalorieslol

Dee-1 I really enjoy your videos and music. Keep doing what God has called you to do and trust Him regardless😊. *shout out from a fan in Cape Town
I watched my dad drink alcohol and wasn't impressed from a young age so kind of had a deal with God that I would not drink in general. In university I found that so many people around me(Christians and otherwise) found drinking normal. Against my deal with God I would be cheeky and have a sip here and there to try and see if alcohol was indeed as bad as I thought it was. HATED the taste and stopped trying. I realised that alcohol was an acquired taste and really not a taste worth acquiring if i didnt like it after several attempts. Also not keen on the effects of it and how you can lose control of your senses or be numb while under the influence. Decided to steer clear and let God. There is a reason why i don't and have never liked the taste.
There is also a reason why God gave you that condition...to share this testimony and live your purpose as not just another rapper all about the booze and women.
Thinking about it...there's not much to alcohol. It's just a bitter fermented drink yet society potrays it as a source of joy and many are enslaved to it unkowingly....
Long story short-Thank you for making this video. Looking forward to many more. Was really refreshing knowing there are Christian guys like you out there. Keep up the good work.
    God bless

Good for you for not joining the alcohol culture! I've never drank either, and I agree, you don't need it to have fun! I didn't have any health condition that contributed to this decision. It just never made sense to me to do it. Everything that people gain from drinking, I believe I'm better off cultivating internally and strengthening inside so I don't need alcohol for it (ie. Courage, relaxing, having fun, opening up to ppl, talking, etc). The interesting thing, is that people judge and discriminate against me for not drinking and often assume I'm judging them, when I am not and don't care if they choose to do that lol I don't let it bother me though. I don't need that kinda people in my life :D 32 yrs and going :D Keep on man, keep on!

I used to drink to numb the feeling of being incomplete. And honestly when I came to Christ, it was hard but I gave up drinking, drugs, and sex because those were things that in my previous way of living made me feel temporarily complete, but now with Christ in my life I am Truly complete! And I no longer desire any of those!

I'm a fan of Dee 1. My mom used to like Dee 1 before she passed away, the only rapper she thought was good (besides T.I too) anyways, I never drunk alcohol because my father & his father died from alcoholism (cirrohosis to the liver). So it's like a generational curse that I'm breaking now. Ppl look at me crazy but respect the fact I don't drink. When I went to a small party, everybody was alil drunk & I was drinking juice watching how stupid ppl was acting which made laugh. I kept my promise to myself to never drink or smoke & I'm glad to see a rapper doing the same 💯

Definitely was a huge drinker in my teens but its just part of the culture in NZ. Was also a great escape from life and from God but of course you can't really escape from God. So glad that I could be free from it and I only stopped because I know it has been a problem for me. But as a Christian, if you can drink healthy with a clear conscience then all the best, all power to you. Thanks Dee

I started drinking when I was younger at the time cause I guess I wanted the pain and hurt to go away and as I was growing up I've been depress, struggling, and just wanted to forget bout everything from the past so alcohol was basically my best friend not saying I was an alcoholic always knew how to stay away for a week within a month cause I drink when I'm happy, sad, hurt, or just wanted to drink basically I always control myself and not drink at parties, with family, or whatever …

I'm 22 and although I do have a drink occasionally, I don't get drunk. I have been once or twice in the safety of my best friend's house for different celebrations. The reason I don't really get drunk is because I noticed that when I drink excessively, I get chest pains do to a heart condition I was born with. I don't get hung over, but my chest does hurt for a couple of days unless I drink gallons of water. Now, every now and then I'll have an alcoholic beverage with my dinner, but most of the time I don't even drink the whole thing. It's just based on what sounds like it'll taste good. However, most of the time I drink water now because I've been preparing myself for the military.

Alcohol is relaxing to me. I've never been a person who drinks with the intention of getting f'ed up and I can't really understand that mentality either. I still drink, but at a much lower rate since I'm not as young and in as many social situations where people are drinking heavily.

I never liked alcohol but my cousins always drank so I tried to get down. I got drunk a couple of times and I didn't like it. I really liked smoking weed. I used to try to mix the two. People don't get that it is a spiritual war that we are in. When people drink alcohol a spirit goes into their body that calls other spirits. For example a girl who is shy would drink and once that alcohol spirit is in her he calls a spirit of fornication and now she's having sex. For example someone isn't a fighter but they drink and now they are mike tyson that spirit of alcohol went and got a spirit of violence and they clicked.

I agree with you Dee in that I never understood why people think they need to have alcohol to have fun. I drink on occasion and I never got drunk I know when to stop which is really after one beverage. But it just never clicked to me why do I want to get wasted to then feel terrible after on the next day and do that over again on another occasion. I have a question to anyone who reads this and that is, why do we associate "getting a drink" with alcohol? I could want water or juice and that's a drink but you get some weird looks when you get something non alcoholic.

I wish I would of never started drinking. I have chosen to stop because I know it's a depressant and I been battling depression and anxiety for years. I have gotten myself in some trouble recently and I am now facing a DUI charge but I wouldn't be if the roads were not icy n slick when I got caught up...my car spun out of control and I'm just thankful to be alive. I have been having indigestion issues since last year and I been mad about it...so I have started eating a vegetarian diet and I decided that I need to stay true to me and not drink or smoke no more because I got tired of that lifestyle about five years ago but kept running back to it in times of pain..loneliness..anger..depression...I know it ain't who I am anymore and I am better off without any of those things. That's the short version of my alcohol history..😂I admire you Dee-1..💜and you inspire me..I been getting back on the flow and it's been getting real again..you inspire me in that area too..You are a beautifuL spirit.

So that experience was enough for me to determine I'm good on that now at 30 its just a habit I haven't indulged in so as you said why start now😀

I pretty much don't drink Alcohol anymore because I became Alcoholic and addicted and did it daily. Sure I could go a day or two without but mostly I was a functioning Alcohol/Addict. It led me down a horrible path. Alcohol impairs your judgement so for me that was the gateway drug that led to other substances which I had to eventually seek treatment to recover. I went two years without a drink straight at one point and then I had a few occasions where I did again but my better half is reminded of where it can lead so I just stay away. It's hard to deal with life when you are used to having a substance and then stop. You never really deal with your true emotions so it's better to stop. otherwise when you get completely sober life will feel like an electric shock. Too much to handle at times so it's hard to get through but you will if you have faith and things get better and better over time. time heals.

I had a few drinks here and there in high school because I got in with the wrong crowd thinking I had good friends and all. My life started to spiral before I knew it. So I figured it was time to cut them outta my life. Today, I just keep it to hi how are ya since that's what Jesus would do. But now, entering college- I've made the decision to step away from alcohol and bad substances for good! I don't need that in my life. I've gone to church my entire life. When i went and got caught up with the wrong crowd I skipped church for them. And now I know where it got me. So now, I rethink where I go and who I hang out with constantly. A lot of times my friends now will ask me if I want to go to an event with them. I will ask all the questions before hand.

I come from a family full for drinkers, though I do my best not to drink, but will only do it occasionally because the last thing I want is to build an tolerance and dependency on alcohol because how bad it can be. But I will admit one positive thing is that even just drinking one glass of an alcoholic beverage, it'll help me sleep at night when I have a hard time falling asleep. Other than that, I'm going to stay from alcohol as much as possible because I don't want to turn into an alcoholic at a young age. I've seen how people handle alcoholic beverages. And to be honest, I don't like drinking.

    You always discuss great topics.
But in my case. I'll only drink at family parties and special occasions. Like on Christmas, New Year's Eve and birthdays. Usually I'll only have one glass. And I'm good for the rest of the evening. The reason why is because I like certain drinks.
    But are you against drinking?
Is having a partner who drinks a nonnegotiable for you?

I am bipolar and I used to abuse alcohol. I started drinking when I was 12 when my father offered it to me for first time. Over the years I would get really depressed and drink heavily. I got on meds for bipolar at 20 years old and could never find the meds to make my mood stable and struggled really bad. Few years ago I was sex trafficked ...I got in a manic episode and was off meds and made a bad decision to meet a guy and ended up being trafficked. I took off running down the street and luckily they had an app on my phone they used to track me and police rescued me and I was flown home. After that I got on drugs. My father wasn’t in the home growing up after being offered alcohol he left and I had a big void there I craved the wrong kind of attention from guys. Well I got sober and gave my life back to Christ I’m celibate now and currently fasting as well. I’m a Behavior Tech and turned my life around. I found meds that got my bipolar more stable but I realized drinking made me more depressed and when I stopped drinking my meds worked better . I drank for over 15 years before I stopped and I don’t even have the desire to drink anymore. I’m trying to live godly and I want to attract that same type of man you give me hope that a man also in celibacy exist .

I don't even remember when I first had a drink of alcohol. But I think that it was maybe as a teenager or younger, I don't know, I think I used to drink to fit in with others. At some point in my life, I decided that I didn't want to do stuff just to have friends. Now I barely even drink alcohol. And I don't need it. I might drink some at a social gathering, but that's if I want to, not to fit in or because someone else is pressuring me to drink.
