    I just thought of a kind of interesting idea for a speedrun. What if you purposely played into lines that you didn't know the theory very well on and then an aspect of the analysis could be about how GMs go about learning new openings. Not sure if there's enough unexplored territory for you in the opening to do a whole series like this, but I thought it might be interesting to try.

    After Nbc3 defending the pinned knight on e4, looks like black had a sick tactic with Bxf2+! If the rook takes then the c3 knight is no longer defended since the e4 knight is pinned. If king takes, Bxe4 is a discovered check.

      You are not counting the material balance after these sacs.

    • @darrellspencer1809

      Might as well sac the rook for something on the g file if it's gonna hang anyway...lol

  • @rgqwerty63
    @rgqwerty63 ปีที่แล้ว

    19:25 b5 was such a good move by white to complicate the game down a tonne of material. If black didn't have those tactics with saccing the queen on f2 he would be in a big trouble because of the pawn on the 7th rank anchoring the rook to a potential c8 invasion and the bishop covering the "luft" square on h7

    • @KnightToRemember

    According to my books, the early insertion by White of the king-knight development 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3 e5 (or 3. ... Nf6 or 3. ... e6) makes this an "Old Sicilian", not an Alapin.

    • @KnightToRemember
      @KnightToRemember ปีที่แล้ว

      Your books are likely old and outdated, that’s a delayed Alapin

  • @svenpoletka5236

  • @KancerKowboy
    @KancerKowboy ปีที่แล้ว

    I now see why you like the Alapin so much. It seems like such a bland opening at first appearance. This is on the level of the King's Gambit and Smith Morra, had no idea it was this tactical.

  • @jamesduggan7200

    If instead of calling it 'speedrun' then it could be "last three rounds with the champ" and this poor guy would be counted out in the second. That was brutal.

    19:10 is taking the rook really the only fighting move? You're already down a knight, does trading your queen for 2 rooks benefit you? It's an imbalance, but a queen offers so much more attacking potential.

    • @KnightToRemember
      @KnightToRemember ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is, being down a piece for nothing is just lost while if you have 2 rooks for a queen imbalances can offer White some very small hope, the computer might not care but this is a very important practical aspect
