this is soo cool to see. i would love to try to make one. my grandfather was amazing at woodworking and made these a lot like 25 yrs ago to put in his frames he made. it kills me that i didnt take care of mine as a kid. id love to have it now. it would be great to be able to make one to have. i remember his being a very fine sand.
its air ;) the air regulates the "time" how long it takes for all the sand drop down... if your low on air the Sand will drop too fast and if your to high on Air the Sand wont drop down... look up for tutorials like "how to adjust air in your sandpicture" :) your welcome
I think it's just excess glue to ensure it's sealed. You could probably cut along the end of the glass to smooth it out. And then the whole peice goes into a frame so when when it is hung up you don't see the glue.
I wonder how fine of granules do I need the sand to be? The thickness between the glass planes?Would be nice to know for optimum effect.I hope to hear from you, as your video inspired my interest...many thanks for any reply.

Does the plexiglass works? After all, it is stronger than glass. If it falls to the ground, it will not break.

The thickness is variable. But it was 1-2mm. Sand can be finer than that.
