Courtney is a helluva pilot. She ALWAYS keeps her speed up when near the ground. Do NOT make steep turns on climb out. She also doesn't fly in extreme wind conditions these planes don't weigh hardly anything they ain't hurricane hunter aircraft, folks! One only flies in "nice" weather.
Obviously don't know the capability's of an MX. The old original way back in the 70's had 4.7g positive and negative. Same as a Cessna 182 !!! Guide wires are stronger than you thought huh?
Great instruction! I learned in a 2 seat Quicksilver. I purchased my first quicksilver in 2008, but had to sell it. Your videos are giving me the itch again!
I love your videos. You give me hope , a 61yr old disabled man ,(bad back but i think i could handle the physical aspect) could actually Do It! Thanks for sharing 🎉
I flew the MX right after Quicksilver introduced them. We would chase sheep, do hammer head stalls and generally have a good time. 19 at the time having a blast finding out how little space could put one of these into. Think I my best was short level spot about 50' long.
Excellent flying. The 360 turn was developed in ww2. Its called a run in break. Pilots did this to prevent enemy fighters getting onto their tail just before landing.
Awesome video Courtney, very insightful and informative. Been a while since I've flown in one of these, but I still remember the amazing feeling of floating in the air and feeling connected with nature in a way haha. Please keep posting these!
@@CourtneyTakesFlight oh come on your advanced landing was so lame. No way you'll ever do a spin recovery are you kidding. lol You'd be dead your first try. by yourself
If you would please, a simple definition of the phrase that kept coming up: "a stabilized approach." Also, what's the glide ratio on the MXL-2, about 8:1 ? So , if you throttle back at about 1.5 miles (at 1,000 ft altitude, and without the slip), you'd expect to hit the threshold? Thanks, love the vids!
The glide ratio/distance varies depending on drag, headwinds and so on. As you start to descent, you're making judgement call right there for the angle/speed you need to hit that touchdown point for that particular landing. With practice you will easily use muscle memory to get the airplane in the right spot/angle/speed. From the FAA: A pilot is flying a stabilized approach when he or she establishes and maintains a constant angle glidepath towards a predetermined point on the landing runway. Every runway is unique, but a commonly referenced optimum glidepath follows the “3:1” principle.
@@CourtneyTakesFlight OMG hello anybody home? The glide ratio of your plane is already predetermined when they built it. Check your manual. Unbelievable
@@commentatronA stabilised approach is to be achieved on final or it isn't stabilised. Correct airspeed, descent rate, flap setting etc are as required. Otherwise it is not stabilised and the standard practice is go around. However in a light aircraft, turning sharply onto the runway is a good skill to perfect as an engine failure solution.
Hi Coutney - Great Vid 👌 I am a wannabee (maybe a Gonnabee) Maybe you can answer me, some questions If I sell my suburban house, I wanna move to the country side and buy a house with some farmland How long / short distance is required to land / take off in a UL One of the grassfields is 880 ft long and 225 ft wide - do you think this could work - for the distances ?
Yes, you will have enough distance, but concern yourself with obstacles beyond your property. Are there tall trees? Powerlines? Buildings? Figure those in your plans.
👍Thank you very much for answering me - it a field strip with threes along one long side, and the end and other longside has a steep slope to the beach - so threes provides the cover for wind, and no further obstacles From my heart I wish you Blues skies and happy landings 💙🤍 @@CourtneyTakesFlight
Yes, You can get off the ground a little over stall or at stall speed which could be less than 50% power. You won't climb out but you can do crow hops all day. Who is she. She needs to take flight training again lol
Hi, I'm from South Africa and always wanted to fly, but having a family and not wanting to put them at the risk of crashing and not having a husband and father, as kept me from following my dream. So while you are single, go for it!
Strctural, cloth, tubing and an engine. It takes very much courage to fly this types of ultralights. Better think very much before flying. Amazing courage. Thank you.
Feel free to comment!

I learned before they made the 2 seater. All your instructor could do was hand you a 2 way radio. Such wimps now days. lol
Ive just found these videos and never heard of ultraligts I'm hooked I'm definitely going to learn to fly !!!!
Good luck!
@CourtneyTakesFlight thank you it looks amazing!!! Plus feeling the air all-round you it's a real flying experience

Hi. Thank you from my heart for this movie. Its very complexe, explicative and concise. My deep respects.

Love the videos. I'm deathly afraid of flying but your videos inspire me to get my own ultralight! Keep them coming, I will conquer this fear.
Good luck! I'm rooting for you!
Do you have a crosswind takeoff and landing video yet?
I love watching your videos. Thank you

Courtney, you sure are an accomplished Pilot! How many hours have you been flying? Your videos are chock full of fun and information!
Thank you. About 350 hours.

best video about ultralight.

Very enjoyable video.

@CourtneyTakesFlight We have 38 acres in the shape of a rectangle. I would like to get my license and a STOL aircraft some day.
Good sound stuff. I'm a bit surprised that you didn't use sideslip to adjust the approach gradient.
I don't recall if I did here, but I generally use the slip every time I come down.
@@CourtneyTakesFlight , could be you had enough drag already :) . Reminds me of flying a Thruster (Aussie UL) in that respect...

Do you put a bag of salt, or mortar mix in the empty seat for Ballance ? ?

I'm not sure it's going to happen. We will see

just nice...well done..

Man I want one so bad! Have to look up laws and regs but I'm not sure where I can use it in my area.
Check to see where student pilots are building up their flight hours.
You can fly an ultralight from most public airports without a control tower.
THANKS

Do they make parachutes or something to help in case you have engine problems
Yes, I have a ballistic parachute. It's mounted on the rear axle. It's white.

Obviously no other traffic around if you are circling at pattern altitude over the end of the active runway.
That is correct. I would not do this if anyone else is in the pattern or active on the ground.
Love the lessons, thanks.
My pleasure!
