These hot deals go very fast and I don't know how much stock is left. I am not related to any vendor that I recommend. These are just hot deals for the week. Vendors change prices and default to other listings. If this happens it's out of my control.

    • @jamesaritchie1

@@ColorMyWorld Being a New Yorker is not an excuse for being rude, especially when you don't know what or who you're talking about. New Yorker or not, rude is still rude, and has nothing to do with honesty.
Contrary to those who use being a New Yorker as an excuse for being rude, a great many people in New York are actually nice and kind. It's only the minority of rude ones who use it as an excuse.
Be honest all you want, but when you complain about how promotional language is used by someone not even born here, it says nothing about them, and everything about you. I know they don't give a rat's behind about what you think, whether it's the language they use, or your opinion about their pencils, which is really not at all well informed, or about your website, though politeness won't let them say so, but this kind of childish rudeness is still what's wrong with this world.. I somehow doubt you've ever been to China from the truly odd things you say about things made there.
I do know these are some of the nicest, kindest, hardest working people anywhere, and they deserve better than to have someone like you making fun of what they wrote. That you're bitter and disillusioned doesn't mean everyone is. That you're rude doesn't mean everyone is, and that you're from New York doesn't help. It just gives all the nice, kind people in Newe York a bad name.
And the way you think you can tell that two brands are really the same brand is the strangest thing of all. It just doesn't work that way. Your microscope needs a new lens, or something. There is no possible way of tell anything with a microscope. I know where most f these companies have their pencils made. I've watched them, and fountain pens, and pocketknives, and a couple of other things, being made.
All companies copy. They just do. This is how business works. In China, this is an art form. But copying, even when the copy is exact except for the color of the barrel, or the words on the barrel, still does not mean two brands are the same one, or even exactly the same thing. Even if the pigment is the same, even if the formula is the same, they still aren't automatically the same brand, or even the same pencil. Even if the packaging is identical except for the brand name, it does not mean it's the same company that used the packaging under a different name. This is sometimes the case, but far more often one has nothing to do with the other.
Copying packaging design is even more common than copying the product.. This, too, is expected, and a company doing better than yours would actually be insulted if you didn't copy them as much as possible. I've seen the heads of companies go crazy when told that no one was copying their packaging, or their product. There is a limit, of course, but that limit can come very close to trademark infringement anywhere else, before a complaint is made. Or before money changes hands, which is often why the copying happened in the first place.
Too, companies do keep old packaging and change the brand name, but companies also sell their designs to other companies, then change their own design. Or sometimes just keep it. No one minds, as long as the brand name is different, and money has changed hands.
I'm not as fond of Markart as you are, not because they're bad pencils, they aren't, but because they test no better than other brands costing a good bit less. In fairness, I use a Caran d'Ache Luminance and Faber[Castell Polychromos for most things, and Prismacolor for the rest, but I also have a fair number of Chinese Brands, so I', no stranger to their overall quality.
Most Chinese pencils, whether colored or graphite, are pretty good, and the difference if often no more than personal preference. Even lightfastness is a nonissue. The Chinese don't even know whether their pencils are or aren't lightfast. They don't test them, partly because of expense, and largely because a very sizable portion of the world just doesn't care on way or the other.
Direct sunlight is what causes almost all fading, and much of the world thinks you have to be an idiot to hang any art in direct sunlight. They proudly point to art that is not lightfast, but that has survived centuries without fading, and question the sanity of demanding lightfastness.
Google will tell you that colored pencils for art didn't come along until well into the twentieth century, but pigment and wax, and oil and pigment, often in pencil form, have been around for millennia. When you follow these millennia old formulas, you'll find yourself holding a colored pencil. "Coloring" is the right term only for those who use coloring books. "Drawing" or "painting" are now accepted terms for those doing original art. This is good. I don't color pictures. I draw/paint original art. Such drawings/paintings have been around for at leas fifteen hundred years without significant fading.
As for real or fake, there is one way, and one way ONLY, to determine whether something is a fake, and that is to ask the company that supposedly made it. Websites and "experts", who are almost always pseudo-experts, are wrong more often than they're right. How do you know someone isn't a real expert? It's simple, they tell you to look at this, look at that, or I did this, and I tested that, etc. Real experts just ask the company.
I don't care which brand of pencil it is, Derwent, Prismacolor, Caran d'Ache, Crayola, or Castle Art, the only possible way to tell whether it's the real thing or a fake is to ask the company. That's it. Period.

    • @jamesaritchie1
      @jamesaritchie1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

"Children's Grade and "Student Grade" really have very little meaning where quali9ty of the pigment and actual usage are concerned. Very often, it's just the type of wood, the type of barrel paint, lightfastness the level of quality control, and the manufacturing location that cause one set to be cheaper than another. This sounds like a lot, but it really isn't much at all with some brands. The Faber-Castell reds are all exceptionally good, right up there close to pro grade. The same is true with Prismacolor. Don't let "For Children" scare you away from a great set of pencils.

No they aren't the same but I like all 3 of the sets. There seems to be two types of pencils coming out in China. The black barrel and the plain no frills ones are cheap and while they will go on vibrant you will see how you layer that they are cheap. The second group is much better. You can instantly feel the higher quality. The St Joy, Deli and Nyoni are in that group. I also like Art n Fly and Marco Renui. I like them , but I am finding out I don’t always know what I will do with my work until afterwards. I did a coloring page of poppies ( I posted it on your Facebook page.) with Prismacolor.I did the page to work on my blending and using multiple colors to create depth. My daughter saw it and wanted it so I sprayed a workable fixative on the green foliage that I wasn’t happy with, colored it some more, sprayed a final fixative on it, had it matted and framed, and it’s on a wall in her house. If I had done the poppies with Arteza I don’t think I would have been able to do all the fixative.Besides I got the 120 set at a great price when they were first being introduced. The Arteza current prices aren’t that much lower than a Prismacolor Premier set of a comparable count. Might as well add a few dollars and get a quality product .

I already knew from the manufacturers that Markart is not the same as Kalour and Soucolor. It's the way the market in China works. I have a video about it too. Markart is 100% not Kalour or Soucolor. Soucolor and Kalour are from the same place. Markart comes from a much better quality line of pencils but all three are copies of other pencils. There are two types of manufacturers in China. One makes the pencils from materials from other manufacturers. This is why all the colors from these brands are so similar. Sometimes they sell whole pencils with different printing. You can get the boxes made to look anyway you want. Same pencils. Many products on Amazon are like that. It's called white labeling. It happens with electronic equiptment all the time. Identical products sold by different people in different packages. Star- Joy comes from Andy's original pencils. There is nothing stopping him from white labeling them under different packaging, but the original will always be Star-Joy.

So, it got me wondering why yours were not and mine were? I've decided to see how that differ based on the type of the paper and I got interesting results. If i do it on the printing paper - none of the colors leaks. On watercolor paper - everything runs, on mixed media paper - everything is dissolving but at a different degree. Colored pencil paper - just a bit. Wondering if anybody else had done something similar and what results they got.

Thank heaven for your microscopic examination of ALL of these pencil sets! Ridic!!! Does Andy have a time estimate on when the Delis will be back in? Because... guess what asinine thing I did? Ended up canceling my order for them. I decided I had spent so much money that week that I sort of "chickened out". And now, for a business purpose rather than simply coloring, I find myself in desperate need of a very wide variety of pencils, including a nice variety of skin tones. Soooo, I guess I'll try to beat the rush for the Delis.... again.🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

These may very well be quality pencils. The reason why they went through all the effort and cost to re-package and re-label is to avoid getting sued. Same thing with electric guitar pedals; Black market Chinese clones that look and sound the same at 1/4 of the price (and yes, some are actually quite good..) . If you manufacture a product in China, expect black market infiltration in your production lines. They're actually quite smart. By buying these pencils, you, your viewers and Amazon are PHYSICALLY stealing from the original manufacturer's factory production line, and slapping a different, cheaper label. When people realise the quality, the pice goes up. This is theft and awesome congats, you have uncovered fraud! If this continues, the original manufacturer will go out of business from lost sales. It really comes down to your conscience. We live in a world of abundance, but we're not willing to pay for it. Thank you for bringing this to my attention as I do not support thieves.

Deli / Nyoni and Star-joy are all from different manufactuers. Deli is the oldest I believe and from what I learned Nyoni copied the Deli pencils. That's why they are so alike. Star-joy is Andy's Manufacturer. He is the CEO there. He just began the Star-joy line but will probably be changing it because he really wants to produce a budget friendly pencil with all the things us colorists like and none of the things that drive us crazy. I am not sure how he is going to package etc. I will be talking to him after the 20th. He is on Vacation now along with his whole country. Something about a Spring festival.

HI , I just watched this - a bit late admittedly - and its a very honest video and i respect your point of view and have made some valid points but have to disagree with you on others. Being a Brit i have grown up with Derwent as a luxury x mas/b'day present. The cheaper options being wh smiths and staedtler. So to hear you disparaging Derwent academy when you don't appear to have used them. i am lucky enough to now own the grown up 72 sets and love them. As well as the 4 sets of 24 drawing graphitint, tinited charcoal and graphite sketching.. i like the weight of them and feel, maybe you got a bad batch.
Now I could state without proof that the "Beloved" Prisma colour" premier are over hyped, over priced, shoddily manufactured - outside of USA - Mexico i believe Now i cannot honestly say .i have used them because of the prohibitive cost of shipping to the UK. Nor am i able to sample the various black barrels i have seen yourself and others use namely, starjoy, nyoni, & markat for the same reasons. i like Faber Castell, so not surer if you have reviewed Goldfaber?
But i will continue to watch your videos and learn from you amongst others colouring techniques. i am by no way a professional artist and maybe i am missing something with the cheaper brands. You probably don't have them where you live but i wonder if you'd be interested in either the wh smiths pencils or a newish budget brand. They are Decotime and come in a triangular barrel. and come in a range of sizes and colours. So any way thanks again for the videos and sorry if im watching them out of order.

Verithins aren't a cheap version of Prisma. Verithins is a line of pencils as old as Prisma themselves. There are two uses but Verithins are always cast aside as the ugly step child. Verithins are their hard wax meant for details. Prismas are for blending but many people only use the Prismas. Good morning! Just caught up with this. I had to pause the video on the list of colours, so I can copy the names out for my set lol. Oh and by the way, the numbers match the Nyoni pencils, starting with the "N" for Nyoni oil. Nyoni watercolour pencil numbering starts with an "S". Go figure. I will have to find your magic app for translating Chinese, as I have ONE Nyoni colour chart with Chinese script that I'd like to translate to English. I emailed the company to ask if they could possibly put out a colour chart in English, haven't heard back. Maybe you could persuade them to do this? Fantastic job on the video. Also I laughed out loud when you got to the fancy box of Deli pencils. I did my research when I bought my 72's, and was torn between the fancy box and the ordinary. They are still around the same price on AliEpress, which does not hide the fact that they are Deli pencils. They actually say they ARE Deli pencils, Summer Palace Series, but only the box has changed. ROTFLMAO. Go girl!

I actually know several fine artists who work in colored pencil who refer to their works as paintings. Lisa at Lachri Fine Art is one.

I think it's because she blends her layers with solvent and a brush. When I use PanPastels and watercolor pencils as underpainting then I don't feel like it's right to call my colored pencil work a drawing either.

Artists who use pastels call it painting too.

Arteza just popped out if no where and became really popular overnight. I thought and hoped they would be good. But it just appears to be another fly by night company wanting to make money quick before they're found out on broken promises.

I never bought anything from them since they were pushing their products so aggressively by sending it out to so many youtubers for free. I just do not like that kind of "marketing". Still glad I did not get those pencils.

I got the 120 arteza pencils for $35 in their back to school sale which I think was a good value.
But at $70-$75 or whatever they are now I’m like “???” Insane.
They’ve definitely pushed their product through influencers depending more on that social networking than letting their products speak for themselves.
I hope they are bought down a notch or two with all these people speaking out now but it doesn’t seem like that will happen either.

Also now that you have them and used them , are they the same as the naomie ones to where not to buy them when they restock? Or do you still suggest getting them per conversation the other day. ?

So markart, nyoni, star-joy, deli and magic nichang are the exact same pencils?

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Markart and Nyoni are the same. The magic Nichang is the same as Nyoni and Star-joy is nothing like those. Made from different stuff. Star-joy is ONLY star-joy. Andy the manufacturer does not sell them under any other name. It is the maker of those pencils start to finish. Unique to only him.
