    I'm 60. Since 40, my eyes have needed less correction. The right has gone from -3.75 to -2.25. Be careful of these surgeons. They almost never tell you that your eyes change constantly throughout life. I wear contacts and reading glasses, and will continue to do so.

      I passed the vision test at the DMV at the age of 53. My distance vision was -1.5 most of my life. I still can see up close except for the smallest things. I’ve tried reading glasses, but +1.0 is still a little strong. I wouldn’t consider lasik because I’d rather wear glasses than risk any type of problem with the outcome. Blindness is a risk.

    I have astigmatism and am near sighted. I would have loved to have lasik when I was younger, but I realized that, after the age of 50, bad eyesight is a blessing. I don’t want to look in the mirror and see every wrinkle or dark spot.

    My brother and I had severe myopia and astigmatism and were dependent on glasses and contacts to function. We were fortunate, in that, we had an aunt that worked for one of the top eye surgeons in the country. She would tell us about this amazing new eye surgery called "LASIK" and the amazing vision corrections happening for people with eyesight as bad as ours. So in 1996, we both had the surgery done (and I have to admit that it was comforting to have our aunt there with us the whole time). I was seeing 20/15 the next morning (I really tried to get 20/10) and enjoyed that sharp vision for many years - until recently. I do need a slight correction now and I do use reading glasses as needed. Having LASIK done was definitely one of the best decisions my brother and I ever made.

    Good luck Megyn with the eye procedure! We’re all rooting for you to have an excellent outcome.
    I’m 53. Back in 1997, I was scheduled for lasik eye surgery at the University of Utah. I was nervous about as the date to have it done approached, but was determined to have it done even though this was the early years of this procedure. The morning of the surgery, I get an early call from the medical place for the eye procedure. They told me my doctor had been in a car wreck on his way to the hospital that morning and broke his hand and that my eye procedure would be postponed. To this day, I have yet to reschedule LASIK for my eyes as I was always a little nervous about it. Seeing what you’re going through makes me want to reconsider having it done again. Thank you and good luck with your recovery.

    I had LASIK at 50 years old, several years ago. My Doc here in Tennessee said I had the worst vision he had seen in a long time, but luckily my eyes were very healthy. He was talking about the things coming in the future for LASIK. I absolutely LOVE that I had this done. I went from having to have special order contacts as well as using readers with them! Now I only use a 1.25 reader is the lighting is low.

I had cataract surgeries in December, the left eye was considered legally blind, but the right eye was on its way, so the doctor told me about a lens that can be inserted in the eye with surgery, it'll correct the vision to where I'll never have to wear glasses again, I have been wearing glasses since the age of five years old and I told the doctor I never want to wear glasses again, it's expensive, but I feel it's worth it. I want to hear a few months from now how her night vision is. I know a number of people that got lasik who don't even like going out at night because of light scattering and streaks. Until they can perfect a man-made accommodating lens, glasses or contacts will be needed. For those that don't know, it's the lens in your eye getting harder with age that messes with your near vision. When young, your eye can squish the lens to allow close focusing. As you age, the lens hardens and can no longer change shape to allow close focus. They can replace a lens (for cataracts usually), but they are for a fixed distance. There are some exotic solutions like lenses with rings of various powers, but they have drawbacks with loss of acuity and poor night vision. A truly soft accommodating lens is the ultimate solution and still evades invention. Such a lens would give you vision like when you were 20 (assuming your vision was good then lol).

    I had PRK done 16 years ago. I had a reaction to the procedure that was beyond painful called something like "ciliary spasms".
    I had to go back and get eye drops that dilated my pupils for like 3 days while my eyes healed, so I couldn't tolerate any light during that time.
    It took about a month for my vision to stabilize and sharpen, but when it did, my vision was amazing.
    I also had such dry eyes I had to carry eye drops for a couple years.
    I still don't need glasses. Despite the pain, it was life changing and I am so glad I did it.

    • @chewy98ta28
      @chewy98ta28 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds rough, glad it turned out OK. A brutal surgery with the scraping from what I remember. The great results they sold the procedure on were likely exaggerated. I had PRK done in 97 in my left eye. I definitely had some dry eye issues like even a little stuck in the morning but nothing major there. My night vision has never been as sharp. I had it done in late July and could spot a flea from across the room within a couple of days. Started the fall semester at college in September sitting near the back of the auditorium and classrooms with no problems but by December I was wearing my glasses with the lens out on my left eye and lens in on my non PRK'd eye. I still sat towards the back of the regular classrooms squinting but didn't want to wear my glasses because they were the military birth control glasses. I've been tempted to do Lasik but drive for a living so not a good thing if it doesn't take well. Pilots do it so maybe. But I got to go a few months without glasses and played some 5 on 5 and it helped there being able to pick up on eye movement and things like that. 25 years later my left eye is about equal to my right eye which is probably 20/150 now from 20/200 left and 20/100 right before getting PRK'd. Possible not getting them both done and my right eye being dominant but only getting the left done might be why I lost vision so quick (which sucked) but I think I'd have been wearing glasses in under a year if it went well anyway and maybe messed up the night vision in the right eye too.

    • @catsaregovernmentspies
      @catsaregovernmentspies 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chewy98ta28 That's interesting that you mentioned military birth control glasses. I was in the Marines when I had PRK. I had it done at a Naval hospital. I was told PRK was preferred over LASIK due to a lower chance of infection.
      My vision has regressed a bit; I went to a LASIK center and was told I am a candidate for a LASIK touch-up. If my vision regress enough, I may get a LASIK touch-up.

    I can tell you lazik surgery is not 100 %.
    Some have permanent double vision, halo's around lights, some never resolve.
    I know of professionals who told me they have had to take the license from those with bad results.
    I wonder if Megyn knows of the Canadian anchor woman who had bad results and wound up committing suicide.
    As for this doctor recomming a permanent insert....if the opthomologist inserts it at the wrong angle you wind up having to wear prismatic lenses.
    I asked my optician, who is wealthy, why he didn't do lazik. He replied "no ones filleting my eyeball"
    In addition the flap they make? You can wind up with scar tissue or granulation which interferes with field of vision. Kathy Griffin, the comedian, had such an issue with her lazik.
    Keep in mind lazik is a cash surgery. They are in it to make $$$$$$!
    If there is an issue they won't answer your calls.

      How they came up with this procedure was by a fluke.

    If I understand correctly from what I read years ago, the eyeball shape is controlled by muscles surrounding them. The problem occurs when the muscles contract too much and can't relax or don't contract enough, determining nearsighted or farsighted. Makes sense when you consider the widespread multiple nutrient deficiency in the population, including magnesium, which is essential for muscle relaxation. Many factors are involved, of course (including people doing things which requires focusing up close - reading, computer work, etc).

    I had LASIK about fifteen years ago, and it was great for distance, but I had to wear readers since. A few years ago my long distance view started going south again and I had to have two pair of glasses: straight readers for computer work and a pair of bifocals for watching TV while still being able to look at my phone. (Surprise! LASIK doesn't last forever!) It was getting really frustrating to have to keep up with two different pairs of glasses all the time. Here in Houston there is a great eye surgeon named Dr. Jeff Whitsett who does a procedure that is, basically, cataract surgery where he removes your old, tired nature lenses from inside your eyes and replaces them with artificial multifocal lense implants that correct near, mid and far ranges...forever. (I believe this is what the doctor in the interview referred to with the whole roll them up and insert them inside your eye thing). The artificial lenses won't get old or tired. I thought LASIK was a miracle when I had it done, but the multifocal lense implants are even better! I am now glasses free, and should be for the rest of my life.

    I was a director of manufacturing for a contact lens company for 24 years. I designed multifocal contact lenses. Mono vision is not the way to go. I also manufactured intraocular inserts. I loved my job. I will say this. Your eyes will continue to change through your life. What I found was that once you start using corrective vision, you'll get used to it and without it you'll have trouble seeing. I'm 64 years old and I don't use corrective vision devices. I can still see just fine. Now when you get to be in your 40's, you'll develop presbyopia. Most people will need correction for near and far and they get prescribed glasses and honestly it makes things worse. I'll make this short. You can have cornea corrections through Lasik surgery. It doesn't mean that you won't need vision correction later.

The best thing you can do is exercise, get some sun. It's natural vitamin D. I've lived in Florida all my life and I go out on my boat or stay by my pool in the sun. That's when I feel the best. Once again as for vision correction, once you start using it, you'll be dependent on it. Your body, your vision will change all your life.

Then, dig on each half a hole good enough to fit your eye and before you go to sleep put them in your eyes and wrap them with a cloth, towel, shawl or anything that you can keep them all night.
