    Europa Universalis IV is a strategy game that starts in the year 1444. In this game you can rule over your own country. You can attack people and annex their lands or decide to keep them alive and put them underneath your rule as a vassal or personal union.

    It's an excellent game imo, but it lacks a few things for it to become a true masterpiece:
    1) A proper population system. "Development" is also being too abstract, and it doesn't make sense that it generally doesn't change much over time.
    2) More dynamic trade. It's currently Euro-centric, although the game is called EU.
    3) More internal management, politics and internal enemies. The game rapidly becomes a map-painter game, but it would be cool to have alternative ways of playing it which feels worthwhile (something like playing tall in the Victoria-games).
    Generally the game has moved closer to being a game, or rather a board game, rather than being something of a historical simulator imo. Like the mission trees railroads the game and makes it easier due to all the massive bonuses you get etc.

      1) I haven't played Victoria or Crusader Kings, so I don't know how population is done there, but in Stellaris I hate it and prefer the development mechanics in EU IV. True, in real life the development of an area grows over time, but so do the requirements and competition, so in comparision with other areas the worth of a province doesn't change without outside interference. Same ingame, if you don't dev the province yourself it will keep having the same value.
      2) True.
      3) So, more buttons to press? ;) But I'm listening, it sounds interesting. Only thing coming into my mind is the fraction system in Stellaris, but that's more or less comparable to the estates, in that some actions make them stronger or weaker and you have to blance them out. Do you have an example for a game doing this good?

      1) I actually don't know either, heh. But I've heard population plays a major role in the Victoria games. I guess it affects both the GDP and your country's politics (who will the population vote for? Which interest groups are backing you? Do the people like the king and think he is legitimate? etc. etc.).
      Coming from the early Total War games, you could adjust the tax rate in provinces for both the working class and the bourgeoisie, which in turn would affect the population and production growth in the province. Building relevant buildings, trading, having a good governor etc. also gave positive growth. Otoh, natural disasters and diseases would kill off many and give negative growth for a while. You could even use agents to spread diseases to other nations.
      The mod MEIOU and Taxes to EU4 has a population system afaik.
      3) I'm not sure how to do it, but I'm sure there are other strategy games out there to draw inspiration from. The Estate system is already in place and can be built upon. CK2 had Laws you could enact. 1444-1821 was full of internal conflicts like civil wars, resistance against new laws and taxes, increased democratization in some places, revolutions, government changes and so on, so I wish that could be more realistically represented in game.

      Ofcourse its eurocentric, trade always went from east to west more than the other way arround. China mainly exported luxuries while not actually needing anything from europe, they got paid in silver and gold. And in the later stages during colonialism and industrialization most raw materials went to europe for manufacturing finished products, it would make no sense for trade to flow anywhere else

      zomg, a game wich is literally called europa universalis (set during the historical period of european domination of the world) feels eurocentric? No way.

    • @dannyp9210
      @dannyp9210 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@lokibau Which I mentioned in my comment. Also, Europe didn't dominate the world until the late part of the game's period. Even in 1821 large parts of Africa, Asia and America were still uncolonized. And it's a sandbox game, where you can change the course of history.

    hey, since you said you recently started out i'm allowing myself a constructive comments on a thing that hindered a bit the video for me.
    the captions in the middle of the screen like that quickly become frustrating, they're too big for me and cover the screen for no particular reason (i'm aware this type of fast subtitles is popular on tiktok but i'm not a fan)
    also the way you covered the price is genuinely awful and god i hope noone actually wondering ends up seeing this video. EU4 can be bought for 5 bucks on keysellers, or for 10 on steam sales. Most dlcs got -50% during sales, and with the subscription you have no reason ever to waste 500€ in the game. There's apparently been in the past some humble bundles with all but most 2 recent dlcs at 20€ total, so you can just run off subscription until one of those happen.
    the main reason one would avoid eu4 is not the economic model, it's the sheer volume of time that this game takes to play. a campaign will take from 10 to 100 hours depending on how far into the campaign you want to go, and having a hundred hours in the game will have you still considered as a beginner.

      the montage in the video is nice tho, just not a fan of subtitles
      i hope you do not take it too negatively, my intent is not to discourage or anything, but on the price part it doesn't feel right to not comment.

      Thank you for your reply, and No I won’t take it as hate, just feedback. On a few things I definitely agree, but the sad truth is that the current price on steam is this way, so that’s what I used.. It could be different on keysellers sites but I personaly do not support these sites. And telling about a humble bundle deal from 1,5 year ago isn’t really relevant.

      From my personal experience I got the DLC from a crack video. However, now that I have money, I'm buying them progressively to support Paradox. But still I do not support the fact that they sell the DLC for 20e. It's too much. 10-15 is ok but 20 it's like a whole game!

    Hey there! The video has a little bit inaccurate information!
    Steam currently offers the "Ultimate Bundle" pack, which is priced at a little over 300$. So the 900$ you put in your video is inaccurate. Buying this will give you access to every major DLC and immersion pack outside of their most recent one in King of Kings. Still a very expensive investment, but subscription prices for EU4 is rising on January 16th by 60% so if you want to own the game, this is the way to do it. Wait for it to be on sale and then buy the ultimate pack.

    Another thing about eu4, i would not be surprised if at this point, most of the player base is playing a pirated version, the game has very few protections and unconvenience if pirated, and can be pirated in a multitude of ways.

    • @LordDucarius
      @LordDucarius 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do not know anyone who pirated it. It is 5 dollars per month for all DLCs and if you plan on playing it longer anyway its worth buying the DLCs in the steam sale. Most people that pirate are young or from "poor" countries, the eu4 playerbase consists mainly of adult europeans and americans that can afford the game tho.
