I love it when you share your grocery hauls because everything you buy is strategic, purposeful, and makes sense. It's very calming to see when you've replenished food and supplies since you live so far from town. Thank you for sharing.😊❤

July and August are the only really hot months. What we really appreciated is natural gas heating and houses that are really insulated for the winter months when it is minus 30 (minus 22 your temp.)

I would be lost without our AC over here on the East Cost. 🇨🇦 After working all day, i appreciate coming home to a cool house and being able to sleep comfortably. Unfortunately, we hover around 85% humidity this time of year, on top of the 90 to 100 degree temps. Enjoy the AC, my friend!

I grew up without AC - my parents practiced “heat management “. At night when temps dropped my mom would open all windows and put fans in several to draw in the cooler air overnight. Then she would get up early in the morning to close all of the windows and curtains and turn on fans in each room. We also had ceiling fans in some rooms. The house generally stayed about 10 degrees cooler than the outdoor temps. While the fans didn’t cool the air inside, having them keep the air circulating really made a difference. Now out on my own, I still do this as my old 1800 farmhouse doesn’t have AC - though I did cave and buy a window unit for my bedroom. People coming to visit always ask me how my AC works and are shocked when I tell them I don’t have AC! 😊

Lived this way my entire life. 8 of us in a poor household it was required. We didn't know air conditioning, tv's. If stuff was not a need, it didn't happen. We were none the wiser. We have that air that goes along with a furnace(I don't remember the name), it is luxury! Hold it, you get buckets of mayonnaise?? I have to find it. Lol

Hi, we live in Finland and here air-source heat pumps are really common. The machine cools in the summer and heats in the winters! They are way more less expensive to run than your normal aircons/heat batteries 😊 deffinetly a thing that you might want to look into. And thank you for the videos, your life looks so fullfilling and real ❤ much prefer that to the "picture perfect"-style that you see so much in this time 😅

For flying bugs Doug and Stacy TH-cam recommended a spray bottle with 100proof alcohol. I didn’t have any so when the short season of deer flies came on I used my homemade cleaning spray bottle of 1/2 white vinegar 1/2 water a bit of Dawn and a pinch of salt. Worked like a charm. No muss no fuss.

I make my own brown sugar and vanilla, but I also buy Mayo... we don't use enough of it so we buy small quantity and deal with preservatives. There are very few items I say that about, but Mayo is one of them. No shame. Everyone has their own preferences and buys convenience items that will benefit them most.

I wish we lived closer because I think teatime is a beautiful thing BUT I like company with tea. I know we would have such great conversations so I’ve gone to watching you during my afternoon down time. Isn’t much and it isn’t everyday but I have tea and let you carry the conversation in your visits with us. Been a long time since I’ve posted but forgive me, my husband is just struggling fighting himself back to health and it takes everything I’ve got in me to keep Jack AND all the chores up. Jack is still with me and I thank God every day he is. Chelsea…your gardens are looking good, I feel like I’ve changed over to a slug farm! I have bought so much beer that the checkout clerks are giving me tips on what’s the best tasting to which I reply that I’m not tasting this but the slugs are drowning in it so whatever I’m buying must taste good to them!!! I just love your grocery hauls. I know I’ve mentioned this before but you bring back a lot of memories of my younger days because we had 12 in our household of which 9 were children and 5 of those were boys. Groceries were a marathon sport in our house buying, taking care of, cooking and baking and then before we knew it the cycle began again. Jacks dad owned a small IGA store so they never had groceries in the house so watching the way I shop and prep and squirrel away things was a real learning curve for him. I’m now deep in canning, freezing and eating all the garden truck I can get my hands on because things aren’t any better here in the states than in your neck of the woods of Canada. I’m not just talking about financially but all I know to do is pray so I just add it to my long conversations with God knowing He can do far more than I can! Chelsea…I can’t ever thank you enough for all the visits but I do appreciate every one of them. I always enjoy hearing about the family, the “Moms” and of course things that Farmer Dan gets involved in. Take care, watch the wildfires and know I’m in the background even if you don’t hear from me!!!:):):)

I live in New England and summers are definitely getting much hotter. I am so greatful for air conditioning. When I was a child we would only have a few hot spells a summer. Now we have extended heat waves, even in June which was always a cool month. I feel for you struggling with the heat. Not what you expect in Canada! Even at our cottage, which always had a great breeze, we now need air conditioning.

Thank you so much for showing how you stock your homestead with store bought in bulk. I have been feeling pressure with the "grow your own" movement and it is just not feasible in most situations. I have a huge garden I am trying to manage which feels like a full time job most days. Also trying to get organic produce locally at a farm stand can be a challenge. Its a decision of trying to buy local and support a farmer vs organic. Trying to feed your family should not be this stressful haha! Love your channel. thanks again.

I hope you love your DeLonghi air conditioner as I have loved mine. I bought mine 11+ yrs ago. The one I have is a dual purpose one as it can heat, dehumidify or be a fan as well. It has been a life saver in both the summer and season…and, especially the winter since the price of heating oil is obscene. Mine was purchased from a discount store as a “returned” item that was tested before going back on shelf for sale. I paid $150 for it then & have been so happy with it. The company at that time had a great customer service department as well. May yours make you as happy as this one has made me 👌.

Amazing what you can spend but again how much you save as well. I'm a big fan of buying in bulk with less trips to grocery store. Thank you for sharing

Because of vinegar content, sealed mayo doesn’t have to be refrigerated. As long as it isn’t an “ingredient” in a product, like a sauce, salad, ect. but stored pure

Thank you for sharing your grocery haul. Look like it's more expensive in Canada or in your area. Here in Texas, not as bad as where you are. Thanks for sharing.😮

I buy a 1lb bag of tomato powder from Azure and use that to make tomato paste. It takes up significantly less room and costs a lot less. I can also mix exactly the amount I need. Just an idea if that's something you hadn't thought about. Just make sure to put a bunch of moisture absorbers in it, because it clumps up something fierce without them, and you end up using a steak knife like an ice pick, lol.

We don’t have azure here, but I’ll keep that in mind for the fall when I can toms.

I don't think our heat wave was as hot as yours, or for sure as long (we got about a 4 day break!) but we are about to heat up again for what looks like a couple of weeks at the least. We will have to be butchering chickens on the 27th and it's supposed to get to 27 that day. Hopefully this darn plucker works well enough that with at least one extra pair of hands we can get done before it gets too hot. I'm also going to try to rig something to hang my shade cloth on for us to work behind, shade makes ALL the difference!

I have that air conditioner. If the humidity goes over 80% the unit starts to retain water instead of expelling through the exhaust hose. The ac unit will turn off and showvHL on the display so you have to empty the water. Pretty frustrating in high humidity environments so turning it on earlier before it gets uncomfortable is a good idea.

That’s how I shopped when the kids were home in the late 90’s and all of 2000’s. No one believes that it’s possible to feed a family for so little. We were spending about $250 a month then.

Now that's a grocery haul. And I cringe when I spend 1K in town on animal feed and groceries...but when one thinks about it, your haul is only about 1650 per month for a family your size- that's cheap compared to some. The number just no doubt hurts! Thanks for sharing.

I buy peanuts and grind my own peanut butter. Runs about $10 for 4 jars of peanut butter. I use an old Champion Juicer.
