The Eb alto clarinet is actually between the A basset clarinet (the mezzo-soprano of the clarinet family) and the F basset horn, which is the tenor of the clarinet family.
Kimberley Wood no? The Eb alto is lower than the basset horn. Just think about descending pitch *A* Ab G F# *F* E *Eb* . Eb is below F, putting the basset horn in between. Additionally, musically the basset horn is just the standard orchestral A clarinet, with a few more notes, nothing more special
Thanks for your message! This one has been sold, but we have another similar instrument available for $4350. The one we have now is from 1965. We also have a more "affordable" pro alto clarinet by G. LeBlanc from the late 1950's for $1950. Both instruments have all new pads and corks and our two year service warranty.
I play a 1960's era Bundy. it works and sounds just fine. Newer, wooden alto clarinets are REALLY expensive (no economies of scale) and i doubt that they sound much better unless one is a pro. Do invest in a good mouthiece.
@@sobbingsop692 No it didnt come before alto sax. The bass clarinet was first and it was literally designed based on the saxophone!! Back then basset clarinets and straight basset horns in F were played. Why do you think the alto clarinet is even in Eb?!
@@mambojazz1 what? The modernized bass clarinet was made by Adolph in 1838. He didn’t develop saxophones until the 1840’s and patented them in 1848 (that’s according to Yamaha). And you can literally tell saxophone was developed after clarinet. For example, instead of a straight bore that doesn’t vary in width, saxophones have a bore that slowly flares out (which is why they have an octave key, not a register key). As for alto clarinet being in Eb, it is newer than basset horns (developed since the 1700’s). There’s apparently a bassoon shaped alto clarinet in the key of Eb that was made in the 1820’s as well- anyway, point of the story, alto clarinets are older than alto saxes-
I picked up a used Bundy EEb contralto clarinet from you guys about 3 years ago. Love the low register woodwind’s. Great instrument
This is an excellent channel and it's criminally undersubscribed.
Thanks, we appreciate your support!
I played that solo on my Bb clarinet, but it actually sounds quite interesting on Eb.. I like it lol
Me: “May I go to the bathroom?”
Teacher: “No, you should’ve gone to the bathroom before class.”
The bathroom before class:
Lacquer on the bell? It's silver plated and it may have some silver plating worn off.
I think the Alto Clarinet is cool ! I have an old Vito. Plays just fine but would like to get a better mouthpiece
A Selmer Paris or Vandoren professional mouthpiece can make a great difference!

this sounds kinda like a bass clarinet?
Are plastic alto clarinets any good?
They get the job done. Just get a really good mouthpiece

What did this sell for ?
A literal wannabe of my child, the alto sax
Considering this came BEFORE alto sax, I doubt that 😶
no
@@sobbingsop692 we'll call the alto sax and improved alto clarinet.
