It does look like a really fun buggy, Tamiya have been quite clever with the way they've managed to integrate other kit parts into the basic Hornet package. Nice little video, some great camera shots!!
The og was my entry into the world of rc. I remember having to build everything, by myself. Took me along time. I still have it but the body snapped on the back end. Any idea if this body would work for a donor?
Well, in its defense, the ground was a bit blown out and we were full throttle almost the entire time!!! :) Better shocks and a more suitable area will really make this buggy shine.
Agreed. Was never a huge fan of the original Grasshopper (never had an OG Hornet), but it was fun to goof around with. This, however, handled great, making it really fun to drive.
It's actually much better than the OG Hornet. But yes, maybe some better shocks, better tires (maybe) and definitely a bit more power and this thing will be a total blast!!!

Thanks, appreciate it. We think this type of re-re on all of the oldies-but-goodies would not be such a bad idea...
Born in 84, The Hornet was my first rc car (hand me down from my uncle when I was 9). Defo worth it in my eyes.
Ok ok, seems everyone is in love with the OG Hornet - we'll see if we can get one for a comparison drive.

Performs like a DT-02 and have the looks of Hornet = win 🙂 nice review 👍
Agreed - and thanks!
Great video. Awesome footage
Thanks!
Love the old school vibe of this buggy 👌
Right? Still the classic feel with WAY more performance!!!
Beauty overview!
Thanks!
Looks great! I kind of miss the clunky rattling sound though seems weird seeing it go without it! 🤣🤣
Agreed. It is much more refined now but has lost a bit of that old school Tamiya-ness that made the OG cars so much fun.
👋😎👍
Still a bit bouncy. A lead wheel weight just inside the hollow on the chassis behind the bumper helps the steering a bit.

@@Competitionx Yeah of course. Wasn’t meaning to sound negative. I’m definitely going to get one. Good vid btw.
No offense taken, just giving some additional info about the car. And thanks for the kind words!
Great stuff looks a winner to me!
Thanks - ya, it really performed much better than expected.
That thing looks
Super fun !
It sure was!
Counting down the days until mine ships out. Hopefully it comes before snow does!
Hoping for you as well. No one wants to play with their Hornet in the snow.
So Awesome ❤
Thanks! It was a fun drive!
Does the battery door fall off immediately too? Mine did on its first run in 1985, never to be found again.
LOL, actually, no. Tamiya did a good job of fixing this issue. It's definitely more of a pain now though... :)
That does look like a lot of fun.
Is the wheel base the same length between this and the original?
The EVO is about 30mm longer, which would also explain the added stability when driving over rough terrain.
@@Competitionx I thought as much , there is that big gap between the chassis and gearbox that looks a bit strange, but I get it
Any of the old ones you loved or had as a kid are usually cheap and worth it. 👍🏻
Agreed. It's rare that those older kits (most, anyway) aren't still available.
Does this come with universal CVDs or standard dog bones? I cant see universals listed as a hop up option
It comes with standard outdrives and dogbones.
@Competitionx Thank you, I assume then the DF02 Universals will fit
Just got mine.I hope you do twelve days of christmas.
Sorry, no 12 Days this year. Unexpected big expense came up, limiting our funds to ship out all the goodies (it's quite expensive to do that).
It looks nice I remember my original cool that they brought it back a little better
Yes. It's SOOOOO much more fun to drive. And we love how they kept it looking somewhat like the original car. Classic.
My first rc, bought with my own cash. I was 11. Put a 360 motor in it.
Nice. Time to upgrade! This is a major improvement over the original buggy.
Tamiya is good. Not super great omg best ever, but overall well worth the asking price.

Unless is old memory’s you want to bring back just buy a Bbx. It looks cool but it’s only going to do so much.
Agreed - BBX is a stellar buggy from Tamiya. This, though, has character :)
You can get two Hornets for the price of one BBX - at least when you compare something, try and be a tad realistic.
No it’s still just a hornet only so much you can do to it.
It's actually much better than the OG Hornet. But yes, maybe some better shocks, better tires (maybe) and definitely a bit more power and this thing will be a total blast!!!
don't worry nobody is going to force you to purchase one
So what, that's not the point. 😅
