Interesting how I've been noticing several fangames pop up recently that very clearly use my old Super Castlevania 3 engine as a base. Not that I'm complaining. Nice to see my groundwork live on.
Wow! Taking this opportunity I would like to say thank you very much for your effort! You are credited in both games as the author of the engine. Speaking of your old projects, there also was Super Vampire Killer, and its latest version was never released. Hope one day we'll be able to play it too.
There seems to be some bugs to work out. If the programmer could fix them, this has the potential to become a great game. UPDATE - I see at least 4 problems: If the game creator could read my comment, please take this as positive feedback. 1. Whip upgrade does not always appear. I have always thought it was silly for the first whip upgrade to appear right away when you respawn. I thought that the player should be forced to pick up some hearts (maybe 10?) before a candle gives the whip upgrade. Having said that, the whip upgrade needs to appear for the game to work. 2. An upgraded chain whip doesn't seem to do more damage than a weaker leather whip. Traditionally, it should do twice as much damage. 3. Score is not kept. Collecting money bags has no purpose. 4. A second whip upgrade should be given for a longer whip. This was traditional in all the old Castlevania games. Having said that, this game looks amazing. The graphics and sound are especially mind blowing. As someone who makes fan-games as a hobbyist, I really need to give props. P.S. How many people worked on this game?
The original is my nostalgic childhood one, and I’ve been an Iron Maiden fan since my teenage years, so when my favorite song in the soundtrack (Wicked Child) had a guitar solo with the The Trooper riff in the middle, I had this stupid smile on my face… such a perfect moment.
YOU DRAIN MY LIFE BUT I'LL TAKE YOUR'S TOO. I'LL GRAB MY OAK STAKE AND I'LL RUN YOU THROUGH. SO YOUR EVIL PLAN'S TO SPREAD ACROSS THE LAND. GUESS AGAIN, IT'S YOUR FINAL STAND.
To be honest, it's a decent remake despite some flaws but what takes it out is the metal playing. It just doesn't fit Castlevania at all, when you picture a Belmont traversing Dracula's castle you'd think something classical or the original music playing over it.
I have to disagree with you there. Ever since I was a kid, in my mind I always heard the Castlevania soundtracks playing in guitar. It's so fitting that I often imagine that's how Kinuyo Yamashita, Kenichi Matsubara, and Hidenori Maezawa heard the songs for the first 3 when composing them.
You can replace the music files if you have the game installed onto your hard drive. I did just that and sometimes I like to change up the music, like playing Simon's theme in the clocktower, for instance.
Actually the best Heavy Metal had Classical element's in it. I've heard it in early Priest (i.e. 70's Priest, which was actually the better era) and early Dickinson era Maiden, although bits of Classical did pop up on the first two albums.
Ha castlevania 1 has been remade so many times officially(super castlevania 4,castlevania chronicles, haunted castle) and now we have this unofficial remake, looks really nice.
The boss list is as follows: 1. Giant Vampire Bat. 2. Queen Medusa. 3. Twin Mummies. 4. Frankenstein & Igor. 5. Death (The Grim Reaper). Final Boss: Count Dracula & His Monster. Note: The Giant Vampire Bat makes another appearance at the beginning of the final stage.
I wanted to play this through but it has some really bad issues like collision detection in general, like the spike platforms in stage 2 hit me when I wasn't even touching them and oftentimes started pulling me upward when i was just next to them, but jumping on top of them just injured me. I was also able to kill Medusa by just hitting empty space below her. Then I accidentally started a new game and it erased my save game.
Amazing game! Some critiques I would give are: -slightly speed up the walking -slightly blur the back ground or darken it to help the foreground standout -maybe lower music volume and add some ambient sounds?
I agree, those are some legit critiques and not some asshole trashing this game for whatever reason other than hating it. The music kicks ass, but I wish it had a volume feature in options to adjust it to your liking and the other two really would beneficial.
