  • The administrative capital of South Africa, Pretoria, or the 'Jacaranda City' is best known for its annual display of purple flowers in October. Located in the northern part of Gauteng, Pretoria is the historic centre of government in the former ZAR. Pretoria is also known as Tshwane, named after the Tswana/Ndebele Chief Tshwane.
Whenever we travel, it's always about the people we meet and here, in Pretoria, it was just that. We connected with a homeschooling family and the kids had such a blast!
During our visit we stayed at the Ngata Lodge in the Dinokeng Game Reserve which is located inside the city limits.
We visited the city center where we learned about Paul Kruger also toured the original Johannesburg gold mines and world famous Sterkfontein Caves.

The Union Buildings house the offices of the President of South Africa. Parliament is strictly in Cape Town.

It's hard to be far away from family. It's a shame you had to move due to high crime. Safety is something we take for granted in other countries.

"Raadsaal" at 11:20 translates to "Council Hall" which was the parliament building of Paul Kruger's ZAR (South African Republic) completed in 1890.

The Raadsaal was built by the Boers. It was the capitol building for the South African Republic. Paul Kruger was the president of the republic. The South African Republic became part of the Union of South Africa at the end of the Anglo/Boer War in 1902. The building is very beautiful.

@@GrowingUpWithoutBorders Stay with meat, Its healthy and your body requires the vitamines and proteïnes you get from meet. If you go vegetarian, you will have to supplement your diet with pills because there is no other way to get these vitamines and proteïnes you get from meat! Meat cooked correctly or barbecued is very tasty in any way. So, stick with meat!!

The union building is not parliament, parliament is in Cape town. The Union building is equivalent to what you will call the white house in the US.

LOL Just imagine a South African family visiting a place in Canada where there is a statue of Sir John A MacDonald. Mother to children: "Girls, what have we learned about John A MacDonald? Girls' response: "He was an alcoholic and he married his cousin." For those not familiar with Canadian history, Sir John A MacDonald was probably the dominant figure in the forming of the Canadian Confederation.
