May be I'm late to the party, I listened the podcast and can say that Mr. Sivanandhan is a delight to listen, he seems blunt, and navigate conversation with honesty, and definitely not demeaning to the havaldar. Look, if your son is a underworld mafia don who kills people on regular basis and do endless number of crimes, people can't say good about you. Same here. The reputation of the father is the responsibility of the child; people will not appreciate the father if the child turns to be a monster, may be the father is not directly responsible for what his son turns out in life, but that's how world works. As a daughter of a person in this service - It was highly demeaning of him to talk about hawaldar as a simple guy who has done nothing. A leader is nothing without a force behind it. I have seen my mother working so fucking hard and has been awarded for her service. be it in pandemic or any another provided work. I was quite interested in this podcast but Thank god! his one line said it all. PS-This is just not coz my fam is into this but for every person who work as a part of "lower" level - be it anyone educated- your quality defines how much you gained from that education. I hate people who judge a person by seeing their shoes- You must see him as a person and being grateful is must .
I agree with you that it sounds offensive but he was talking in the context of Dawood Ibrahim as to why he became a master mind criminal. His background had to play a large role in making him what he is today. His father's job may have triggered him to go on a path of crime for getting easy wealth, power and fame. He must have been disillusioned by a simple grey collared job that his father did by serving in the police as a hawaldar. He chose an easier way out and that too a very negative one. If you have watched the movie "Once upon a time in Mumbai", you would know what i am trying to say eventhough just like every other Bollywood movie is about the glorification of crime lords and mafias, this movie also glorified Dawood Ibrahim which is quite an irony.
