His weird enough to like something like that. Others... you can clearly see they are acting the jolly part, except maybe Colin, Emily, No computer and Old Tony. Rest seemed to be disappointed and poorly acting over their presents.

As a man I can assure you that most men (at least most that I know) are just as happy seeing a cute girl in comfortable clothing as we are seeing a cute girl in a dress. Wear whatever you want to wear (within reason).
As many others before me, I too came from Colin's channel. What a great community, I never know all this existed.. There's hope for the future with so many guys and girls creating amazing stuff..
In addition to the tie weight and drag pulling the weights together, there's also bounce. If the weights pull the string between them straight, they bounce back. So the optimal solution would be to first use heavier weights. This increases mortality a lot, but when has that ever stopped fashion. Second, they should start close together and be aimed so, that almost but not quite pull the string straight before they start moving closer together because of tie pull. That would maximize the usable distance range. Of course, because of the much higher mortality, you don't get to try so often, so that's a minus.
