- U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt awards George M. Cohan with the Congressional Medal of Honor, as he accepts it. And I love the part in which the troops sang his song “Over There”. He joins along with everyone else in the march. The most famous song that America had ever had since the First World War. Thanks to George M. Cohan.
Remember watching this movie with my Dad back in the day - on several occasions! I returned the favor and turned my daughter on to as well. I'll turn 62 this year and if this happens to be on TV, it's a remote drop for me!! 🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
So you love this very much, do you?
The tap dance on the stairs was done ad-lib by Cagney. This movie still inspires me.
One of great scenes of many.
The dance on the stairs is an all time favorite of mine
I read that after he did that, the director asked him, " are you nuts? You could have broken your neck!" To which Cagney replied, "Sorry, I don't do stunt work."
He was an excellent hoofer!
Our country needs songs like that now; so the American spirit can come alive again. ❤
Those songs still exist and are very popular. They have as much meaning now, as they did back then! You need to just start singing! Appreciate all that's been given to us by our country's ancestors. It also reminds us what we stand to lose if we don't continue to fight for liberty and justice for all!
A really excellent vocal impersonation of FDR... outstanding.
4 years ago! I looked it up. A Canadian actor Jack Young.
stunning inspiring film making reflecting its time. Tap dancing down white house stairs still brings me to tears since the first time I saw this when a young adolescent
This clip and entire movie is the true spirit of the United States, it is from a simpler time where America was celebrated by most of its citizens and proudly acknowledged. Today we are a ghost of a country compared to what this movie portrayed. Cohan and the Americans of WWI and WWII would be embarrassed with what we have become. I have tears in my eyes watching this and I truly hope America one day will return to this old time spirit. However I feel this won't ever be possible again the more time goes on........
So you really love this movie, do ya?
Yes! Truly a classic!
I love too get goosebumps watching this movie! Our country is full of turncoats with no patriotism
Speaking as an Englishman, I agree with every word. The pride and patriotism shown in these wonderful films is leaking away to be replaced by laziness and cynicism. It's the same over here in the UK.
I am having a hard time responding to your comment. Seriously, I can't see my screen properly for my tears.
Take a look at todays movies where they show ONLY SOME DANCE AND DRAMA AND SO HOT SCENES but take a look at the movies in the past they were inspiring and so amazing
Nobody does it better.
Fucking Phenomenal!!
He was a true patriot 🎉
When Hollywood has Class
God Bless America and Her Patriots who LOVE Her 💕 LET FREEDOM FOREVER RING
Sounds to me you love this musical a lot.
I love Cagney in these roles.
The tears in his eyes are so genuine.
Yeah. That’s what I thought when I looked up closer. He did a grand job as he must’ve been so honoured.
Especially moving today, remembrance sunday...
This movie should be shown every memorial day.
Back where I come from, we usually see this on Independence Day every year. Best musical ever.
Back when Hollywood was patriotic and James Cagney could do it all sing dance act ,,a producer, farmer, businessman..faithful husband and father..a legit tough guy to..
god protect our country in this trying time and keep the peace we are use to🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💪
Oh, that Americans from all over the US could sing this song today. It would unite the country again.
Amazing movie, this is what America used to be.
Yeah. Now today, both Canada and USA have gone sideways.
Oh, how I miss old Hollywood! AND OH HOW I MISS GOOD OLD-FASHIONED PATRIOTISM!!!
This movie came out during World War 2, and the song is from World War 1. America was reluctant to enter the Second World War because of what World War 1 was. It was the Great War. The War to End All Wars. But it didn’t. The America First crowd with Charles Lindbergh was trying to keep America isolationist. But after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the illusion of isolationism seemingly disappeared. Even Lindbergh who had praised the Nazis was ready to fight for America.
So understand, America seems more divided than ever. It isn’t. And when that side of America shows up, it will be just as patriotic as it was then.
Gagney was genius .
Over There or even America the Beautiful should have been the official national anthem.
WOW!
Can you imaging our troops and our people singing this song the next overseas deployment?
I sure hope so. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
It's the "Medal of Honor" ... not the "Congressional" MOH ... try to at least get it right ??? I mean ... I love the movie, but it's still made in clueless Hollywood ...
@@reinharthertz2526 It is the Congressional Medal of Honor. MOH for short. They couldn’t show the real ones back in those days of black and white Hollywood movies.
It wasn't the real Medal of Honor, only members of the military in combat. He did receive a gold medal from congress.
@@johnbertrand7185 It is what is really.
