      I'm excited to see more iterations on this design, just ordered my own and excited waiting for it to get to me here in Canada, definitely want to try making some clip-on antennas (and a small radio telescope) to hear what this can pick up, I do astrophotography and planetary imaging as a hobby and would love to have the EMF sounds to go with it, especially if I could get it to pick up Jupiter's radio eminations

    On my ETHER 2 the high freq wheel does something only on the last 10% of the potentiometer no matter where I am. Other 90% is silence or with the body as antenna very loud clicks.

      In theory, yes, in practice this does add some extra options for manipulating the sounds and is rather fun to just wander around with, the lack of tuning circuits also means it's picking up anything and everything in its range over a much wider set of frequencies so you can hear some weird harmonies too, certainly don't regret getting mine, considering saving up for one of Soma's synths now too

    • @DECIMA1
      @DECIMA1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have and what I can tell is ever area has it's own electromagnetic "sound", it isn't quite as interesting as a busy city through. In bigger cities you get radio waves and crazy sounds from electrical mechanism that you do not quite get in rural places :P

    • @UNSCPILOT
      @UNSCPILOT 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deffinitly good to have some wires with the little alligator clips on them so you can clip onto stuff like fencing (not electric fencing though you'll fry it and your recorder and your headphones and probably you) while wandering in more rural areas, but yeah, cities have way more, much wilder noises

    Mhm don't know if this is for me (I have an Ether V1, and am quite happy with it already). Perhaps this is more aimed at people who were on the fence about the V1, wishing it was a bit more capable/flexible?
    Anyway, I'm glad that Vlad developed the concept, this does feel more refined and evolved. As if we're moving towards an even more complex, more capable device haha. Cool, cool.

    🏠 I testify that it is very sensitive, even a simple 24V "Christmas light controller" can be "noisy" with this! 👍 I only tested it in my room and around in my house, yet. And I absolutely prove the effect of "big metal objects": I touched it to the heating pipe in my room and I hear an AM station pretty good, too! 👍
    I tested it in my garden (around the house): I can hear what's in the wall (or maybe at the opposite side, too), not much in the air right now at farther away from the house, but when both metal tips touching the metal gutter, I can listen to an AM station which is surprisingly loud and clear! And when I touched both metal tips to the garage door handle (on non metal door!), that AM station comes again pretty clearly but a bit quieter! 😲 So, pretty high and unbeatable sensitivity! 👍
    🏢 I tested it in town, too: so many interesting signals can be found, especially in the subway! 👍 The best results can come while slowly walking, because any bus's system can create too much noise signal, so Ether can't pick up the surrounding town's atmosphere! 😉
    My rating of Ether: ✩✩✩✩✩!

    Hi,
    I wanted to ask, what is the main difference between ETHER V2 and Pick-Up Coil Microphone when detecting EM sounds? I know that ETHER V2 is more omni-directonal compared to Pick-Up Coil Microphone. Also about sensitivity is ETHER V2 better, but what are other points which make ETHER V2 greater?

      V2 gives more possibilities to be tuned on the most interesting part of the sound as well as to get more diverse sound. In compare with a simple inductive coil mic it gives much bigger variety of sound and sensitivity
