Btw, jesus christ the synth in this song, it gives me *life* bro. One of the best openings I've ever heard, and is definitely in my top 10. Maybe even top 5.

Nearly a year late, but I think most of the hate comes form episode 1 which like... yeah... I don’t really know though since I haven’t seen much hate except for “it’s meh” which isn’t really hate

The manga has different pacing since it's a manga. The show can't do like 6 episodes of Yuri going up stairs with the 7th episode being her getting to the top of the stairs. They had to condense a little so that things sort of happen in real time, I think that's what people don't get.
The manga was better. Some minor character changes (Kuon’s intelligence/refinement was reduced, Kusakabe made annoying with lots of dialogue she had no analogue for in the manga), some parts cut likely due to budget/timing or because on TV(like middle schoolers turning on each other), but overall I enjoyed it thoroughly. My biggest gripe is it largely cut inner monologues from masks that humanized them or explained them better and fights lost the parts where say Yuri was losing like when Swimmer-Mask was winning and she used a dirty trick to win. It’s an adaptation not a panel for panel translation of medium; they always change some stuff. Highly recommend ya watch it then read the manga for the full story.
Being an adaptation does not mean that there have to be changes. I clarify you from the beginning. If they keep the essence, perfect. But this does not seem to be the case from what you are saying.

Things change due to a number of reasons such as audience (TV has a wider one with higher sensitivities for instance) and wanting to fit it nicely in a 12 episode run. im currently reading the manga and the anime leaves out a lot of world building stuff, has yuri automatically know the rules of the world rather than her coming to that conclusion herself, and it’s just extremely rushed
freaking love this song. seeing ity with the opening animation is so nostalgic i dont know why but for whatever reason this song and the opening animation brings me back to the mid 2000s when i was a young elementary school kid

I highly recommend anyone that loves this show that you read the Manga Tenkuu Shinpan as it further explains some of the major parts of the show. I really wish more studios would spend more time showcasing EVERYTHING the art form has to portray but sadly budget cuts are almost everywhere in anime nowadays and this show got the same treatment as Deadman Wonderland. This Intro GOES THE FUCK IN and It's what I think of while reading the Manga. I hope this helps someone love the manga too and there's a sequel series that's still being written so check that out too
