I love Sleeping Beauty! I got so excited when Disneyana got sleeping beauty merchandise! Most merchandise I’ve seen in the for any other movie or character that I like is pretty cheap looking. But I love the sophistication of the sleeping beauty merchandise so I did actually get the tapestry as it was reasonably priced and it’s beautiful.
The fairies conveniently aid Philip by jacking up his shield and sword with virtues of truth and courage or bravery (can’t remember exactly). Just in nick of time for final battle with Mal. Mal had her good points too. She wasn’t invited to the christening party so she goes on a revenge tear. Tale as old as time. ;)
The fabulous Eleanor Audley voiced Maleficent. Also lent voice to Lady Tremaine. Sleeping Beauty is/was an incredibly influential Disney movie. The stylized artwork by Eyvind Earle reflected in dl Paris castle and grounds; also the newer dvc tower at dland hotel Anaheim. I love Eleanor’s laugh as Maleficent when she realizes her knaves were on a fool’s mission.
@ Leota Toombs the actress for body/face. Audley for voice. Her career swan song. One of Leota’s descendants or relatives has something to do with Disney also. Toombs: an apropos name! ;)
@38:35 If you pay attention, Merryweather seems to know how to cook and sew because of both her surprise at the others doing this when she expected to and she corrects Fauna's attempt at cooking at one point. I'd be salty too if I'd been doing all the work for 16 years and my "sisters" come in at the end and act like they know how to do it better.
@30:51 Once Upon a Dream is also part of Tchaikovsky's score along with the "background" music. Disney just added the words. As a kid, when I saw the ballet, I couldn't understand why they weren't singing to that melody, LOL.
I love what I call the transfer music (the background connection music) of both sleeping beauty and nutcracker. Tchaikovsky a genius for sure. At the ballet you could always stand up and sing. ;)
100 years of sleep comes from the Brothers Grimm version. They didn't meet until Rose had slept the hundred years and the prince was adventuring and came across the castle encircled in thorns. In the hundred years many princes died trapped in the thorns trying to get to her.
Enjoying this program. Timely, and thanks so much. Great convo. Do not fret over possible plot point mishaps. They add and sustain the drama. My bil often rails at the tv series he finds inconsistent with “normalcy” and common sense. But without them there would be much less interest in ultimate resolution. A snooze fest. That you ferreted out the inconsistencies leads me to believe the story caught your attention and intrigue. Storytelling is heart of Disney magic. Again, thanks. Love the light hearted approach.
Rewatching for this, I realized Prince Stephan's horse looks to be the pattern - especially in the shape of his face and his personality - seems to be the pattern for Max in Tangled, so there is another connection.
So adorable the super chat to call Stephanie a princess!

I’ll have to have a look see. Thanks for the info.

Also Madame Leota's voice, wasn't she?
@ yes! Thank you. That wonderful New Jersey accent of hers.

@chrishintz1077 I do so love the Haubted Mansion lore, both the imagineers and artists involved and the backstory and history.
@ most definitely. Dallin’s TH-cam channel (Offhand Disney) can be amusing and informative. He’s a big HM fan.

Scoop: Disney is currently filming live action original Moana for release in 2026.
