Hi Keith 👋 I love watching your videos❤ I was confused which HDMI Cable should I used for my Atem Mini Pro. Last month I brought 3 Hdmi Cable which is 30 Meters each which doesn't work for my Canon XA11 Camcorder for that I used Converter Hdmi to Mini Hdmi so can you please make a video about hdmi for long range I meant like long distance especially for Hdmi Mini 😊 Thank You 🙏
HDMI cables over 12-15 or more feet especially cheap ones can be spotty at best and may not work. So for long runs over 12 feet I recommend converting to SDI then back again. I have had many 12 foot cables that have worked over the years but they were high end. But I never have I tried anything longer. They make long distance HDMI cables but they use Ethernet built in and I have seen some pros and cons reviews on those and I have not tried them. My studio set up has every camera and monitor within 10 ft for my longest run. Glad you enjoy the videos. I will do my best to cover this in a video but I am in no way an expert! The people I listen to online have always said stay away from anything longer than 15feet in HDMI and some even over 12ft length so it comes down to the signal. Some of the newer cameras have higher resolution outputs and that could be the issue. What is the Output resolution set on your camera? 1080 or 4K? Remember the ATEM has convertors built in so if you send 4K it will divert it to 1080P 60 or lower if you set the ATEM to lower. I hope I have helped.
Just an observation, I notice in the video (16.10), on your mini extreme iso , in inputs 5&6 you have a lap top and a PC. I understand inputs 1&2 are optimised to accept computer signals. Always enjoy you videos. Best regards.
Thanks, yes I know that is true. In a ATEM Mini Pro and ISO channel 1 and in the Extremes and Extreme ISO 1 & 2 have a faster ports for gamers to reduce latency. If I was doing gaming via an x-box or a play station or PC I would use those but for just demos of my computer screen it has not mattered. That is a great observation! I have those two ports so one can display chat through OBS (PC) and the other my Laptop for software Demos.. I have never had any issues. I would much rather have the low latency on my two main cameras to lower lip sync issues do to my audio coming in from my RodeCaster Pro II. Thanks for watching! I appreciate the feedback.
Neither model has a play back feature. You could use a HyperDeck to Record to via one of the SDI outs and then route it back via one of your SDI inputs to play back. It’s still not a viable fast instant replay device. You also have built into the new 9.5 firmware a record to the cloud feature available now in the output folder. That can be used with DaVinci Resolve For replay back and they even added replay features and new hardware like the Media Player 10g thunderbolt device for instant replay options. Blackmagic also has a new replay hardware device for controlling Resolve. No easy ATEM Mini or Extreme built in replay feature. Yet, these new options with new devices get’s us closer. The good news is the EXTREME SDI model has 4 SDI outs so having two HyperDecks hooked up them router back you could create a HyperDecks System using Macros. Check out the latest major release video on Blackmagic Designs Web page where Grant Demos these new features of the Media Player 10 G and Resolve.
So if I am using the ATEM Mini, because all graphics are coming from the single media player source, is there any way to smoothly transition from say a "CAM 1 w/lower third" to a "full screen graphic", maybe with some kind of macro command? Right now the way I am doing it is "fade out lower-third --> change MP1 source --> fade in new MP1 source" I'd like to be able to fade directly into the next MP1 source.. Also how does it work with having the 2 Media Players? Say I had MP2 set as a downstream key with lower-third , and MP1 as a full screen graphic. Would MP1 always be 'on top' of the other?
You can use a macro to change from one mp1 graphic but not be a smooth transitions. With the Extreme having two media players you can transition from one player to the other smoothly. With a macro you can switch graphics as well and smoothly go from still to still or lower thirds to another graphic. I love having the two Media players.
Very well delivered Keith!
Thanks Tony!
Hi Keith: Very interesting tutorial. Your instructional skills keep getting better and better. Best regards. Hank
Thanks Hank!

Hi Keith, I have Atem SDI extreme ISO, if I record with it to a USB hard drive, can I play it back with the extreme? Ken
