There is a connection between The Neo Marxist Frankfurt School and Maoism in the use of the "Struggle Session" or the shaming and terrifying of the none adherents of the doctrine into inertia.
The obvious difference though is that many Academics in the West against this elimination of culture display a moral cowardice based primarily upon the fear of reduced income and status.
In Mao's China and Pol Pot's Cambodia they died.

Back in the late 60's and early 70's there was a spoof journal called the "Worm Runners Digest" where legit academics would write up silly tongue in cheek "scientific" experimental psychological research articles such as "Learned Helplessness in Pet Rocks", or "Modifying Leaf Dropping Behavior in Trees". These articles were hilarious and everyone recognized they were satire and in jest. Now we discover they were, in a manner, prescient of current academic insanity.

This just reminds me of modern art. Prankers used to get kids and animals to scribble on a canvas and so-called art critics would stand their rubbing their goatee bearded chins calling it a work of genius. When informed it was just childish daubs they still maintained it had artistic merit. These feminist nutters would probably say that being pranked demonstrated the validity of their whole argument and that they would continue to fight the good fight despite there being no fight to begin with.

We also now understand that super volcano chains are mostly caused by plate tectonic movement over hot spots caused by the rising and cooling of magma between the mantle and the core.

In some fields professors or researchers (usually with tenure) would put out bunk papers specifically to attract the attention of other researchers to assault the papers weaknesses. 🤷 I’m in my 50s and I really rather assumed that the same sort of thing was still happening. 😳 This suggests not? Oddly, professors approaching retirement used the mechanism to access wether they should retire. If no one bothered to contest complete nonsense it meant that no one was reading the paper or the credibility of the researcher had declined to the point where they were no longer relevant.

This is about exposing woke 'science' journals. They published a bunch of bogus 'research' to see if the journals would accept it, however ridiculous it was. And lo and behold, the journals just published it because it fit their agenda.
Her point is that those journals publish highly biased material at the very least and complete bs at it's worst.
And instead of getting recognition for exposing this, her colleague got reprimanded for 'fake data'. Yes off course the data was fake, the whole point was to prove that this journal would publish such nonsense.

Needless to say, the sociologists attacked him rather than addressing the intellectual bankruptcy he exposed.

She did good work but she didn't expose anything more than the one poor quality journal that published the 'study' without criticizing or actually challenging it. What she did has no bearing on academia overall. Don't try and lump everything you don't understand in with the worst examples of it, literally anything can be painted negatively with such simple minded generalizations. You're no better than the fools that didn't look critically at the 'study' by applying generalizations so broadly.

The trouble with academia is mainly that academics silo their students and phd candidates into their way of thinking, so research gets published with certain stints on it which permeate the field; but secondly, academia is oversubscribed with students who all want to make their own mark on academia, the down side is that there are increasingly outlandish studies and relationships being developed to give these students an edge. Academia has become a mockery of its original purpose.
